Both protagonists that sound quite different are laid-back, bounty-hunters, walk around with their hands in their pockets, and the directing and screenplay are by the same guy. I prefer Cowboy Bebop though. Both take place in space. Spike and Space Dandy also kind of look alike.

Shinichiro Watanabe is known for playing the role of directing both these two series. For starters, they have a similar style involving a space adventure. The main male protagonist has a casual way of living his life along with his their similar personalities. Their professions are also both classified as bounty hunters. There is humor, drama, and action present in both series. At the same time, we get to see different sides of the main protagonist throughout both series as they embark on their adventures.

Both shows feature rag-tag groups of misfits just trying to get by in futuristic sci-fi setting. Both have great comedy yet also amazing pacing so handle serious themes and tones with ease. Both by the same director and so unsurprising both shows have similar visions.

* Similiar plotlines * the main-protagonists of the two series are both bounty-hunters * the Art-styling in SpaceDandy is clearly Bepop-influenced in many ways. * The animation-techniques used during action-sequences closely resemble one another The main-protagonists look very much so alike.

Outer space. Moving around from planet to planet. In Cowboy Bebop, the leads are bounty hunters, catching criminals for their bounties. In Space Dandy, the leads are alien hunters, catching unregistered aliens to register them.
report Recommended by PrimeX
Although Bebop is slightly more serious, they're both space cowboys hunting bounties with a bit of humor to the mix.
report Recommended by misterferrari
Space Dandy is basically a less serious version of Cowboy Bebop.
report Recommended by garydai
Same space bounty hunter feel and advanced technology. Space dandy is a little more jokey and cowboy bebop is a little more serious
report Recommended by Vroknokmen
Both are about a guy with a crew flying throu the space. Both have some episodes that can be a little trippy. Space Dandy is more like a parody of Cowboy Bebop.

Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Space☆Dandy. Need I say more? It's almost certain that anything by Watanabe will be good. Space☆Dandy, so far, has been absolutely amazing. The visual aspect of it is AMAZING—the color, the detail, everything is just flawless. With the story yet to be unveiled (but still quite good so far), this is a good watch for anyone who has any sense of good anime.

Space Dandy is pretty much the spiritual successor to Cowboy Bebop, or at the very least, an ascended AU. If you watch one, you have to watch the other (preferably watching Cowboy Bebop first). While Bebop is serious, occasionally breaking out into comedic scenes, Dandy is comedic, occasionally breaking out into serious scenes. Regardless, both share a style and flair that help them stand out from the often cliché-riddled sci-fi genre.

They are both about Space Hunters. Its both comedic. Space Dandy is about a man trying to feed himself by hunting new aliens that haven't been discovered yet. And Cowboy Bebop is about a man who hunts through space for bounty hunters, offenders that need to be aprehended.
report Recommended by Madara22
Both could technically be considered to exist in the same universe. With Space Dandy taking place a lot later in the future. Both are the only shows to use Woolongs as space currency so that buffs up the argument. Both revolve around bounty hunters that often manage to fail at their job with crews that suck at living together on their spaceship peacefully. Both are very slow paced shows but still host a lot to offer. Space Dandy is more comedic oriented while Cowboy Bebop takes on much darker tones.

If you have watched Cowboy Bebop and enjoyed it you will more than likely enjoy Space Dandy. Space Dandy and Cowboy Bebop are very similar series with Space Dandy taking a lot of inspiration from Cowboy Bebop due to the fact that many people who worked on Cowboy Bebop had returned to help make this series.

Was the glorious space western that is Cowboy Bebop just a bit too dark and serious for you? Try out Space Dandy! Another brilliant work by Shinichirō Watanabe, it features the same awesome space-cowboy vibe that Bebop portrays but also includes some of the funniest and wackiest characters I've ever seen in an anime, as well as plenty of over-the-top action and ridiculous scenarios.

It's basically if Cowboy Bebop was a weird and ridiculous comedy

Cowboy Bebop rebels in it's 90s aesthetics, trough the lines, the shadings, the shapes, the colors and other aspects of the animation, making for an experience that mimics extremely well the aesthetic of many shows that where released around the time. Space Dandy is similar in the way it's animated and structured to reflect the style of the shows that would come out around the same time, Space Dandy being more experimental and exaggerated to be on par with the theme. Both are a good guide to understand what's going on in the world of anime surrounding their release.

Fun side of Cowboy Bebop still presented with philosophy of Watanabe and great music of Yoko Kanno. Make sure to watch the ova2 which has Bebop reference!

