Chihayafuru 2 is the sequel to Chihayafuru, which, is one of my favourite anime. I had great expectations for the continuation of this anime, and, I wasn't wrong. We still have our beloved characters, great Karuta matches, and an enjoyable anime at our hands. Of course, there will be a few differences here and there, more dilemmas, and a lot more tension (I'll tell you why).

This will be spoiler free, so don't worry.

Story 9/10-

The story still revolves around Chihaya and love for Karuta, and how she wants to become the "queen". By queen, I mean that the strongest female Karuta player in Japan, and by read more

Karuta! Arata! Taichi? K-karuta!!

Twenty five more episodes worth of charming romance and competitive karuta fun? Yes please. But don't expect a balance between the two; there's more latter quantity than the former, and whether you should be satisfied or not is up to your preference!

Who expected, or even acknowledged beforehand, that the true presence of competitive karuta would be ever so fierce and exciting from its outline? Well, I sure certainly didn't when I started from season one. Karuta is more of a complicated sport than popular ones such as baseball and basketball, and the entirety of season one teaches that it requires much more read more

Hyakunin Isshu (literally 'hundred people, one poem') is a Japanese card game typically played with a collection of two hundred cards. Each poem in this collection is by a different poet, and split into two halves: the first half for reading, the second for grabbing. In a match, the reading halves are then called out, and pairs of players must race to grabbing the corresponding second half of the poem. Chihayafuru excels by making this game of stratagem into something too human to ignore. It has no regard for how silly or strange a passion for the game may be, because the only thing it's read more

So, you ever tried something in your life and wanted to be the best? Well, I mean in terms of not really being the best but to try your best. Then, you realize that you journey to success is a lot harder than you ever imagined it to be. There are obstacles such as competition, stress/anxiety, and other factors that can influence your path to that destination. However, there are some people who just loves to try in order to become the best of the best no matter what the outcomes are. For a certain young girl named Chihaya, the journey continues with this brand read more

Anime: Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso
Shigatsu wa kimi no uso its similar to Chihayafuru not for his story, because both are very different, are similar for the personality of the main characters in the two animes. The main characters in both animes are constantly fighting to achieve his own dreams, in Chiyahayafuru and Shigatsu they fight for overcome obstacles and overcome their fears. Also, in the two animes we have the feeling of fresh youth and the passion of the main characters to fulfill their own dreams. In Chihayafuru the love of traditional Karuta game and in Shigatsu the love for classical music.

Anime: Touhai Densetsu Akagi: Yami ni Maiorita Tensai
Both of these anime take 'sitting-down' games and add compelling, and even intellectual twists. Akagi is much darker and Death Note-esque, while Chihayafuru is light but both are very breath-taking. In addition both anime dramatize significant portions of each anime's respective game. In Chihayafuru, that is the taking of the card in Karuta, while in Akagi it's the slapping of a mahjong tile and the declaration of "Ron".

Anime: Lovely★Complex
Chihayafuru and Lovely★Complex have similar main characters. They don't share interests or circumstances but are both adorably dense and wear their hearts on their sleeves. They mess up often but are honest and strive to improve themselves.
The atmosphere in these anime are similar—funny and warm with emphasis on growing up and figuring out who you are, where you belong, and what you're capable of.

Anime: Saki Achiga-hen: Episode of Side-A
Both stories/plot focus on their clubs related to their sport/game.
The group aspires to improve and aim higher and go on training camps for that purpose.
Both anime are trying to reach the nationals to reunite and face their old friends again.

Anime: Hikaru no Go
In both anime, the main characters (Chihaya and Hikaru) are introduced to a Japanese competitive game since they are kids (in Chihayafuru the sport is karuta, and in Hikaru no Go it is the board game called go), of which they became hooked on. They both try to became the best in the respective sport, aiming for the title of "Meiji" (the master of the sport). In Chihaya's case, she strives to became a "Queen" (the best female karuta player). For achieving their dream, they go to various tournaments and have to catch up to defeat their rivals (for Chihaya it is Shinobu; for Hikaru  read more
