Some of the main characters look, feel, and act similar. Also, in both shows, the main girl leads the team with her great skill. She also feels inferior to her mother and sister who lives separate from her. Her sister is very well known, and at the end of both series, the main character finally has the courage to face her sister. Also, both clubs are being resurrected by upperclassmen, and there are other members that are extremely talented as well. If you like GuP, you'll adore Saki! And if you liked saki, you will appreciate, and probably love GuP as well :)

Mahjong Club/Kendo Club. Both are aiming for the nationals. Both have way more female members.

if you liked the games in saki, you might enjoy akagi since it show the same game.

School kids work to find enough members in order play in competitions. Even though it is there first time in show, they are quickly noted as the team to beat.

shion no ou = shougi saki = mahjong both complicated games(to me atleast) and fun to watch and maybe learn.

While the two are similar in more than a few ways. From the over-the-top game action to, the busty twintailed girl, to the flat chested hyperactive girl who's likely to be packing in the event you need a big meaty TACO! It's easier to tell you how they're different. For example, watching Shakunetsu isn't comparable to a library stocking only the holy Bible.

hikaru no go is about a boy named hikaru who plays a game called go, in saki it is about a girl named saki who plays a game called mahjong, if u liked hikaru no go, this should be interesting also.

More mahjong.

In both series, the main characters not only want to become stronger through participating in more advanced tournaments, but they also have got emotional motives and struggles to communicate with their loving family. They need to become to top ones to solve their family issues. What's more, the fighting stage in the tournaments in Angelic Layer are different and grand each time, which makes the fight become quite challenging, fresh and exciting, and those who participate must use their knowledge, skills, experiences and wisdom to win the game.

Although Saki is about Mahjong rather than acting, the basic premise is the same. In Hitohira, the lead character has an exceptional skill which is voice projection as it relates to acting, while in Saki, the lead character has exceptional skill in Mahjong. both characters seem to hate their respective role in which their skills are utilized, but soon start to change their mind.

Both main characters has special ability.Sena has the running speed of light while Saki has the +/- zero. Both aim for the tournament competing against pros and makiing their way through. Only difference is that Eyeshield has guys in the game

Both are "sport" anime with a little bit of supernatural elements in them. The "sport" is one that is a team effort as a whole but the matches are fought individually (or in pairs in POT) They both have rich rival schools that they end up befriending. The protagonists have family members that are well known in the "sport" world but the relationship is hidden from other people.

Moe highschool girls friendship& comedy. While Saki is sports themed, and A-channel is slice of life one can feel some similiarities.

-Both animes are about getting better at their games aiming to keep on winning and continue to move onto bigger tournaments to aim higher -Both have really potential leads

They give of the same vibe as each other. The anime story telling is similar too. This is just based of one episode. But i believe Ryuuou will turn out to be very similar to Saki once we get to see more. So far i would recommend both if you like the one of them.

Both are about happy-go-lucky girls in an all-girls school. Manabi has a bit less chatacter depth, in my opinion, but is still a lot of fun.

Similar feeling to the flow of the story, similar plot in the sense of strange individuals looking for friends without knowing it

The yuri is strong in both. They share a large part of the fanbase and were animated by the same studio. The main characters of both anime look a lot with each other and they both like the same kind of girl (Nodoka and Lynette have some similarities)

Epic mahjong. Koizumi is more epic, but Saki has cute girls.

In short Taisho Yakyuu Musume is Saki set in the 1800s with baseball instead of mahjong. The two series share lots of similarities from a wonderful and diverse cast of girls (a girl for everyones particular fetish lol) to a slice-of-life school club setting with some srsbiz competition going down. Thats only my impression after seeing the first episode of Taisho + some promos and following Saki anime/manga since it started in April.

both have AWESOME and powerful main characters that catch you attention. both have best friends of the main character which are also very similar. the storyline may not seem very similar but it captures the hearts of the same sort of people.(that line made it sound like a love story, WHICH NEITHER STORY IS). both have just the right amount of yuri.

both have similar, VERY SIMILAR main characters. both have superpowers. both have close friends of protagonist that are very similar. identical twin leaders. this is a very hurried version, but they are so similarly awesome it's uncanny

Both are about mahjong, with main characters who used to only play matches with their family, but end up playing against other people with higher stakes.

Both anime have the "school club" theme and have girls playing as the main role.

Both about about a game, eventhough saki has more magical element to it, while tamayomi is pure muscle. Both have yuri subtext, and both just abruptly end in the middle of tourney. Both have same tense moment in betweeen the action, because both game is turn based, both anime has a good time on calculating and making strategy based on unique abilities of each individual. Both anime feel really slow that the whole anime only cover a miniscule amount of game. I have a good time watching both, after all, its an all girls anime when 1 all girls school fighting other all girls school, what  read more

Although both series revolves around different activities, the casts of the series consists of young girls who excels in their abilities to compete against others. Both series has a school life setting where there's a lighthearted atmosphere and similar feeling. There is also a competitive atmosphere and the main character gets into the competition as she improves her skills. Among other factors, there is drama, comedy, and strategies involved in what their activates deals with. Friendship and rivalries are established along with memories to be made in both Saki and Stella Jogakuin Koutou-ka C³-bu.

- The characters of both shows uses powers while 'playing' - There's a hint of Shoujo Ai on both of these shows

Saki and SIW both give the feel of immersing the viewer through the card/board games the characters play even though the games are seemingly simple to play. Both MC are unknowingly very skilled at their respective games even though they consider themselves novices.
report Recommended by OppaiSugoi
Both anime has cute girls playing mahjong. Saki is more serious one and has a slight yuri element as well though.

