@Cyabvear
Episode 2 was a comedy, not fully but was. I can't say the same for the rest of the series. It doesn't seems so nor i expect it to be. But something must not require laughs to be a comedy, it was the case with that special episode.

Anyway, if we look at it now, they have included some "echii" stuff since the beginning, like for example, the nurse scenes, that may be a good thing or not, depending on your tastes.
In my eyes, this anime is turning into an "wide audience anime" rather than the "unusual anime" that I was anticipating, as I don't quite enjoy the "echii" feel in it, so when I am watching Kuchu Buranko the word "vulgar" comes to mind unfortunately for me
Still, it's an unusual anime.

Concerning the fact that it is adapted from a novel. In adaptations we never can tell what might or not might be actually the real work and in this case with a experimental director like Nakamura the adaptation level may variate hugely. But this is mere speculation, unless someone actually familiar with the work comes and rids us of our doubts we will never know for sure.

But let me state that I'm not pushing the anime down and I am still enjoying it at some extent.

Yes, he did. According to the film maker, the ghost who lived in that forest claimed two victims that night as a result of fear. Strange...and i agre, the sound effects were great. The animation looked like pencil cutouts...amusing.

Oh, I understand where you're coming from RobdeFR. It's just that I never aknowledged this kind of stuff as comedy. Well, ffs, it doesn't even make me grin.

@Yae-hime, I loved the sound effects. Did he die from fear or something?

I'm pretty sure that Kuchu Buranko was adapted from a novel, so he can only work off the storylines given in the source material.

I just plainly enjoyed it. It's supposed to be a comedy.?. idk

Of course it's a comedy, but allow me to explain my desappointment.
The anime community is full of that type of comedy already, so I wasn't expecting such field of comedy coming from the same guy that brought us Ayakashi and Mononoke.

I don't know about the comedy bit but I enjoyed all 3 episodes so far.
