OOOOOOOOOOOHHH HELL!!! Chihaya finally gets to see Arata but all there gunna give us is a few murmurs from Arata before it ends. BY GOSH they better give us lots of conversation between the 3 of them in the next one! :) Hopefully we will get to see the Queen give her input as well<(fingers crossed)>
Probably my favorite episode of this season so far! GO MIZUSAWA!!!

I can't complain about the slow pacing anymore... This episode was just brilliant. Without all of the time this show took to build up to this moment, I don't think it would have felt this rewarding.

Holy crap, though, that was intense. I loved Taichi so much this episode, and I really love how we got to focus on his inner thoughts in the defining moment of the team finals. I could hardly breathe during that extended period of time waiting to see the outcome of the match. The build-up of that tension was amazing, right to the very end.

That little bit at the end with Arata and Chihaya's realization of becoming the best in Japan without becoming the queen was a wonderful touch that just made the victory so much more meaningful.

I loved this episode so much, and I'm absolutely, ridiculously happy with the win they took as the best team in Japan and the way this episode was executed.

This anime is too good, I swear. All the feels, this is the reason the anime spends so much time developing the characters! Perfect episode 5/5

I hate the pan camera away at the last moment trope, but I'm happy to report that Chihayafuru is one of the only series that has me on the edge of my seat in every episode.

This episode is a good example of how Chihayafuru somehow never fails to entertain me. It is amazing that it manages to do so even if the outcome might be sometimes sort of predictable.

Just when we finally get the ayase and arata moment, it's cut short and we'll have to wait next week. Oh, the frustration!!!

Well, this episode has officially secured Chihayafuru's place as the best show of the year (at least for me, that is).

I have literally never felt this giddy about a win in my life, not even when I've actually won finals myself. This show is just so spectacular, if there are any more episodes this fantastic I might even need to give it a ten.

This episode had me PRAYING! I, who do not pray under many circumstances. I was so moved I screamed out loud when the last card was read. This being at 12:30am hahah xD This was a beauty of an episode, and go Chihaya you tell'm girl. Taichi, words cannot describe how much I adore you!! :D

Oh my god, I got SUCH CHILLS during this episode! I couldn't believe it when the ED started ... I NEED MOAR T_T
Great episode to FINALLY focus on Taichi, IMO. We haven't been seeing much of him but WHAT an episode to do so! With him plotting to break even (taking time to send that card) and then attacking ... WOW! Chihaya was able to pull ahead and secure their first win (then promptly fall asleep doing so), but Nishida and Taichi clawed their way back. So they took a leaf out of Hokuo's book and synched their cards for the luck of the draw ... sooo stressful to watch! I know how you feel, Sumire! D:
Pretty intense monologue for Taichi there - "what's the point of memorizing them all?". Especially since that's what he's good for, and of course the card that he's left with ... though it seems his praying did work out - Chihaya woke and saw them both successfully defend their cards - man, what relief!
Looks like Rion will continue to improve (I liked the coach's words after :P) and then WE FINALLY MEET ARATA! ;P Awww, Chihaya got to be the best without becoming Queen?! Soooo nice to hear :3
Doesn't seem like Chihaya will participate in the individual tournament with that injury of hers, so we'll get to focus more on the other players maybe?! Either way, next week's episode can't come fast enough!

@Dashiawia, I have to second the motion that this was indeed the best episode of the season.

A manly tear was shed today. Superbly done.

I honestly thought they were going to lose and then have to come back to win next year so it was insanely intense when it came down to the luck of draws. I loved how they implemented the strategy that they learnt from hokou!

It's funny how they ended up as runner ups in the regionals with Hokou being the champion of the regionals, yet they emerged victorious as the champions for the nationals.

IT'S A WIN!!!
^_^ WOOOOT!!

Loved how Taichi needed Chihaya's support and got it! It was almost like Chihaya was his God. :))) That look and that win! :P ^_^ Baahahahahaha!!

But damn.... Arata!! Eek.. His presence is SO damned STRONG! Like.. all he muttered were Hmm x3, but.. it was just enough to wipe Taichi to the side... :/
Baaah! And I was really starting to root for Taichi... O_o
What yoo do to me Arata! Ho!

I would thank God if Chihayafuru used that cliche of killing one of the protagonists.
You know, Arata is a countryside kid, not used to the big city ... he could cross the street without looking to one side...

I was about to explode during the luck of the draw, even though I knew deep down that they would win. This anime does suspense so well, it's insane.

An easy 5/5 for this episode, but what's next? The individual tournament? Can they even finish that in 4-5 episodes?
And what if all love is an act of bravery?

Could you look me in the eye and say that you are not afraid?

If Chihaya can't play due to her finger, the only matches worth seeing are a possible Arata/Queen and then seeing if Porky and Taichi can advance anywhere.

~~~
I was internally screaming the whole episode. This show is just on another level.
I can't believe someone gave this episode a 1 out of 5! It was so awesome! The intensity of this show can only be achieved by greatness in multiple areas. I just re-watched the big moment and was about to start crying like I hadn't already seen it. This episode did such a great job of tying in character development and past matches.
I know Taichi said "just this once" but I really hope his luck has changed for good. He obviously deserves to be a Class A player! One thing that bothered me was how quickly Taichii faded into the background once Arata entered the picture. The focus was on Taichii, but the victory was still about the team. So in the end, it's only natural that Chihaya is still thinking only about the team and how great they are. Her obliviousness is so not cute, poor Taichii! And poor Dr. Harada - he's been pushed to the side so many times now lol.
This was an enormous episode and we still have several left. I can't wait to see how the individual tournament goes! I really want to see the Queen's reaction and I want to see her play as well.
2nd best of Winter 2013, best of Spring 2013. The beautiful thing about this show is that you can never tell if they're going to win or not. You literaly feel that pressure from the instant a match starts. That's why it's so hard to have to wait weeks for the next episodes. Another thing about it is that you don't need to see millions of things happening to characters for them to develop. Regardless of what little we've seen of the side characters this season, when we do see them, we can see how much they've matured and how they've grown without having to used a contrived turning point or event to change them. We don't need to see them change or grow, they do so regardless. They don't need to be deep or complex, either, they are who they are. Chihayafuru might even be the least pretentious thing I've ever watched while managing to have a flawless writing style. I love this show to death. So I have to buy a region free DVD player and import it from Australia to buy the DVDs? I'll do it.
The main set back of being a sports anime is that it can't help being repetitive, so much so that you slowly start to wish the main character/main team will loose. I guess its the same as how in battle shounen you already know the protagonist is going to win. The crying bit is wasted on me too since Ive seen it so many times after every single match in this show.
Its still above average compared to most shows airing I'll give it that.
