Both Anime focus around girls giving up something for a fight and the souls that are attached. They also have anime styles that don't stick to the norm.

Little Girls fighting against each other in parallel universes. One bright side, where you have a kind of slice-of-life feeling while there is the other "darker" side, where the girls fight. A big difference is the card game, which is not in BRS but the dream sequences and the overall atmosphere are quiet similar.

Dark Gothic animation when the story heads into the other world, intricate designs for the fighting girls outfits, not to mention dreams and erasing pain... the Anime are very similar in tone.

In both there exists a different world where people fight each other. In this separate world there exists an "avatar" of a person in our world. In C it's the person's "Asset" which reflects one of the person's possible futures. In BRS it's an another person (resembling the real world version) which reflects the feelings of the person in the real world. In C their fights happen consciously and they affect the real world while in BRS it's vice versa, they fight unconsciously and the real world actions affect the fighting in the other world. The main characters are somewhat similar personality-wise. They both don't  read more

monstrous world inside im brs fantastic animation and silient dialogues. you may have to overthink what is going on in wonder egg be care and watch 13' episode before blaming on silly plot but overall it is still about self-care and psy problems that can be solved with a sword

They're both based on Vocaloid songs, but Black Rock Shooter was based only one Vocaloid song, Black Rock Shooter, and Mekakucity Actors was based on the Vocaloid song series, Kagerou Project

The "other world" is a dark Gothic place filled with only a few places of light and bright colors. The "avatars" are other selves representing what one wants to throw away based on their human desires and scars. There is also a lot of action and the characters are in themselves interesting.

There're a lot of similarities, like the 3D graphics, the MC's search for identity, and the emotionless personality of the characters. Also, other scenes take place in other worlds as unearthly beings fight each other while humans communicate to them. And, of course, Weapon-action fight scenes!

The theme of magical girl are central parts of both series. However, unlike most magical girl anime(s), both of these series falls more into the psychological and topics more suited for the mature audience. Additionally, both of these series become more and more emotional as the episodes drags on that makes them an unique little gem.

Both series present themes of supernatural and sci-fi as the protagonists battles in an alternate world filled with action, drama, and mystery. Both series' protagonists uses supernatural abilities in their fights and seemingly with a purpose as the story progresses.

Both have a metaphysical bent to them and both deal with problems stemming from interpersonal relationships.
report Recommended by xthedestroyer
Both involve epic action with young girls fighting using powers. Both involve tragedy and have that feeling of Sci-fi. Drama is also involved in the plot.

The atmosphere feels the same with the fights and the story buildup.

Both of these anime have the same fighting style (a weapon that can be a gun), a great fighting scene, some yuri bait, etc. The difference is that BRS based on the MC's another life/ dream and fighting with her friends.

Black★Rock Shooter is a lesser-known series, one that explores darker themes than the classic Sailor Moon many are going to be familiar with, yet another draw to the lesser known Anime is the setting that the magical girl battles draw from as well as the psychological part of the series, which for some will be a nice change up for Sailor Moon, and yet there is still something about the classical magical girl series that viewers may want to come back to.

Both animes have great animations and qualities, filled wonderful fighting scenes and "what the fck" moments. Easy, enjoyable, short action animes.

Both came from original concepts. Black Rock Shooter coming from a song, Miss Monochrome coming from the idol, Yui Horie.

Both are action titles with main girl protagonist, who is kinda scantily dressed. This girl fight with second girl and have supernatural powers and guns, of course. In both we can see relationships like friendship between main girls. Those titles are both good and at the same level for me.

Both of these shows are about girls caught in some really bizzare situations with heavy things on the line. BRS is a little oddball in its presentation, and Madoka is a little passive in regard to what it's showing you, but I'm sure that both of these shows will tickle your fancy.

The shows have a similar story telling style. Both are pretty dark. Both have fantasy elements. Both are about another world (in a sense). The feel of the show is very similar to Fate/Extra and Mekakucity Actors.

Both shows involve characters with issues and emotional traumas that manifest physical form and play a huge role in story development.

Both are epic cgi action fighty colorful scene with sub-par and confusing plot. Good to watch if you are extremely bored with nothing else to do.

I think that these two anime series go hand in hand cause they both deal with school students, that are going through a very big hardship and are lost and don't really know or acknowledge of what is truly going on. And there is a supernatural/fantasy touch to both of them, so I really align these anime.

They are pretty much the same: - main character is related to/in a strange world and must fight witch-like persons, who are only in this other world, because they're desperate or sad in the real world - both seem pretty normal or soft at first, but they definitely aren't

Both feature magical girls fighting in other world, and have serious plot invisible at first

Super-powered anime girls fight for another world. Both feature well-written female protagonists, and engaging storylines filled with plot twists.

Both feature likeable and well-written anime girl protagonists who do cute things and fight evil.

Both feature anime girls strengthening their bonds as they fight strange beings in surreal alternate dimensions.

