Welcome To The Video Store - The Bad Stuff

I remember going to the video store, browsing the shelves, and picking out a movie based on the box art alone. I'd look at the front, I'd look at the back, and more often than not I'd put it back on the shelf. Occasionally there'd be something like Ghost in the Shell or Ninja Scroll, and I knew I just had to rent it, or more accurately get my parents to rent it.
This isn't just a list of movies that were available on VHS at my local video store, this is also a list of movies that I would have rented had they been there. They have box art and synopsis appeal, regardless of the reality contained within.
This is my virtual VHS store, where we say Japanimation and we don't stock TV shows unless they're only a few episodes long. I hope you like violence and nudity. Things here also generally skew older, keeping with the VHS theme.

If you've having trouble finding this one, it's also called, "Space Armageddon". This is one of those anime that feels like a fake anime made for something else.

There are some hilarious animation bloopers in this one, like objects with cutoff edges floating in the middle of the screen because they thought they were close enough to the edge that no one would see it. Back on an old CRT, yeah, maybe, but you definitely see those floating edges now.

Powerfully dull. Like, surprisingly so. Watch this OVA intently, like you truly care, and feel how the life drains from your body. It isn't even an hour long, but boy does it feel longer than that.

This has a great art style reminiscent of Yoshiaki Kawajiri's work, and is just a wonderfully dark 90's OVA. It looks so cool, I just wish the story were more compelling.
