Shinai naru Boku e Satsui wo Komete
add

Both have a overarching mystery and thrilling elements with many twists & explorations of humanity. Both rely on misguiding the readers perception and introduce each works genre to fresher ideas; being a psychological/murder mystery and death game it feels constantly unexpected despite following cliches. Only differing in setting and supporting characters.

Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru
add

Both are about finding meaning in your passion. Both share great elements of realistic character portrayals, albeit Ping Pong is a lot more grim and unforgiving. Both demonstrates the value of the passion and how it shapes a persons morals, values, worldview and relations. All the while being understanding of ones own limits and misgivings in pursuing an art/passion. Essentially, a sport anime that isnt about sports.

Redline
add

Both have bombastic, over-the-top action accompanied with stellar OST's. Both worlds are filled with a uplifting and feel-good ambiance. Incredibly irreverent and bold mech designs; Gurren Lagann its the gunmen and in Redline its the cars. Such contrived action but so woven beautifully you can't help get riled up and invested in the story. Creative, fast, action-packed, both take strides in their fantastic story telling and world development.

Both similarly evoke a subtle sense of sorrow and melancholy whilst being lightly comedic and mysterious; as our protagonist's wander towards the answer which defines their existence. As the story progresses hints of their world and history start to peer though. Both also have very immersive and well-detailed art.

Koukaku Kidoutai: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG
add

2nd GIG shares the same episodic and suspenseful thrill as Monster. 2nd GIG explores the geo-political structure of the near future with the birth of technology; the adverse affects, the positives, the philosophical questioning of individuality and god among a system of connected Shells. Whereas Monster is focused more on Johan and its characters; the product of an extreme case of true nihilism. A product of greed, desperation and kindness. Although different fundamentally regarding their topics and overall tone, both share great elements of story structure and presentation. Both have great music and can be considered a "non-battle" anime.

In the latter half of Clannad After Story specifically. Both anime follow an estranged protagonist with troubles stemming from their past. In Clannad the protagonist struggles from recent trauma; whereas Usage Drop's protagonist, volunteering as acting guardian for an ostracized child relative, finds love and purpose for his old melancholy chapter of life to bloom into something much more beautiful. Both focus on the idea of familiarity and love. All while having great comedic moments accompanying great emotional resonance.
