Nah, we work on fifteen week schedules, so it'll just be a little longer into May than normal, but only by about a week.
oh please! the soundtrack is so mellow and beachy. It's unlike so many other anime soundtracks (just like the anime xD). I think besides the Fairy Tail soundtrack I go back to that one quite a bit.
aw bummer :( I'm glad my college gave out an extra long break. At first I thought it would be too long but now I feel it's just the right amount of time.
I have not! Always down for some more peaceful anime soundtracks. The only other one I can think of at the moment like that would be Tsuritama.
Pretty good! I'm on winter break for the next few weeks still so I've got plenty of time to watch stuff xD
Oh I'm glad you found new stuff! I've got a lot I've gone through lol. And yes our lists are surprisingly similar. I thought it was neat when you mentioned we were practically the same age and joined around the same time.
I actually bought the ending song for that show I love it so much xD It's a nice sad song.
I've always given out just one or two, but next year if I'm still doing it I think I'll put more effort into the presentation and pick out two-three if I can. I think it is nice to have more recs! Plus it shows that you put a lot of time into thinking about what the person might like~
Hey! Just found out you were my secret santa and so from the bottom of my heart thank you!! You really put 110% into recommending me things and in the presentation and I'm so glad bc I've been wanting to watch Champloo for a while but never got around to it. Now I'm half way through already and it may end up being one of my favorites by the end. I haven't had time to check out everything you recommended but I did get around to watching the first episode of Natsuyuki Rendezvous and it's been a fun little show. It actually reminds me of a webcomic about a lady who can see ghosts and ends up living in the house of a young man who passed away in it. This show seems a lot more personal in terms of their relationship to one another but it surprised me by how similar in tone they felt.
Anyways, thanks again for giving me the recs! If you ever wanna talk about shows I'd be more than happy to~
To me, Kino is one of those shows that I can always come back to and find something new to love. At a base level though, one of the best things about the show can be seen in its tagline: The world is not beautiful, therefore it is.
Essentially, the show is 11 short stories (one is 2 episodes long) that reinforce this idea from a different angle. Each presents a unique scenario that challenges social norms, human nature, and morality without giving you all the answers. The questions it proposes can be difficult and to this day, I flip-flop on how I interpret the meaning. But by placing them in the context of this old parable-like artstyle with such a simple, yet flawed character like Kino, the show gives off this almost iyashikei vibe. The fact that there is no black or white morality is what makes the world so unbeautiful, but at the same time the clashing of ideals and the freedom to live and think as an individual lends to its own beauty.
Given you have Natsume in your favorites, I'd expect you'd probably enjoy Kino too. It can be a little pretentious at times, but once you start to see how Kino is not a blank slate, perfect character, but this damaged, confused kid everything starts to open up into this unique unforgettable experience. Of course, I strongly recommend it, and if you do end up watching it and want to talk about stuff, I'd be happy to ^^
