Production I.G. and their sports shounen. This may turn out to be one of THE anime of the year. I wasn't expecting anything from it, yet look at me now, cannot wait for the next episode already!

Amazing first episode. OMG I loved it! I am so hyped now! I really can't wait until the next episode. The animation and transitions were very well done. The music is also catchy and feels inspiring. I like the main character, hes such a dedicated, passionate player. This will definitely turn into one of my favorite sports anime if they keep it up. This episode was splendid! 5/5! :D

Loved it! Absolutely everything I wanted the first episode to be, it was delivered perfectly. I love the manga so I was really excited for the anime. I'm so happy that the animation, the voices, the music all went above and beyond my expectations.

5/5 Beautifully done

Oh, wow! This 1st episode gave me life! I loved everything about it right down to the odd yet cool character design and fluid animation. Already, I cannot wait for the next episode!

Wow, first off, the OP is sung by SpyAir...and the ED is by NICO touches the walls? Whoa~! What a great combination!
Second, I REALLY love the story so far; it's also a more realistic approach to sport scenarios, rather than the cliche. I love the characters, and although the animation is different, it's well done and smooth. Can't wait for episode 2 ^-^

As expected of Production I.G.

It was amazing, I hope they follow the manga pretty well like Kuroko no Basket.

If this is anywhere near as good as Kuroko no Basket I will be very happy.

Sport anime OP's are always so energetic and make want to play whatever sport the anime is about even though I'd probably be very terrible irl.

Wasn't to sure as to wether or not to pick this up considering I dropped the manga. But decided to watch anyways, guess I'll pick the manga back up too.

Man it's been a long time since I read the first chapter...didn't remember a single moment from this episode XD I should probably just re-read the chapters instead of continue off from where I put it on-hold...

Anyways, great first episode! Extremely exciting and lots of emotions. Production IG does not disappoint. Also, The OST is full of feels. It's only the first episode, but I somehow already feel inspired. Oh of course, it's Hayashi Yuki! I liked his works for movies :) Also, SPYAIR and Nico Touches the Walls is a killer combo. I've been a fan of volleyball after reading Crimson Hero, and this was great. Looking forward to seeing Hinata and Kageyama become besties :D (Btw, agreed that Hinata's voice will take some time getting used too, but Ishikawa Kaito's voice is spot on for Kageyama.

Already a ten for me. I don't care, I've been waiting for this anime. I don't usually sports manga cause nothing is moving and yeah, doesn't feel as exciting, but I read some of Haikyuu!! while I could and loved it.

Anyway, loving the animation that was displayed in this episode, and I'm totally please d with the voices chosen for the characters.

I've already decided that I am buying the Sentai release. I want more sports anime to be licensed over here, so I'm set.

This was by far the most entertaining first episode I've seen this week so far. I absolutely love these kind of first episodes with sport anime, they're so gripping. Although I tend to slowly lose interest later episodes but still.

When the MC jump'd for the first time, it really had a impact. Also his personality reminded me somewhat of the MC from Diamond no Ace.

Looking forward to more episodes.

well a bit skeptical about this and how volleyball could be interesting my worries are at ease(nice animation is helping too)

and unlike some shows this one episode already built up the two rival MC and hes pretty damn passionate about it, they aren't wasting anytime :P

I personally already like this more than Ace

Can someone, please, for the love of god, fix the jargon. I'm contacting HorribleSubz about the issue now but I feel like I should make everyone who watches it aware of this, because I'm sure there aren't many others aware of this blinding error. It is eating me alive.

As a previous varsity volleyball player and captain I really want to enjoy this anime but the jargon terrible, so bad that it makes it hard for me to even watch simply because my brain doesn't process it. (When you have played a sport for 7 years, and are used to saying something and have it mean a certain thing, having a bunch of other people say something else is really irritating. I don't understand why there is even an issue, Kuroko no Basket had no problems with improper jargon)

"spike" and spiker" are old terms that nobody who actively plays volleyball uses anymore, we use "hit" (or "kill") and "hitter".
A "setter" doesn't "toss" the ball, they "set" it. During practice you toss the ball TO the setter so they can set you.
"wing spiker"? No that is an "outside hitter" if they are on the left side of the court, and a "right side hitter" or "weak side hitter" if they are on the right side of the court.
We also do not "bump" the ball, we "pass" or "dig" or "serve receive" (based on the previous play).

The only good thing I can say about the jargon is their use of "libero"...although it isn't like there is another term for it other than "defensive specialist" which is technically an entirely different position.

Please can someone let me know that I'm not alone am I really the only volleyball player who watches anime as well.

you know you are in too deep when u get ecstatic by seeing the senpai's backs animated. I am so happy with how this first episode turned out. So enjoyable and yes i agree with Hinata's voice being a lot higher than i expected but I'll get used to it. We still have more to see and I hope the voice actor will do Hinata's energetic/fighting spirit some justice! My favorite thing was that scene where they showed Kageyama with the king robe and crown, oh man.

I played, but in Portugal, and there certainly wasn't that kind of specialized Jargon for those words, or maybe because I wasn't professional nor anything close, just like in the anime I played in a school club(with a coach). You know probably the jargon is the way it is, because they are only school players or because in Japan they don't use the same words as in America(I assume you're from America). Because this is a translation from the Japanese probably nobody in the translation's team knows that specialized Jargon and so they just translate literally.

Yeah I played varsity volleyball too and the whole "toss" thing really threw me off at first. I had thought that he just asked his friend to throw the ball up rather than to set it to him. Either way, although the terming is off, its not so bad as to where it doesn't make sense so I just let it slide.
And I was a little disappointed that they didn't fold the top and bottom of their knee pads over, but I feel like that's more of a western thing anyways.

The animation is quite striking. Ahaha...

I love the animation. The sudden rival was a bit weird and hostile, but I liked it! Expectations met! I would love to see volleyball get some popularity from this. :D

Reminds me of the MC from Big Windup, but this series seems more like a shounen sport. So long as it doesn't gain superpowers I'll love it.

Excellent. This is the Yowapeda of Spring season, might even surpass it. Really shows that modern anime have their advantages over older anime (not that all modern are better than older tho). The animation and music make it even better than it already is.

Reminds me of Oofuri, which is fantastic. Loving the main character.
