Otome games (sometimes shortened to otoge) are visual novels with a female protagonist, multiple male love interests, and story choices which lead the player down one of many routes towards a romantic ending. At their core, otome games are romance stories; however, they frequently feature an overarching side plot that is revealed slowly across each route.

Titles in this stack are sorted by most recent. Sequels and specials of TV anime are omitted. Where I've seen both the anime and played the VN, I've tried to give a brief description of what was covered.

The VN branches early into two common routes: one for the baka trio's routes (Urie, Mage, Shiki) and one for the main guys' routes (Rem, Lindo, <secret>). In the anime, the plot alternates between the two common routes, omitting and mixing events, while including main plot points of Rem and Lindo's routes. The baka trio get one episode each with some of their route adapted, but are mainly fodder.

Mage and <secret> are the least developed characters in the anime, which is a bit of a shame because their routes were possibly the best. ...You can pretty much take Urie and Shiki at face value >_>

In the VN, players are asked to choose a route from the beginning of the game, without any shared common route. The anime gives an introduction each route, before adapting the ending of the final route.

While not as prominent as Hakuouki, Amnesia has received multiple fan discs and extra stories, and is one of Otomate's core titles. When Otomate changes platforms, it is typically one of the first games ported to the new device.

The anime consists of original short stories that take place before and after each route, so unfortunately it makes little sense if you do not know the premise of the game.

While an OVA series was released for sequel game before this TV series (in 2003), this anime marks the beginning of the franchise. A special created for the third installment was also released in 2007.
