Oof. If you're reading this and expecting anything short of a psychological thriller with horror and gore, I suggest you find something else to watch. This is for those not easily rattled and those who can watch rather gruesome... /events/. I recommend not watching this while in the presence of small children, the faint-hearted, in the dark, or while eating. Just a heads up.
Now, that being said, this isn't the mindless gore and violence that one would expect. In fact, it's more of a slow and methodical sort of fear that it induces in you. The storyline (which I will not elaborate upon, because
...
spoiling something as good as this is definitely a sin) is one big puzzle for the viewer to solve. There are cliffhangers and unexplained ideas simply waiting for you to connect the dots. One of the things I love about this show is that it never spoonfeeds you anything. It simply shows you bits and pieces of a story and leaves it up to you to interpret. All in all, it's a masterpiece in how it's written and told. I suggest binging this in one go if you want to understand it fully.
The first time I watched this, I nearly stopped because I hated the animation. I have to say that even as I just finished binging it, I've gotten more used to it but a lot of the time I didn't like it. However... when the show delved into more of a sinister feel, I began to appreciate the way the characters were drawn. It gave almost a Madoka Magica sort of feel in the beginning (tho I really despise Madoka Magica) and quickly evolved into darkness. It fools you, and I liked that about it.
Oh, the music, where do I begin? The opening was phenomenal. The first time I heard it, shivers just crept down my spine. It's one of the few openings that I listened to all the way through every single episode. On top of that, the opening gives a lot of foreshadowing about the plot itself, but it doesn't make itself apparent other than in hindsight. Watching the opening again after finishing the show was a terrifyingly enlightening experience. The closing was also very soft and soothing, which was a nice way to stop being completely terrified after the actual show ended every episode. That being said, I did rather despise some of the voice actors. Shion's was good, for example, but Rena's and Rika's really pissed me off (Though Rika's VA pulled off a very scary switch to serious later on).
In the beginning, I thought that the characters were somewhat cliched and annoying, mostly because it started off as somewhat of a harem school anime. However, as time went on, every single character was developed into a complete, round character. It was astounding, watching it as it happened. Characters that were once just flat tropes became terrifyingly deranged psychopaths, yet it was impossible to hate them at all.
I enjoyed this way too much to be able to express in words. What does that say about my mental state? :D Either way, I've been in somewhat of an anime slump for weeks (and I haven't seen a REAL horror anime in years) but this got me completely back into it.
I would recommend this if you: liked Another, like psychological horror, like the line between deranged and paranormal, like mysteries, like plot twists, enjoy psychotic characters, like the 'cute' trick premise of Madoka Magica, like gore
I would NOT recommend this if you: are easily scared, don't like horror, don't like psychological thrillers, can't stomach gore, like your characters as a blank slate of good or evil, are expecting a plot to be handed to you, want to sleep at night
Have a great day everyone!

This review is for anyone who has seen the original series before the original. On the insistence of a friend, I binged the new series. I became addicted and went back to finish the originals, and here I am. All I have to say is: if you're here after watching the original series and liking it, you're not going to be disappointed.
The Yorknew/Phantom Troupe Arc is easily one of my faves, so perhaps this is a little biased. However, it's hard to refute the fact that the plot is anything but well-written. The story is structured in a genius way where all logic is
...
addressed and cleverly worked around without overpowering any character or group. Everything is painfully realistic, making any victory by the protagonist even more satisfying. In addition, it's fast-pasted enough that it's captivating but not so fast that it's difficult to follow.
On the other hand, the art has clearly evolved since this was made, but it's not like the art takes anything away. It's easily evident how much effort was put in into animating this OVA; it's apparent in every aspect, really. There were some moments that took my breath away despite it being old and 'grainy' animation as some refer to it.
The background music is all very impressive, but I wasn't a very big fan of the opening. In fact, I personally feel like it took away from the profound and vengeful feel of this arc.
Oh boy, the characters are easily some of the best I've seen in anime. They are complex with varying sides to their personalities, flaws, and strengths that make them feel like real people. Even if you have seen the reboot, this is still a must-watch. I, for one, will never get tired of seeing Kurapika's efforts come to fruition as he takes out his anger. Especially with the complexity of his character, it's really a spectacle to see.
Overall, you will not regret watching this, even if the reboot is adapted almost exactly. It's a phenomenal series without a single dull moment.
I would recommend this if you: are a Chrollo/Phantom Troupe/Kurapika junkie (me), like intricate revenge plots, like the original HXH, liked the HxH reboot, liked the York New/Phantom Troupe Arc
I would NOT recommend this if you: dislike Chrollo/Phantom Troupe/Kurapika, don't like any of the other HxH adaptions or arcs, don't like the Yorknew/Phantom Troupe Arc
Have a great day everyone!

