Do you fear running out of GREAT anime to watch?

It may sound odd, but sometimes I worry when I watch a great anime. I worry because once I'm done watching it, it's over. I've seen it already. I enjoy rewatching anime but it'll never have that same initial impact.

Since I, for the most part, only watched a lot of the long running shounen until I joined MAL, there was a vast sea of great, well known anime I hadn't seen continuously rising over the years. What happens when that sea runs dry though?

Obviously more great anime will continue to air as time goes on but most of us anime viewers consume this stuff at a rate that the great writers of the world simply can't keep up with. At some point I'm going to catch up and run out of great anime to see until a new one airs. I'm going to run out of the Triguns, Cowboy Bebops, and FMABs of the world. There's a crazy amount of good anime out there, I can always find a 7 or 8 to have some fun with, but the 9s and 10s that I truly adore are limited.

It's a wonderful feeling knowing that there are these great and acclaimed anime that I haven't seen and can binge watch all the way through. I don't want that to end lol

That's my point. I love that I haven't. There's tons of stuff for me to see so I don't have to wait for something new to come out to hold my interest. But what happens once I've seen all these great and classic anime?

If I run out of good anime to watch then I still have my weeb games. However I feel I have a lot to watch yet and I can always re-watch shows. I admit that I have feared that too, though.

Editing again: A lot of my PTW list is old anime and I fear that I wont like them not because they are old but because many shows I have watched might have done what they did a lot better.

I do not have such fears. I have plenty of anime in my ptw list and it's only growing larger. Sure, some of the anime on there are harems or other not-so-great anime, but I'm still not running out of good anime to watch. I watch a lot of less known anime, so I usually don't even know if it's good until I watch it. I actually have the opposite problem where there's a lot of great anime that I want to watch but I just don't have the time for. I've been putting off anime like FMAB and HxH due to their length even though they look really good.

I'm in the same boat as you...finished most of the 9-10 shows and now just waiting every new season hoping for something at least an 8 in my book. I also never rewatch shows so yea: Just recently started devouring Netflix shows instead and while there are some good ones they're just not as enjoyable.

(also, I notice you are planning to watch fate zero --> go do that, hope is not lost yet:D)

There are people that have been watching anime longer than MAL has existed. I think you'll be fine regarding the amount of anime being produced worth watching. Anime will of course change as the time goes on. Running out of anime is out of the question unless somehow a catastrophe occurs in Japan's anime industry.

I can always re watch the anime I love while I wait for more masterpieces to pop out.

I do think it will get boring if I ever watch enough anime to actually have a chance of running out, but I have a very long time to get there.

No
There are nigh 10000 anime out there, pretty sure I won't run out sooner or later.
Even if you apply the Sturgeon's Law (which is a pretty shit "law"), that's still nigh 1000 anime.

Yes an No.
No because, I currently have about 200 anime on my PTW list, and with the current pace I'm watching anime (maybe 50 anime per year,or even less) I would need 4-5 years to finish it. And since every season we get at least 30 new shows, that means 120 new anime per year, multiple that and you get that in 4-5 years there will be 480-600 new anime produced. That's a lot of shows.

And as for running out of 9s and 10s , I don't really have that problem either, since don't always try to only watch the best of the best and soI have a bunch of potential 9s and 10s to watch.

Now for the reason I sometimes am afraid I will run out of anime

Not really. I have 482 shows (some are OVAs and movies of course) on my plan to watch list, and most of them I added because I think I'll enjoy them (others I added simply because they're popular and I want to get around to watching them eventually, or I know that I probably won't enjoy them per se, but I'm curious regardless).

I think I've watched more good anime than bad overall, but there's still been a lot of disappointing series I've watched. I don't think it's humanely possible for me to actually watch everything on my PTW in my lifetime, but I think I've enough on there to keep my entertained until I kick the bucket, or I simply get bored of anime. I'm sure there's enough "great" anime on my list that I'll get around to watching at some point, so I'm not worried about running out of good shows any time soon.

Well, there will be an end to the production of great anime, to be sure, but it will be later than my life's end at the earliest, which is the reason why I am much more afraid of death.

Personally, no. It seems most of you are a decade younger than I am, and though I wouldn't say I'm necessarily old, my priorities have changed quite significantly and am much busier with other things that leaves me far less time in my day, such as work and other hobbies. I do however, still very much enjoy watching anime and still have a list of many acclaimed shows that I've yet to come around to watching, on top of the constant stream of shows airing every season.

Not to mention revisiting anime you thought were great when you are 13 may turn out to be terrible when you watch them years later because of the difference in experience, development of better taste and the maturity to understand deeper themes and motifs behind the storytelling.

I have this fear!!! If you think about it, the days of DBZ, death note, code geass, etc. The more recent ones are kinda good, but you know.... it's not the same. The only upcoming anime I'm dying to see are sequels.

Rewatching the best anime works for only some anime, but those with plot twists like Death note lose that "special feeling" when you rewatch it :(
I was here? Prove it.

I would probably never run out of anime to watch.
More like I might not be able to find someway to access older series.

Recent works have been good, but I also know I missed out one alot of good anime from the 90's and 80's. That will be harder to find.

Generally there are still more and more great anime being made, however if your taste is skewed and your preference of genre is limited. your going to be missing out, not because there is a lack of great anime, but because you have limited yourself to narrow selection.

Characters are boring? What? Which one, exactly? None of the main character is boring.
The story may seem random, but there's more than meets the eye, I recommend rewatching it.
