Five years have passed since the occurrence of the incident known as the "Human Annihilation Mission." In Japan, a novelist is dealing with writer's block after her friend has gone missing. In Hong Kong, three sisters, masters in the use of paper, run their own detective agency to solve cases that involve books. When these people are brought together, a bond greater than blood is formed - a bond that will be sorely tested by the evil powers intent on taking over the world.

Join Anita, Maggie, Michelle, and Nenene as they travel the globe in order to save the world from the evil mastermind, Mr. Carpenter! Of course, that's if they can find the time to put down the books they're reading...

Despite its bookworm outlook at the begging, this show is very action oriented. And its action is centered around Nenene's three 'bodyguards' known as Paper Users. They have the ability to shape and mold any forms of paper to virtually anything they want. Anita King runs the offensive using paper as blades and other weapons, Michelle Cheung is the defensive user creating barriers and such, and Maggi Mui has the most versitility of the paper being able to create creatures and vehicles. At my first impression of the use of this power i was a bit skeptical. If your anything like me your probably going read more

Read or Die - the TV is a very interesting Action, Adventure, Anime; where the main characters have the strange ability to control paper. After watching this you might begin to think differently about books and paper. ^_^

Read or Die - the TV follows the adventures of three sisters who have the ability to manipulate paper. These three sisters end up protecting a famous writer Nenene, who's being targeted by some dangerous people. Yet while protecting her, they also take on missions from the Chinese Intelligence on the side, to retrieve rare stolen books. It continues like this until the British Empire begins to read more

The OVA of Read or Die is a secret agent parody, perhaps poking a little fun at how ridiculous some of 007`s plots are, and its overboard story of literary greats trying to take over the world has a campy charm. The TV series brings back most of the characters from the OVA,but centers itself around a new cast. Even though it`s a little more heavy handed with its mood and drama, all the style in the OVA is preserved, only drawn out to a long 26 episodes.

Where the laughably crazy plot in the OVA held a certain charm, it doesn`t serve well as the read more

R.O.D the TV soars above it's manga equivalent, Read or Dream, in terms of strong story and well developed characters, even bringing back several popular characters from the past. While the two host the same primary characters, the plot line of the tv series takes on a whole different path from the manga, and I must say that it was a brilliant choice. Although the series overall is rather slow to develop, it all results in an amazing ending climax and resolution that is well worth viewing for oneself.

Do note that it is not necessary to know anything about the Read or Die read more

Anime: Shoka
Paper based combat... the form of combat is a little different then shiny spells or guns. Instead a lot of combat is done with ink, sound and paper.

Both anime are mystery and about crimes. The characters and stories are great. There are also some comedy scenes.

Anime: Toaru Kagaku no Railgun
Both have really cool characters(Cute and strong girls). They may be one day at an epic battle and the other enjoying her daily life and friendship.

Anime: Magic Knight Rayearth
3 girls each, fighting for what's right in both of their worlds... or in R.O.D's case, BOOKS! Still, they're both pretty good anime.

Anime: Fullmetal Alchemist
These two series both involves siblings in a strange world where they use their supernatural powers to help others, achieving their goals, and solving problems.

In both series, there is supernatural elements (main characters in FMA uses alchemy while the main characters in ROD uses paper). Both of them requires energy and concentration for them to succeed.

Both series' siblings bonds are dramatic, comedic, emotional, and loving. They all function well as a team and looks after each others' well being. There is good character development in the series also that also focuses on some of the antagonists and supporting characters.

Anime: Arc the Lad
Plotwise it's not very similar, however you'll find the same atmosphere and pressure in both anime: the music is kind of alike and the internal conflict in the main character persists same way. In both of these the main character isn't the strongest (Elk is weaker than Arc). In both anime you'll find these kind of experiments on people and manipulation of people. Clive is as cold as Joker and there's the relationship Wendy- Joker and Clive - his assistant. Arc and Anita are kind of similar since they both have conflict with the past and they are full of energy for fight. Also in  read more