I was... not expecting this at all. Having seen some yaoi before, I've rarely come across any that's realistic or relevant. Most of the time, it's a little strange, makes no sense, and is more than a little heteronormative and it makes me a little annoyed. In this case, I think that they managed to portray it in such a beautiful way that even if you're not a fan of the yaoi genre, you'll be able to enjoy this as an amazing romance on its own.
To begin with, the story is split into multiple pieces as seasons. It's very poetic and has a slow,
...
realistic pace. There isn't as much sexual assault as yaois usually have, which is a relief. Other than that, it's also very sweet and builds up naturally. Not for a moment did I feel this was undoable in any way. The whole time, I actually felt like the characters had chemistry as well. The problems they faced together were very true to life.
I've seen some people complain about the art, and when I first saw it, I had a similar opinion, but watching the whole thing, I've been charmed by it. It's a strange style for sure that I've never really seen before, but at the same time, it's very fluid and soft, much like the story itself. I think it really matches the flow of the story.
Most of the time, I'm not really impressed by the music, but the background music and the closing song are both gorgeous. I could just listen to the plain instrumentals all day long. This was so calming to listen to.
Gosh, the characters were masterpieces. They weren't heteronormative sexual assaulters and the plot wasn't spent mostly on the seme-uke dynamic and claiming that they definitely weren't gay. There was acceptance, there was romance, there was conflict, there was chemistry. What more can we ask for?
I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. It's a perfect movie to watch with a significant other or even alone on a rainy day. It's adorable, it made me squeal and smile and also nearly cry. But I'm a little bit of a crybaby so I don't know if the crying will apply to everyone. :)
I would recommend this if you: like romance movies, dislike heteronormativity, dislike the classic yaoi tropes, want to watch something short on a rainy afternoon, want a cute date movie, want to smile like an idiot for an hour
I would NOT recommend this if you: like classic yaoi tropes, are expecting smutty stuff, like the seme-uke structure, don't like romances
Have a great day everyone!

As someone who is not an animal person and definitely more of a dog person than a cat person, this anime didn't hit as many heartstrings as it did for others. That being said, if you're like me and are thinking about watching this, stick around and read this review.
I watched this on the recommendation of a friend of mine, and I have to admit that it is somewhat a masterpiece of short anime. That being said, I don't think I was the target audience, so while it was objectively very good, I didn't enjoy it as much as I think I should've.
First
...
off, the story is very simple and meaningful in how simple it is. It's about the flow or nature and the life of an unnamed girl, simply put. That's all it is. And in that, somehow it's still somehow interesting.
The art is just outstanding, hands down. There's nothing else to be said about that.
Most of the time, we just hear our dear cat main character speaking, and he has somewhat of an ASMR voice, so he's nice to listen to. In all honesty though, the closing and opening music is also very relaxing. This is very good to binge quickly on a rainy afternoon.
However, the characters are where this shines-- the entire show is centered around them; mostly 'she' and her cat. Since it's a short show, I won't go too much into depth lest I spoil it, but the show gives a startling amount of character to both people and makes it a very entertaining watch.
That being said, I didn't enjoy it as much as other people did because I'm simply not an animal person or a cat person and it didn't really connect to me for me to feel any real emotions about it. However, this is objectively a very good show and I think everyone should at least give it a shot.
I would recommend this if: you like cats, you like animals in general, you like short shows, you like stuff that's wholesome and adorable
I would NOT recommend this if: you're expecting a ton of plot, you don't like animals or cats in general
Have a great day everyone!

