This is my safe-place. Most of the shows I like give me some sort of comfort. My favorite Anime use the potential of the medium to its fullest extent. Or they just give me the feels. In the case of Millennium Actress, my #1 spot, it's both.
I also prefer bright colors and expressive directing. Kyousogiga and The tale of the Princess Kaguya may be examples for this.
I get fascinated by good villains and I always yearn for new anime with great ones.
I read only a few manga yet, but there is no manga that comes close to After the Rain. I am excited to see if one day there will be one.
