Both take place in a fantasy world full of magic and sorcery. There's plenty of action and comedy. Gokudo and Lina's personalities are a bit similar to each other...definitely not the goody-goody hero type.

They are similar in plot devices - the spell system. They both feature idiotic characters to be made fun off. Their story lines I think are similar. While in Slayers the plot is better developed, in Kono Suba is really not, but they have the same style of plot holes and poor thought story. Comedy in them is very similar aka bad to very bad. If you really miss Slayers and want to see something similar, I recommend Kono Suba.

Both Orphen and Slayers take place in a fantasy relm, but the similarities don't end there. Magic, Dragons, journeys, crazy side-kicks, wacky-ness & comedy along with a serious side flow through Slayers as much as it does Orphen. In Slayers the main character is an infamous Sorceress known for her most dangerous spell- (Dragon Slave).

Slayers and Rune Soldier are similar because they are comedies base in a fantasy world with magicians, warriors, priestesses and thieves. Rune Soldier was a easier series to watch and a lot more funnier then Slayers but there are a lot of good Slayer episodes and more of them then Rune Soldier.

- setting (It's a fantasy world with significant presence of magic ... there are some giant monsters and dragons in both of them and scattered towns of different sizes. Apart from slightly advanced tech level in Fairy Tail the feeling of the world is about the same.) - visual style: Overall both shows are rather colourful. Super-deforming characters or entire scenes happens in both. - main characters: In both shows there are powerful magic users. Talking about main chars: Good natured, mostly quite powerful - beyond the level of 'average' heroes. The female center-character is quite different in this regard though between the two shows. Both anime take place in a fantasy world and have a somewhat similar art style and sense of humour. The characters travel the world while fighting some bad guys that are after them and sometimes get involved in some crazy situations.

I'm incredibly surprised that no one has compared Zero no Tsukaima to Slayers yet. Lina and Louise are both "flat-chested" magicians having to compete with their F-cup rivals (Naga/Zerbst). Both series feature a sword weilding male character that the main character ends up falling for and the humor is similar. All in all, I thought Zero no Tsukaima was fun to watch and if you liked it I know you'll love Slayers.

Legend of Legendary Heroes trying to be as fun as Slayers, they fail in it indeed, but it is worth trying. Duet of Ryner and Ferris is somehow similar to Lina and Gourry...

While completely different in setting, the somewhat goofy tone combined with action is very similar. The leads are quite similar too, with a flippant attitude towards their goals and tendency to get distracted by food (Lina) and vacations (Kei and Yuri) And they all don't seem to care how many things get destroyed in their wake, they're all queens of destruction.

Both are mid/late-90s adventure anime about a group of friends travelling to accomplish a goal and their shenanigans along the way. They've even pursued by some bumbling villains along the way. Slayers has more serialized story episodes than Pokemon does, but the episodic episodes in Slayers are enjoyable in a lot of the same ways that Pokemon is.

Both titles feature some good comedy by a female lead.

Sword&Sorcery anime. The similarity is actually remarkable. While Chaika's idea of sorcerers is very different from the Slayers, it's very well done, along with the mythical creatures. While the Slayers have the classic approach on wizards with fireballs, Chaika has unique mix of it with the modern age, where they use sniper rifles called Gundo's as magic staves. The mystery surround the main characters (Princess Chaika) is not the only thing that keeps the anime alive! Her 2 saboteur partner's awkward relationship makes great jokes!

Both are 90s fantasy anime with that simply RPGish feel in which a band of multi-race, multi-class, heroes must save the world.

Our adventurers are on a quest to stop an evil magician/sorcerer/demon. Both series has similar character personality and drawing.

Slayers and Inuyasha both have a group of people traveling together for the same purpose(Inuyasha-to kill Naraku, in Slayers- to Kill Rezo)They reminded me alot of eachother, they both also have fighting, and swordsmen(I guess you could say Inuyasha is a swordsman? and gourry of course) and of course I loved them both!!!

Looking for a serious and epic adventure with the occasional dash of comedy? Slayers has it. Hot-blooded red-headed heroine? Yup...she's there, too.

