Heyo! I've seen you around on VGMdb too. Mostly on Sawano-related albums. What's up?

Kado was a really cool idea that having just seen The Arrival a month prior to when Kado began airing I was totally onboard with. I liked the show at first and I enjoyed the what if scenario it was going for and it's own tale about first contact. But towards the end it took a turn that I really didn't enjoy much. I understood the show had to end and it clearly wanted to do so with a bang rather than some interesting vision of humanity after first contact that it felt like it was building towards.

Its like Kado began asking questions but did little at having an attempt at answers, it didn't fully enjoy the sandbox it had created for itself and I think that is a real missed oppurtunity. Instead it told the same story by it's end that we've seen plenty of times before and unfortunately that just left it feeling pretty middle of the road. Kado is a show with some interesting ideas but lack conviction and instead reverted to a pretty safe and somewhat basic on it's surface story conclusion.

The animation was a mixed bag with completely unnecessary 3D character models for only a few members of the cast, kinda baffling really.

I'm mixed on the experience as a whole but it had enough cool moments that made it a good watch.

I watched it along time ago (5 years ago?) but MAL seperated the Episode 4 Special on to it's own so the TV series was listed as 13/12 episodes watched so I had to remark it hence why it's on my recent list now even though I haven't watched it for ages.

I remember wanting to really love the series and for awhile I did but overtime the show just didn't keep me that entertained at all, the story I found really badly executed or should I say from what I remember I wasn't able to keep on top of it. The characters also despite strong first impressions I think grated on me after while. So yeah I gave it a 4/10 back then so I've just left the score as is. If I were to ever watch it again I would be curious on whether or not it would have a better impression on me because shows similar to L/R are certainly some of my favorites.

Totally agree, I was so disappointed when episode 2 finished as I was just totally engrossed in it. I chose it because of the trailer and like you because it just looked cool and interesting but I'm not sure I was prepared for just how good it was going to be. I just hope the story can live up to the potential.

I'm more on a Takahashi binge, while also watching everything post-eva. You're the 5th to bring up Dr Strange to me in an hour time span and no, I haven't lol

I feel like Ryvius is a 6.5 for me, given just how stupid the reveals were and how much they deflate the entire situation, but I bumped it to a 7 out of respect for everything else it did right, namely, the way the treated the teen characters like actual teens, their organic chemistry with one another and for the 1st 16 episodes which properly portrays the slow descent of no solid supervision and government.
Betterman is terrible. After seeing all the appraisal it receives from people I trust in the community, to actually sit down and watch it and getting a mess in return was very disheartening.

Yeah I've heard he was under Takahashi's tutelage, which didn't amount to much later since I feel like Geass was a parody of the guy's prior works. I am glad he gifted us with good stuff before that though.

Good luck. Just approach it for some "LOLs" and you should enjoy it. Gasaraki is fucking incredible. The sociopolitical underpinnings and insane attention to detail for the mechs is just pure win. Takahashi is shaping up to become one of my favorite anime creators with BG and Gasaraki back to back.

I really loved Blue Gender. You don't really get a sense of dread like that very often, also the attention to detail in such minuscule things, like the armament and limited mobility under certain conditions was such a nice touch. It easily cracked a spot in my top 50.
Jesus, it's like what hot steamy sex would sound like lol

Brain Powered is like an autistic evangelion with dialogue that makes no sense and tomino literally trying to represent the other side of eva's themes. So where in Eva the parents were the mecha keeping the kids safe, in Brain, the mecha are like kids and the pilots are like doting parents looking after them. And with all mecha being named Brain as well as other weird naming choices, the dialogue is stupid as all hell. You'll have someone saying "give me back my brain, you'll have it over my dead body". And the villainous organization's name is Orphan lol So you have orphans running away from home XD I swear, it's trying to be "deep" but just becomes unintentionally funny. Kinda like how elfen lied thought it was deep but was more funny. Watch it dub, the voice acting is hilarious. Also, the CHEAPEST animated fights I've seen for any "eva clone" EVER. They literally just drag the mecha across the screen, no anatomical movement at all! And Kanno does the OST, so it sounds awesome while the battles look stupid as hell. It adds to the comedy factor. 2.5/10 realistically speaking. I pushed it to 3 for the pure amount of "LOLS".
