their alike in like a million different ways so if you like mermaid melody:pichi pichi pitch you will like tokyo mew mew ^^
They transform into super something and then they fight
As in the mermaid legend story there are a group of girls who have power and transform to fight evil. They all have their own specific power or color or position in the group. Also involves a love story between the main character and boyfriend who always is there to help or gets in trouble. The main bad guy and the boyfriend are mysteriously related in some way. The boyfriend has secret powers as well. Saving the world is the whole plot.
It's pretty much the same. Romance, Magical Girls and comedy. Tokyo Mew Mew is turning into cats (or other animals) and Mermaid Melody is turning into mermaids. They're REALLY like. I had to think of Tokyo Mew Mew when I was watching Mermaid Melody. Only difference is probably that they're singing in MM.

One idiot girl, one handsome boy, 82748294 other girls that together with the first girl fight the evil, and some kind of romance.
Transformation sequences, glittery battles, and an all-girl team of superheroes. Heck, even one of the MM:PPP villians looks strinkingly similar to Queen Beryl from Sailor Moon.

One of THE longest/repetitive names I've ever seen for an anime. And the name it's self probably grabbed your attention if the art didn't, or the fact that this is a MUSICAL anime.
The Story is pretty bad, It's full of gaps and is very jumpy aswell as questionable. The anime is full of fillers, and tends to only focus on Lucia, Hanon, and Lina, the "Primary" mermaids. (They're the only one's with new songs, and imagesongs of their... own, Excluding Karen.) The "secondary" mermaids are not ever acknowledged, they don't have background stories, lovers for themselves, or anything the Primary Mermaids get. Actually, Lucia & Kaito is the focus of this whole story, so everyone BUT them are technically 'not cool enough for us to learn about'.
The art of the original Manga and the anime are simular, but there are never any major errors for the art in the anime. The manga is Hanamori's first real work, so it's good they fixed everything. My only complaint is that the sideviews the anime portrays are very, very horrible.
The Sound is a musical. You get powerups, you get image songs, and you get group songs. Sometimes, you even get three songs in ONE episode. The BG music is nothing horrendous, either. It mirrors the current style of the Japanese scene, and adds in music box versions of image songs. Watery themed music are also included in the anime to get my vote for the best musical anime.
I've already discussed why the Story is bad. It's the lack of deph in any character BUT Kaito and Lucia. As well as the treatment of the character's personality, as they get almost no lines (except those in song, if they're lucky) so you wonder, "Why is Hanon mad all of a sudden? I thought her feelings for Kaito are neutral; why's she so mad?!!?!?!" or "I wish I knew exactly Coco's sound..."
The story trades in character depth for entertainment and to boost the Jpop careers of some of the voice actors. It's emotional, it's loveable, it's your techincal Mahou Shojou-Team Anime without depth. I must admit, if you watch this series, you wont care about the depth. You just want a good time and this is definately a good anime; And another note: the anime goes really slow due to the fillers.
IF you want to flame me for saying this stuff about Pitch, I love this show, It's one of my favorite. I just wish the story and depth was there, but it's not. Maybe ten years from now someone is going to redraw/make the series, and the depth will be added. read more

Story: Basically it's another "Magical Girl" anime plot, a girl who has the ability to transform must fight this evil group of villains with her friends/comrades as a Super Sentai team. The unique part of this anime is that the Mermaids don't attack, they SING, and their songs are painful to the villains' ears. Other than that, it's all cheesy.
Art: This depends on how you look at it. To me, the dresses for Lucia, H...anon, and Rina are full of many colors! (Practically every shade of pink, aqua, and green respectively.) On the other hand, the characters' appearances are okay, except it's too overdone. (I.e. Doumoto Kaito with the most repetitive hairstyle of any Bishounen.)
Sound: What I found unusual was that Lucia's voice is different compared to other Magical Girl heroines. While their voices are high-pitched, Lucia's is lower, unless you count her screaming. Hanon and Rina sound okay. The MMPPP songs can really get to you, even though they're all about love.
Character: This is what bugs me. Basically, the Mermaids' objective is to unite the Seven Mermaid Princesses in order to defeat the enemy. The problem is, for 52 episodes straight, ONLY LUCIA, HANON, AND RINA APPEAR THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE SEASON!! What about the other four? Well, Caren appears halfway through the season, but she distances herself from them. Noel and Coco were captured so they're stuck with the enemy until the finale. And Sara is a good guy turned bad. Wow. (Did they expect girls to love the main trio more than the four Mermaids in the back?)
Enjoyment: IT WILL GET ANNOYING. At some point, you'll realize that there's too many fillers. Luckily, Wikipedia has already identified the episodes important to the storyline so you can figure it out from there.
Overall: Obviously the ending was anticipated. When the last episode first aired, it was already confirmed that a second season, Pure, would be in the works. (Personally I liked Pure more than this season.) It was an okay anime, it did introduce me to all the beautiful songs in MMPPP. Still, there were obvious flaws that could've been fixed.

You would like it if you watched Sailor Moon or Wedding Peach, but the romance isn't as pleasing. It's very easy to get angry with Kaito, who in my opinion treats Lucia (the main character, who is the Pink Pearl Princess and is Lucia the human) kind of meanly and gets mad if Lucia doesn't bring him a bento or bread that she made or whatever. After awhile, you grow to love him though, because you can see him and Lucia becom...ing more romantically involved.
The songs get boring after awhile. The best song, Legend of the Mermaid, isn't used for a long time, but it's great when they start singing it again. Caren has an AWFUL voice. The best voice is Lina/Rina, who is also a great character. She provides a lot of the comedic relief to the anime. Hanon can get very annoying: Her infatuation with Mitzsuki is very shallow, she seems to only like him because of his looks, and it's nothing like the romance between Katio and Lucia.
What I really liked about this anime is how the villains aren't like the Sailor Moon-type "Villain of the Day." It's always the same ones, the Dark Lovers, except when the very annoying, very lesbian Black Beauty Sisters appear (but the BBS actually have a pretty decent song). The forbidden romance between Yuri, a Dark Lover, and Hippo, Lucia's sort-of sidekick/protector, is really sweet. And actually, the Dark Lovers are funny most of the time. You don't just get the good guy's story, but also the bad guy's story in a way.
All in all, Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch is a great anime, and I was very happy with it. I look forward to watching MMPPP Pure! read more