Both of these titles are fantasy with rich detailed worlds and fun characters. Tower of Druaga is over all more serious then The Slayers but it has its share of silly funny episodes. Tower of Druaga is based on a video game series and The Slayers has had video games based on it.

Everytime I watch this it reminds me of Slayers for some reason...

It has the same funny plot to it with alot of fighting.

Comedy and adventures in a fantasy world
report Recommended by KaizokuHime
Both have to do with magic (where Slayers has different types of magic, including alchemy), both have villains of demonic origin (mazoku vs homunculi), both can be funny and dramatic (Slayers funnier than Full Metal Alchemist) and both have main characters who are made fun off because of their "size" (Edward for being short and Lina for...umm..having small assets).

They are both adventure shows with swords/magic. Both have a level mix of comedy and drama, making them flow nicely and be easy to watch. If you like having fun while watching anime then both of these are great watches.

Both of this series were done by the same director named Takashi Watanabe. This series have similar character - qualities. Both of this first season of this have similar pacing and world building expect Shana are more modern. Both were done by J.C Staff

Both set in the fantasy world in a classic Japanese RPG game style. Both have a lot of comedy elements

Lyrical Nanoha to me felt like a mix between Card Captor Sakura and Slayers. It has a similiar design and feel to it. Nanoha is a bit more scifi than fantasy though.
report Recommended by Aurakin
Both series are great for viewers looking for a colorful, old school-style adventure anime with sword-fighting, sorcery, monsters, and fun characters.
report Recommended by ChangeLeopardon
Both of those series start of light but they get darker as the progress. Re Zero are more psychology stuff in a fantasy setting while Slayers are more of a fun time action comedy in a fantasy setting

90s adventure comedies in a swords & sorcery fantasy setting

Both are comedy/adventure series that feature a very powerful protagonist on a quest and make friends along the way.

You can expect lots of action-packed fights in almost every episode, a badass female MC, and some comic relief in both shows. Slayers and Kill la Kill are both fast-paced and fun from the very beginning and they don't let up.

Both are 90s fantasy series featuring over the top humor and female leads with magic abilities. While Slayers knows when to tone down the humor and be serious, Detatoko Princess is a non-stop barrage of ridiculousness
report Recommended by FinalReality56
Both are comedic fantasy anime that follow overpowered female protagonists who are feared by most who know them, and have a party of capable supporters. The main difference is that Slayers is set in an actual fantasy world, whereas Bofuri is set within an MMO.
report Recommended by FinalReality56
The main character is a mage who usually blows up stuff.

Slayers is the prequel to Slayers Next, but Next is probably my favourite anime with Slayers being one of my favourite series in general.
report Recommended by SmartestManAlive
Both are 90s series with explosive female leads and loud, sometimes ridiculous humor. They differ in setting, as DPF is sci-fi and Slayers is fantasy
report Recommended by FinalReality56
Both are 90s anime that blend self-aware humor and exaggerated characterizations with serious and dramatic plot points. While one is a fantasy adventure and the other a parody of military mecha, the humor of both series is fairly similar, and would appeal to viewers even if they aren't necessarily fans of the differing genres

Both form a group and go on a journey. Both have magic. Both are from the 90's.While there may not be a magical cat tank in slayers, the feel i got from watching both of them was very similar. That may just be 90's nostalgia though.

Both have the same kind of humor and the over the top destruction of towns.

Classic anime that should be watched by everybody. Lina Inverse is a great character.

Both have strong redheads, I decided to make this recommendation because I had not yet seen anyone recommend, and as both are adventurous there is my recommendation.

Both anime feature a group of characters in a fantasy setting, Slayers are for the humour and comedy while Grimgar are more about teamwork and tactics.

Giving a good oldskool laugh mixed with funny moments and good magical fights, one is more supernatural and more violent than the other storywise en development from char. is just funny

Same feeling, traveling group fighting against the enemy and enjoying the villages.
report Recommended by Kraanerg
Both deal with magic and have a Demon Lord character (though for only some episodes in Slayers). That's pretty much all the similarities between them. Slayers is more adventure and comedy oriented, while Ichiban is more ecchi, and although Slayers shows its age, it's still a better show than Ichiban.