If you have watched the new 148 episode series and are here, then this is the review you need to read.
Personally, I love my shounen but I'm not an obsessee by any rate. I love dabbling in all the genres, and when shounen gets 'too' shounen I usually get sick of it. I liked the 'new' series because it balanced plot with fight scenes and emotions and was overall very interesting and fun to watch, in addition to being pretty easy to binge.
That being said, I watched this series because I usually like watching all versions and related things to a franchise once
...
I start it. While that was my only reason at the time, I have realized that the original is somewhat of a hidden gem for anyone who liked the original. So if you're a hardcore fan of the manga or the new HxH, you're in the right place.
In means of the plot, the show covers everything the new show covers, and it seems to be very faithful to the same strict plot. There are a few things (like an extra stage/different stage in the Hunter Exam, a few extra interactions or happenings that didn't happen in the new one) but more or less even the exact lines are almost the same.
The art is the main difference, mostly because it's an older anime. However, they put a lot of work into it and you can tell. It's not grating on the eyes at all; it's actually a very smooth watch if you can get used to it in the first few episodes.
As for the sound, other than the closing and opening music, there isn't a lot since there aren't even full 'classic' anime openings or closings. It's more of a jingle if you ask me. The background music suits everything really well and the show ends the last episode with a very long song and montage, which was all very nice. The voice actors were mostly good at their jobs. I was a little put off by Gon's English dub actor because I felt like everything was a little forced, and this applied to some other actors as well, but mostly it was tolerable. Old English dubs really aren't the best.
The characters, on the other hand, I feel like this is where this series shines in comparison to the newer one. Somehow, they managed to show nuances of the characters that I didn't really watch in the new show. It's genius in its simplicity that conveys so much.
Overall, I enjoyed this a lot. Some parts feel a little draggy if you've already read the manga or watched the newer series because it follows it so faithfully it may just feel like you're rewatching. But if you just want to see HxH again, I would definitely recommend just watching this for a taste of something new yet old at the same time. :)
I would recommend this if: you enjoyed the new series, you like 'vintage' things, you like classic shounen
I would NOT recommend this if: you didn't enjoy the new series, you don't like 'old' animation, you can't stand old English dub voices (unless you can find a sub; I couldn't)
Have a great day everyone!

To begin with, I have to say that I found this on a recommendation. I am by no means a cat person, or an animal person at that, but since it was so short, I decided to give it a try.
Honestly, this is less of a typical anime but more of a quiet retrospective work to watch a few minutes before bedtime or what you're feeling down and worthless. Trust me, especially if you have a pet, this will cheer you up. Since it's only a few minutes long, I won't go too in depth about the content so I won't spoil it, but
...
it's simply a cat's thoughts about his owner. There's something simple and beautiful about it.
I've seen some people complain about the art, but in all honesty, I found the black and white simplicity to be quite pretty, along with the almost stop-motiony animation.
Since I watched a fandub after not being able to find a sub or an official dub, the sound really wasn't my favorite part of it all, but I am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt since it wasn't the original work. I managed to look at non-english subs and I found the original Japanese to be quite soothing to listen to, almost like ASMR.
The characters are a little ambiguous, and I liked that about it. It could almost be about anyone, anywhere. It was simple and beautiful.
Overall, though I did enjoy it, as person who isn't really a pet person, I didn't get all feelzy like many others did over it. It was just simply a thought process for me.
I would recommend this if: you own a pet, you like cats, you own a cat, you like short (really short) anime, you get feelz over fluffballs, you are feeling down and need something to make you feel better
I would NOT recommend this if: you are looking for something super philosophical or deep, you're not a pet/animal person, you hate cats
Have a great day everyone!