They both take place in pseudo-alternate worlds where a very obscure competitive activity (completely fictional in Keijo's case) has become immensely popular worldwide, and there are tons of quirky high school girls that wanna go pro and be the very best like no one ever was. Oh, and they pretty much all have superpowers—not literally, but they might as well be—that give them a criminally unfair advantage over the other competitors (both protagonists even have their own overpowered special attacks as well). Both shows are packed full of completely over-the-top battle scenes between 2-8 high school-age girls, with named attacks and everything; however, while the battle  read more

Similar girls sports anime with usual team / club recruitment, training, and big tournament at the end. And both is about "unusual sports" so it feel refreshing and something new. Tons of variety girls personality, with a lot of focus on their mentality and relationship. Male character are usually just a side character. Character design and the world look interesting. Both use 3D animation to enhance the impact of their battles.

Seriously, ViVid feels much more like YuriOnMahjong rather than other Nanohas out there, so, if you liked one, you definitely should check out the other.

Both have to do with school clubs and have a similar feel to them.

While it might not be something every Saki viewer would like I still think it deserves a recommendation to most viewers. The constant references to Nodoka's breasts certainly remind me of similar events in regards to Mai-HiME's protagonist Mai. Mai-HiME has the same high school setting, but whilst Saki keeps it that way Mai-HiME changes into something more more along the lines of sic-fi/supernatural. It also gets quite a bit darker then Saki, though that isn't very hard given the light hearted feel of the anime. The amount of yuri undertones are about the same though I would rate Mai-HiME's as a bit higher given  read more

Seitokai no Ichizon would be a Student Council version of Saki character plot-wise, as both animes explain a lot in detail of their pasts & experiences together surrounding the main cast. Also there is at least a guy in either of their groups.

Both anime shows feature female competitive sports players (golf and mahjong) and they have these "special talents" that are almost supernatural, and also exclusively their own. Birdie Wing: - Eve has Rainbow Barrett, Aoi has Shining Wing, Kaoruko has In the Zone, etc Saki: - Saki has Rinshan Kaihou, Koromo has Haitei Raoyue, Teru has Mirror, etc

Both involve activities (mahjong, baking bread and pastries) that a lot of people might consider mundane. Both manage to make the activities exciting through exaggerated movements, bombastic reactions, and hints of the supernatural. Competitors in the tournaments are actually fleshed-out characters that can be sympathetic and are not just rivals of the week. Saki can be a lot harder to follow if you aren't already familiar with the rules of Japanese mahjong, even with translator's notes. Yakitate!! Japan seems to be easier to understand. And, of course, Yakitate!! has a greater focus on humor and punnery.
report Recommended by Jitterro
Both are slice of life comedies with a similar character design, and feature a teenage girl for a main character (in Saki's case, a High School Freshman and in Kanamemo, a Junior High student) and her involvement with an organization: a school club / newspaper company, which surrounds her with a group of wacky but supportive (mostly female) friends / club mates / co-workers / roommates. Kanamemo has a stronger element of yuri than Saki, which leans more towards schoolgirl friendship / crush.

Who will be the King of Game-er no, I mean the Champion of Mahjong. Basically both have similar worlds where apparently everybody plays Duel Monsters or Mahjong. Also Dumb Luck/The Heart of the Cards take a large part in both of them and somehow Yugi and Saki are blessed with them. But prefer Saki because this teaches you about a game that actually requires strategy and you get more women. Also Saki has unbelievable amounts of kinetic yuri!

Girls fighting to be the best. Loads of fanservice, ecchi and yuri hints. Though Saki seems to be more subtle (unless you watch the DVD ofcourse). Oh, right and exciting battles, though for Queen's Blade, it is much more predictable. Characters to watch for are Yuuki (Saki) and Nanael (Queen's Blade). Rie Kugimiya and Aya Hirano, ftw.

Both series focus on team competition with the lead being a "zero to hero" type character with natural talent in their respective sports. Each show is comprised primarily of one long arc taking place at a tournament of sorts interspersed with flashbacks to flesh out the character development.

In both the animes there are girls which have special abilities in different games. Rio has special powers in poker games and Saki has special powers in mahjong.

Both animes involve serious clubs, and have eye-catching fighting animations.
report Recommended by MagicFlier
Both animes have highschool girls and the story is mainly centered around the people in their school clubs, have lovely comedy, tries to recruit enough members to create a OFFICIAL club and have shoujo-ai tones.

- Both stories/plot focuses on their clubs related to their sport/game - The group aspires to improve and aim higher, go on training camps for that purpose, and has at least a guy in their club.
report Recommended by MagicFlier
Both leads in these two animes hated their 'respective roles in which they had alot of potential for, they had exceptional skill yet they refuse to take on that role because they both went through traumatic events of it in their past(s).
report Recommended by MagicFlier
-Both animes focuses on their respective sports clubs, and the cast tries to recruit enough members to create their club, -Has a side-character romance in their group -Characters wanting to improve their skills to get to the nationals. Only difference is Softenni is an ecchi anime and doesn't feel very serious because of the comedy that was executed, while Saki is a lighthearted anime (with various drama) considering that their seriously determined to win.

Both K-on and Saki are about school clubs as well as the characters lives both in and out of school. The shows also have many yuri/shoujo ai undertone moments in them, since both casts are mostly all female.