RoLW is set in a fantasy world with fantasy elements similar to Slayers (some say Slayers is a parody to RoLW, which is somewhat true).
report Recommended by aminim00se
Both anime are from the '90s, even the same year. They are fantasy with magic and slapstick comedy and have clever dialog and optimistic heroes. Sometimes they seem to break the third wall.

Slayers and Bastard!! are anime from the 1990's that are set in a similar fantasy world with magic, swordsmen and monsters. Slayers is more lighthearted and comedy oriented while Bastard!! is darker and violent. Both titles have a good mix of action and comedy with over the top characters. If you enjoyed one, you will enjoy the other.

Both are comedy/action/fantasy anime with good story and a happy ending. If you liked Hyper Police, you have to watch Slayers. I bet you will enjoy it ;D

Both talk about adventures in a magical world with a european medieval style. Both protagonists are wizards (Dai are more knight than wizard) and have a lot of special abilities. Both have much comedy, battles, monsters, magics and etc. Character Design and Characters are alike.
report Recommended by bereta002
Slayers is an older title, but combines both magic and adventure with comedy.
report Recommended by RedMageSohma
Despite in slayers protagonist is a small woman both titles shares the same spirit of the adventure, they care much about action and less about character development. JoJo is just Slayers in modern setting, where magic seems just a bit more realistic and all main characters are bulky men.

Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis is similar to Slayers in the way the characters and setting are depicted. They share heavy fantasy worlds in where there are loads of demons, gods, lords, summons, magic, and all things fantasy in a medieval setting. The protagonist Favaro is reminiscent of Lina from Slayers, in that they have orange hair, are comical, attract danger, and have many vices, such as money and food. They even have their own "rival" of sorts, Kaiser for Favaro and Naga for Lina.

The heroine in Dazzle/Hatenkou Yuugi is a young, powerful magic user, much like Lina. Their personalities are rather similar, but the world in Hatenkou Yuugi is much darker, especially in the manga. Both lay somewhere in between shounens and comedies, and are primarily happy with some dark moments.

plays in a fantasy world where magic is the key to survive, great comedy moments and lots and lots of scorcery with interesting storyline to follow, both have a urge to do things of their own and NOT listen to their teammates, but in the end, they show everything they´ve got! and it got me into it
report Recommended by Shura-shurato
Mahoujin Guru Guru is much more cutesy, but they do have a few things in common. Both are fantasy comedies dripping with silliness and never stay serious for long. Both rely heavily on using magic. Both main characters don't necessarily want the role they are given (the "burden" of being relied on to save the day). If you watch one, it's easy to appreciate the other.

Both Slayers and Night Wizard are "sword and sorcery" type fantasy. Slayers is more heavily tilted toward comedy, but Night Wizard has a good amount of humor in it as well. Both series revolve around the teamwork of a group of very likable, colorful main characters and the resurrection of a demon lord -- with a few twists for added complexity. Great entertainment with enough substance for real enjoyment ^_^

Surprisingly enough both leads Lina Inverse & Mikami Reiko are nearly identical in terms of personality; powerful comedic cheapskate gold diggers. Aside from that, both animes share a blend of comedy & serious moments even though one deals with fantasy while the other deals with paranormal activity. Both series contain great diversity in its characters & several great comedic episodes. The Slayers is slightly centered on action more than Mikami as it contains various villains & story arcs. Ghost Sweeper Mikami offers comedy gold with the occasional dark moments. While these animes do have some dark scenes it will always contain that good sense of  read more

Light-hearted fantasy with a tongue-in-cheek approach to the usual clichés.

Similar fantasy universe with magic, dragons, mazoku and heroes. They are both comedy adventures, but Kyou Kara Maou is more for female audience while Slayers is more for male audience.

Both shows are about tons of magical spells and in a fantasy, medieval setting. Oh and there's the adventure aspect in both shows as well. Magi is one of the more popular recent anime, and I am betting many active anime watchers should've already caught up with it. As for Slayers, due to its age, many younger viewers like me might've missed it back then.