In all honesty, this is one of the least problematic yaoi series I've read as of now, even if it's still twisted as it is. The reason I still like it though is because instead of being heteronormative and misleading about being gay, it openly accepts that a gay relationship is a relationship between two men, not a man who acts like an overly submissive man and an overly abusively agressive alpha man.
With all that out of the way, the only messed up parts of the story are left in the human nature of the characters, which I found to be very natural so
...
I liked that. I will say straight up that I wasn't a massive fan of this series-- but it was a personal preference of not being into the plot all the much. The manga itself was objectively well done. Let's go into the specifics.
The story was pretty standard. I won't spoil anything, but it's about repressed sexual feelings and people's natures and how different they are from eachother. Does it have cliche moments? Yes. But is it realistic about human nature? Definitely. That's why I liked how the story was handled-- it was very real.
In addition, the art was very clean, realistic, and well-done. Nothing like usual yaoi or shoujo where the semes look like slenderman. In fact, there was none of the 'seme' or 'uke' stereotypes going on in the art either. At first glance (or even as you read into it) it's pretty hard to tell, and I adored that aespect.
As for the characters, I personally didn't like them all that much (again, you may-- it's just that I'm not a big fan of people who cheat, really) so I was a little biased against them. They were written well, just not my style and I frequently found myself a little annoyed with them or questioning their motivations.
I enjoyed this manga enough to get through it fairly quickly. It wasn't overly super impressive except that it doesn't rely on heternormativity and isn't all rainbows and flowers. Those two points really sealed it as 'good' for me.
I would recommend this if you: like realistic love stories, like reading about human depravity, like short mangas, like well-drawn mangas, don't like stereotypes, are sick of seme/uke dynamics, dislike heteronormativity in gay relationships/media
I would NOT recommend this if you: like the seme/uke structure, are expecting a ton of full-on smut immediately, like indisputably happy relationships/endings
Have a great day everyone!

This was... an experience. If you're expecting a sports anime, it's probably time for you to leave, because this is definitely not what you're looking for. This was a mess-- a good mess-- but a mess nonetheless. I'm gonna unravel what happened in this series for the people who are on the fence about watching this.
First off, I started watching this show because I saw a clip of a cute scene from around episode 8-ish on youtube, and expected the whole show to be somewhat similar. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case, but it wasn't all bad either.
To begin with, the plot is a strange,
...
strange thing. I have never played or been interested in watching soccer, so I expected to be bored. However, there is strangely little actual soccer content. While it does have some aspects of a sports anime, I think it's very little and a little inaccurate. Overall, it does a better job as an episodic comedy with a few running gags. It wasn't exactly my style of humor, but I enjoyed it somewhat still. In addition to a comedy, it's almost partially Food Wars and has a few Ouran High School Host Club-style jokes tied in. Overall, it's not a bad plot, but it's not really overarching and doesn't make a lot of sense a lot of the time.
Hands down, this is some of the most beautifully simple animation I've seen in a while. I watched this after watching a lot of shoujos and old anime, so maybe it impacted me more than I thought, but every character is honestly so beautiful. The backgrounds are done with great precision and everything seems pretty realistic, in all honesty, despite being anime. In addition, some of the water/sports graphics in general were honestly so well done that I rewound to watch it again. It was also one of the main reasons I wanted to watch the show in the first place.
The soundtracks were honestly nothing special. All of them were pretty forgettable except the closing, which was supposed to be somewhat of a parody.
Despite the series being named after him, Aoyama himself is not very interesting other than his being mysterious. He is pretty much perfect in everything. The only time we see any character in him is through his video game avatar where is isn't limited by his crippling fear of germs. Other than that, he hardly shows any real human feelings. On the other hand, some of the other characters were honestly pretty fun and unique, but none enough so that they stand out from the crowd of millions of other anime characters. Overall, pretty humdrum as far as that goes.
This anime isn't bad. I'll say that upright. At the same time, in my standards, it wasn't all that good either. It was honestly pretty lukewarm. I enjoyed it enough to get through it, but I probably will never watch it again.
I would recommend this if you: like perfect main characters, like sports anime bc of the hot guys, like running gags
I would NOT recommend this if you: are here bc you like soccer/serious sports anime, are expecting this to be about Aoyama's crippling germophobia (I mean it is, but not really dealing with the issue or getting him any help, is what I mean), like a lot of plot or character development
Have a great day everyone!

