100-man no Inochi no Ue ni Ore wa Tatteiru

Yuusuke Yotsuya has always disliked Tokyo, but he especially hates the people who live in it. He would rather thrive in a virtual world than try to get along with those around him. At the end of one school day, he sees the popular athlete Iu Shindou talking to Kusue Hakozaki, who spends less time in school due to illness. But when he looks away from the two and back again, they have seemingly disappeared.

Mere moments later, Yotsuya enters a state of free-fall, and the world begins to change around him. Dropping into a large pool of water, the first thing he sees when he comes to his senses is an assortment of enormous monsters. He soon finds out that he has been brought into a game world by Shindou and Hakozaki and that he must complete a quest within 14 days.

There is one thing that separates this world from the real world: anyone who dies will be brought back to life in 30 seconds as long as one party member is alive. Tasked with numerous quests that increase in difficulty over time, Yotsuya, Shindou, and Hakozaki attempt to discover the mystery behind the perplexing game world.

I'm Standing on a Million Lives was a pretty interesting isekai, specially because of it's story. Normally Isekais are all about getting lost in another world, but this one took a different approach to the genre itself. Why I kept watching this was to see how far the story could progress while still being a good watch.
Frankly, I didn't think I'd like it this much!
It's different, sure, but the story is cool too. The character developments are steady, the story progression is good too.
If you liked other isekais but I want a fresh take on the genre, this is the one to ... watch. Contrary to the easygoing attitude the MCs have in Isekai animes, this one differs by being a mix between serious & wholesome moments.
That's all I'd say. Any more & it'll be no fun :p

Mixed Feelings

So, 100-man no Inochi no Ue ni Ore wa Tatteiru (I’m Standing on a Million Lives) is an isekai anime that aired in 2020, produced by Maho Film. It takes the usual "transported to another world" concept but gives it a bit of a twist—our main guy, Yusuke Yotsuya, isn’t exactly a heroic, kind-hearted protagonist. Instead, he’s super logical, kinda detached, and sees everything as just a "game."
At first glance, this might seem like a generic isekai, but it does have some interesting elements. That said, does it do enough to stand out? Well, let’s get into it.

Okay, let’s be honest—the animation isn’t amazing, but ... it gets the job done. Maho Film is a smaller studio, so while the character designs are fine, some action scenes feel stiff or awkward. There are moments where the art style looks great, but other times it feels a little basic. It’s not bad enough to ruin the experience, but don’t expect Demon Slayer-level animation here.

The soundtrack is decent but not super memorable. The OP, “Anti world” by Kanako Takatsuki, is actually really catchy and fits the anime’s darker, edgy tone. The ED is nice, but nothing that really sticks with you.

Voice acting-wise, the Japanese cast does a solid job. Yusuke’s voice actor (Yuto Uemura) nails his cold, analytical personality, and the other characters fit well. The dub is okay, but some of the delivery feels a bit awkward at times.

I actually enjoyed this anime more than I expected. While it has some flaws—uneven pacing, inconsistent animation, and a protagonist who takes a while to grow on you—it also has unique elements that make it stand out. The darker tone, strategic fights, and Yusuke’s development kept me invested. It’s not the best isekai out there, but it’s definitely more than just another generic fantasy anime.

Would I recommend it? If you like isekai but want something that tries to be different, then yes! Just go in knowing that the first season is more of a setup for things to come.

It’s not a must-watch, but it has enough good stuff to be enjoyable. If you can handle slow character growth and don’t mind some clunky pacing, it’s a fun ride.

I'd like to define it differently, but it's actually just another isekai haha, the only difference is that here they return to their real world... and they're not so OP, the objective is more like a video game like "specific missions" and so on...

but it follows the pattern of teenagers in a world fighting against fantasy things, where the protagonist, even at a disadvantage, is quite OP.

hmmm well, it's not that bad, it's not boring but not very interesting either. It's a bit slow without much excitement in the chapters. Plus the animation, soundtrack, and "jokes" of the characters don't help ... much either. It's like playing a video game but you're just walking the whole time without using the run function. I don't know, it's weird. It's a world that seemed too big from the beginning and with a lot of story to tell, and that if they took it very calmly, then they'd have to wait another 10 seasons or read the manga to finish.

maybe what I complain about the most is that you can't empathize with any of the characters. They all have such surreal personalities that you can't really understand them... and well, nothing... that's it... I'll leave it as bad even though it will have another season... mainly because of that, because it never made me feel anything and most likely they'll never finish it.