Both are about magical girls whose powers are themed around emotion. The Reflectors focus their emotions into their rings to transform, while the emotions of the girls in Black Rock Shooter become alternate personas in the mindscape. The main protagonist (Mato in BRS, Hiori in Blue Reflection) is a cheerful and pure-hearted girl, but is also forcing herself to be this way, and ends up carrying the burden of her friends’ negative feelings. Hiori trying to save her sister is similar to Mato trying to save Yomi. Both have a special element that carries emotions in humans. In BRS, it is an alternate persona, and in  read more

Both are magical girl series worked on by the artist Huke. You can expect similar high-octane animation and artistic themes, including the magical girls wielding transformable sci-fi weapons. The settings are also very similar, both taking place in a dream world that reflects the characters’ emotions. The protagonist (Ruby in RWBY, Mato in BRS) is also trying to rescue her friend (Weiss in RWBY, Yomi in BRS) who has closed herself off in the dream world. Considering these similarities, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that BRS had an influence on Ice Queendom’s story, considering that Huke is the creator of BRS. BRS even makes  read more

Anime girls fight evil with mecha weapons! Both have good quality CGI and super-strong anime girls.

Cute anime girls battle evil in surreal, artistic worlds. The protagonists fall into despair later in both series, but eventually overcome it and achieve their happy endings.
report Recommended by GreyStoneFlinger
Both are cute series about anime girls who form friendships with each other. K-On is a music themed slice of life, while BRS is based off of a song, and is more action-packed.
report Recommended by GreyStoneFlinger
Both feature characters going through and overcoming drama and broken friendships. Anohana is more slow-paced, while BRS is action-packed. The scripts for both series were written by Mari Okada.

Both shows feature lighthearted yet epic stories about magical girls fighting evil forces. The female protagonists are empowering and treated with respect, and friendship is a major theme in both series. You can’t help but cheer for the girls as they overcome their despair and fight for their happy endings.

Both are amazingly designed series about magical girls who fight evil in another world. They’re cute and lighthearted, and have amazing CGI animation that doesn’t hinder the series whatsoever.

Both shows feature femininity and strong female characters in a positive light. The female protagonists battle evil forces, and grow as characters as the shows progress.

Ok. First things first. Kiniro no Corda (La Corda d'oro) has almost nothing similar to Black rock shooter and vice versa. But when i watched Black rock shooter and Kiniro no Corda, I just thought that they were similar because in Kiniro the girl is occasionally freaking out about something, and then everything seems so... dark and her face is so similar to a girl in BRS when she is freaking out? I dunno. just thought that part was quite simllar. Also, the girls are so caught up in the activities they do that they part away from friends and they get angry or anxious.  read more

There's a sacrifice for love, there's a lot of pain, blood and suffering. Mysterious, epic, dramatic feel. Also a lot of colours, strong emotions and meaningful symbolism. You don't understand the story right away but by the end you admire the intricate plot and the surprise which you haven't expected. Both shows contain what is called 'hidden gems'; they're one of a kind, memorable.

Both series are about female protagonists who desire to live however they could, both have conflicts with creatures that could possibly be the result of that desire. Also, the Episode Director, Storyboard, Animation Director of BRS is the director of PSG.
report Recommended by Seyfert
Both shows have intermingled relationships. Though there's less blood in BRS, the story of wanting to save someone or tell them the truth is still there.
report Recommended by al12gamer
The two arnt similar at all in terms of story, but if you loved the off the wall epic action of one, the other is where you can go to get your next fix.

The book in BRS about the little bird and the colors reminded me a lot on the picture book "Raigomaru to Jibeta no Monogatari" in True Tears. Both animes make you think about the people in your environment and how you treat them. You start to care slightly more about them and want to treat them better.

The fights in Date a Live really reminded my off Black Rock Shooter, the intense battle with using some fancy guns and swords made it similar to the fights of BRS! Both are great series with lots of nice action!

Both anime have an alternative universe were fighting takes place and they both have girls of same age going through dark parts of they're life.

Lots of allusions to a very important in-story picture book that links all the characters together.

Why do I recommend Gantz:O?Well, that is because of the action the two series present, the great character design for the antagonists and also for the psychological element they both present. They also feel similar in that they present a continues fight, that is if you take the slice of life, dramatic moments aside from Black Rock Shooter.
report Recommended by JokerDBlue
Both are surprisingly dark anime that juxtapose the lives of normal teenage girls and putting them in brutal fights and situations no one should ever be a part of. The action is great and fluid in both and leave viewers with food for thought at the end.

Both have crasy character, both have alternative world and both are full of motions

Both Mikagura Gakuen Kumikyou and Black Rock Shooter are based entirely off Vocaloid Projects.

both stories revolve around the main protagonist supported by sub protagonist. they went from the real world to a fantasy world in order to reach a certain goal. on the way, they were forced to face either their problem or other's problem. both story also includes a twist with one of their most trustee nakama!
report Recommended by sora2eugene
Both have beautiful art and are about seemingly normal girls but have more supernatural things going on in their lives then meets the eye. In Toki wo kakeru shoujo the girl is aware of the supernatural aspect of her life while in Black Rock Shooter she has no idea about. Both supernatural aspects of the girls affects others memories around them.Black Rock Shooter is more of a action/drama while Toki wo kakeru shoujo is a ScyFy/drama.

I'm not suggesting them because they have similar story lines or tropes. Rather, both of these anime feature very unique art styles / animation / coloring. From Hamatora's comic-book rainbowy flashes whenever people use abilities, to Black Rock Shooter's colorful paint bleeding dream world.