Please don't watch this. It's for your own good. Trust me.
I saw other reviews that started negatively and thought, "hey, a lot of people don't really get short episode anime. A lot of people don't like first person stuff. A lot of people don't like fanservicey guys." etc. etc. I didn't believe them. But please believe me. I went into this thinking I should give it a chance and that I might end up liking it. I came out with something strange that made me uncomfortable and unmotivated to watch any anime as a whole.
The specifics? Let's begin with the 'story'. Simply put,
...
there is none. It's just a simple compilation of kinda ASMR with a bunch of random guys. Don't expect a plot. The little 'story' even introduced is just parts of the characters.
As for the art, some of it was decent, while other art just seemed a little creepy. There are strange closeups where the characters are just staring into your soul, and moments when you feel like the animators just got tired and threw something on the screen.
Sound was something I had a lot of problems with, especially when one of the episodes had a violinist. He tells the watcher he'll play an amazing song for them-- and then we're rewarded with a dramatic, silent still? And then he suddenly goes "Okay hope you liked it" or something of the sort. They didn't even invest in violin music, simply put. It was pretty pathetic. The opening was pretty strange too, on top of which there's a lot of shots with absolute silence as the character stares in random directions, and sometimes straight at you. It's a little unsettling.
The characters are the only thing there is an abundance of in this show, and needless to say, there was no development or reality about them. The stories of the characters don't make much sense sometimes, and a lot of the things they said came off as assaulty and creepy instead of romantic. On top of which, the characters were all just random stereotypes. (OH ALSO ONE OF THEM IS A CHILD. GROSS GUYS.)
I didn't enjoy this at all. I started it because I thought, "hey, it'll only take me less than an hour to get through it, right??" Theoretically, that's how long it took me to actually watch it, but I spent days trying to force myself to finish it because it was just that terrible with no chance of getting better.
I would recommend this if you: like Japanese ASMR and plan not to watch the screen and instead just listen to it (and you don't know Japanese)
I would NOT recommend this if you: are looking for something reverse-haremy, are expecting something hot or cute
If you want something like this but good, just go read a X Reader fanfic babe.
Have a great day everyone!

There's honestly nothing extremely remarkable about this, yet it's pretty good. If you're here after watching Gakuen Babysitters (believe me, I was in the same boat) then stick around for this.
To begin with, the story is nothing special. It's about a boy in a world with magical creatures and him and his friends have them as pets. That's literally it. There's tons of plot holes and unexplained phenomena and strange shit going on, but I tried by best to ignore all of that because of the sole reason that it's cute enough at times for me to enjoy that instead of complain. But sadly,
...
since plot kinda matters to me most of the time (unless the other elements are that overpowering) I kept thinking about the problems the story had instead of enjoying it. Perhaps that's a mistake on my own part.
The art is pretty simple, nothing special. In episode 8, there are a few creatures that are animated very well and the art is pretty cool, but other than that, everything is pretty flat and simple.
The opening and closing are both wholesome, but far too happy and cutesy for me to like them all that much. The voicing for the characters was alright, but I mostly really loved the sound effects and the noises from Mii and the other cute pets.
Overall, for character, there was nothing all that remarkable. I can barely remember the name of the main characters, and I just binged it before writing this review. I have to say that I like Tazuki tho... he's just my type :D Unfortunately, there's not really any character development for anybody but him-- not that I was expecting a mummy to have character development.
Now down to the general opinion about the show. All in all, I watched this for two reasons: 1) because I am a hardcore fan of Gakuen Babysitters, and 2) because I adore mummies... they simply just fascinate me. However, for people who are here for any of these two reasons, I have to tell you this: if you're here because you liked Gakuen Babysitters, there's still a chance you may dislike this. What sets Gakuen apart is the fact that it's about family connections and babies growing up, simply put. With Miira no Kaikata, the part of the show that was focused on togetherness and cuteness changes focus to mythical creatures predominantly. While there were some cute moments, I really didn't have as much of a reaction as I did to Gakuen.... it just wasn't cute enough for me. Perhaps it's because I'm not an animal person? I'm definitely a baby person. As for everyone who's here for liking mummies: honestly, just get out. It's got nothing to do with legitimate mummies. Enough said.
I would recommend this if you: are an animal person, like shows about mythical creatures, like shows about pets
I would NOT recommend this if you: are expecting as much cuteness as Gakuen Babysitters, don't like animals, can't stand plot holes
Have a great day everyone!