I always felt that Space Dandy was a parody of Cowboy Bebop specifically. Maybe it's because they're both by Shinichiro Watanabe.
report Recommended by Cam1922
Great soundtracks, cool vibe. Follows bounty hunters in space. Space Dandy doesn't have continuity between episodes though and leans more towards outright silliness and pure fun.
report Recommended by bhijml
Space bounty hunters (similar to each other as cowboys) and both share the same creative team!
report Recommended by gubeyVS
If you were a fan of the wackier comedic parts of Bebop and the premise of a bunch of dysfunctional and perpetually broke people trying to eke out a living as space bounty hunters (or close to it) with an episodic structure appeals to you you may like Space Dandy by the same series director or vice versa. Most Space Dandy episodes are stand alone stories with different directors and frequently very different art styles so if you don't like the first one or two that doesn't mean you won't like others (or vice versa) some episodes, some episodes looked disapointing others were genuinly stunning.   read more

If you enjoyed Cowboy Bebop and its cool vibes, you've gotta check out Space Dandy. It's from the same genius, Shinichiro Watanabe. While CB had that noir sci-fi thing going, Space Dandy goes bonkers in space with crazy humor and mind-blowing visuals. It's like a wild rollercoaster ride through the cosmos. If you liked the storytelling and characters in CB, Space Dandy will probably tickle your funny bone and keep you hooked. Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed! 🚀😄

cowboy bebop but more goofy

Both being directed by Shinchiro Watanabe, Space Dandy is essentially a parody of Bebop with all the soul of the original series and magnificent animation, comedy, and strong, STRONG feels.
report Recommended by mistaxfacta
Remember Andy from episode 22 of Cowboy Bebop? Well imagine if Andy the cowboy, became Dandy the disco alien hunter and had his own show. As you'd imagine the show has a rather comedic wacky tone. It feels almost like an anime written by Douglas Adams, though it still retains some noir elements with flashbacks here and there regarding Dandy's mysterious past. Despite the tone shift, the series retains many similarities with Bebop and Watanabe's (the director's) other works such as the aforementioned noir elements, direction, playing around with different genres from episode to episode, the episodic series with a loose hierarchical plot, etc.

Both anime involve the protagonists being bounter hunters that travel through Space. Space Dandy and Cowboy Bebop have a retro art style. In both series the characters are travelling through Space and encountering new planets, cultures, and a likable cast of side characters who join the MC. Space Dandy is a excellent reccomendation for any fan of Cowboy Bebop fan that would enjoy a more comedic take on space bounty hunting.
report Recommended by rohan121
Both are from the same Director. However this a precursor to Space Dandy. Both contain a future space setting. And both shows are episodic.
report Recommended by JustBaileyMay
The biggest similarity is that its both directed by Watanabe. Both Cowboy bebop and Space Dandy contains really awesome fight scenes, random episodes, and both have really good OST.
report Recommended by cheekyboiii
A light-hearted Cowboy Bebop with that a little romance in the second season (one episode)
report Recommended by JoeDaPotato
Both in a futuristic space setting where the main cast is a group of bounty hunters. It is pretty random like a lot of Cowboy Bebop's episodes and the crew is often dysfunctional where they always mess up and can never seem to get a bounty.
report Recommended by Salty_Boi
Both series are from the same director, both have fluid and unique animation, great soundtracks and has a similar setting, although Space Dandy is more focused on comedy.
report Recommended by rustycableguy
its from the same creator, but instead of being serious Dandy is just about a dandy man in space
report Recommended by SilverArroe
Both are episodic anime set in space. Both have a crew that gets larger as the anime progresses and have similar shenanigans aboard the main spaceship where the characters live. The crew in both earn a living by collecting bounties, but aren't too successful with doing that.
report Recommended by Eziprez
- Topical space adventures - Both have big emphasis on the music - Each series have incredibly unique characters with charm and personality
report Recommended by AwokenStroken
not super similar really, its a comedy that is centered around dandy a space bounty hunter. its made by the same people who made cowboy bebop and that why i said similar to but i think its a good time and you'll enjoy
report Recommended by SilentOni
Space Dandy is basically Cowboy Bebop on drugs. It has similar themes of a group in space all attempting to capture someone. They're also both directed by Shinichirō Watanabe.
report Recommended by CheesyJen
Both has space cowboys, bounty hunting, cool soundtrack and is futuristic.
report Recommended by ihatecelery
Both series take place in the same universe, with both series having amazing main characters and crews to go along with them.
report Recommended by bubba460z
It's almost obligatory. They're both made by the same people with a similar sort of style. Their plots are similar with both main characters being bounty hunters going on similar misadventures. And they have similar types of characters and writing styles
