I hope that Armed Fantasia of Penny Blood will come out at around my 36th birthday. Hopefully, AAA studios will stop with their recent antics next year. Meeting customer satisfaction is supposed to be their responsibility or forté. They are supposed to be working for us and their high-budget games have severely flopped so far.
More neo-western stuff would be great to see. I remember watching those beautiful animations in the Wild Arms 3 intro and more anime with those flawless, natural movements would be great to see. Those animations were way ahead of their time. Anime studios should have taken notes by now.
Other than that, Happy Halloween! 🙂
Now I'm excited for Black Friday, the holidays and Year of the Snake.
Regarding indie comics, I only got a few more issues of Copperhead left to read before I move on to Transmetropolitan and so on. Copperhead has been pretty interesting so far and I thank certain websites for those recommendations, especially Screenrant. Not that I'm expecting Lumberjanes to be intense, but it's good to know that there a indie comic potentially similar to underrated manga like Hyper Police (I sometimes watch the Pierrot anime in my sleep). Lumberjanes could be one of the most easygoing comics I'll ever read and I'm still surprised that it didn't get a movie adaptation. I've also been wanting to read Wanted for years and I think that one will put me at the edge of my seat as Screenrant may have suggested. A story about wandering outlaws would be great to delve into.
My supertomboyish millennial friend would gladly appreciate the birthday wishes, by the way. Mobile Suit Gundam:The Origin by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko is still a great improvement in narrative and art compared to that 1979 anime it was somewhat based on. I knew about that manga before said North Carolina semitomboy mentioned it to me. That old guy's character designs are beautiful and I'm one of the few people that appreciate his original manga called Venus Wars which has more beautiful characters (especially the women) than most 80s manga. That, Dominion Tank Police and Ghost in the Shell (is as old as I am) are some 80s manga at the top of my head. Yes, Dragon Ball and Hokuto no Ken as well.
Ah yes! I forgot that I still got more Flame of Recca volumes left to read, but it can wait. Definitely not as linear as some conventional manga so still enjoyable in battle shounen standards.
Yes milady, I'll be expecting a lot of loud noise.
My supertomboyish friend turned 39 on Thursday. She's a huge fan of sci-fi and psychological stuff.
I would give her every volume of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin on her birthday if I could.
Anyway Kyoko, I need to rest after taking ibuprofen.
The only indie comic book that I've been reading so far is Copperhead which is as space western as Outlaw Star or Trigun.
As you can see milady, space western is one of my absolute favorite genres.
I also look forward to reading Transmetropolitan and Scalped some time. After I finish my Devilman manga kick.
I agree that going from the original Devilman to Shin to Lady to Devilman Saga (think Batman Beyond but Devilman) to Violence Jack is the way to go.
Gantz was also some very interesting battle royale stuff. Imagine if your only chance to come back to life is participating in a dangerous game.
Fortunately for you I'm very patient and in good spirits overall. A response at an expected time wouldn't be a surprise at all.
I started playing Omega Boost for the first time after having that difficult Valkyrie Profile speedrun.
As a matter of fact, I can't wait to read Hakuryuu Legend after I'm done with Gantz and Ghost in the Shell. I also hope to read indie action comics by Year of the Snake which I expect to be our luckiest year.
Let's be real, Year of the Dragon so far isn't spectacular.
As you can see, my 35th birthday is coming next month or around Back To School Day. Would be nice to have you around for Back To School Day shopping, but my current residence is in central Mexico. IMO, it's a great time to go shopping, getting sketchbooks and mechanical pencils at great prices. While saving money for food.
My old home Marietta is getting close to the peach harvest. I grew up with that oak tree next door and I bet it's probably gone.
I also remember getting all that heat and humidity everyday there.
So yes, that's more or less the story of my life.
As for Star Ocean 2 or Second Evolution, it's been great and I also got Chisato as well as Opera recruited for sure before I defeated those 10 Wisemen more conveniently, the big bad villains. That head honcho Indalecio took me like seven attempts to defeat. In that seventh attempt, I had to take control of Chisato, use up skill points then kick his butt with normal attacks constantly to interrupt his spells that could easily annihilate my party. I also had to make the lead girl Rena focus on supporting my party before wiped out after Indalecio goes completely "Super Saiyan", SSJ3-style. FF9's Quale in a no equipment challenge took me close to 20 tries before victory.
Too bad that can't be done in Second Story R because Chisato got nerfed according to JRPG Youtubers.
Other than that, I'll get Ashton in another playthrough later. Second Story was one of the hardest RPGs I've ever played (weapon customization is more complicated than FF9; unable to craft Claude's ultimate weapon) and now I moved on to Valkyrie Profile. Known for having the same dub as Yu-Gi-Oh. Its got good, overall voice acting for a retro game aside from Jade Cocoon, a very cherishable classic with the Ghibli artwork.
Yes, that village girl Mahbu and Rukia have the exact same American voice. My little sister told me that she heard her voice in P3P while I playing God Eater. I then told her that her hearing was impeccable.
Aside from Silent Möbius QD, I'll be looking for the next best manga to read, even if it means finding one RAW (Japanese particles are harder with more inconsistent grammatical function than Southern Min). I'm also thinking of thinking of reading indie comics like Saga and Transmetropolitan. The kind of comics that disgruntled Star Wars and Warhammer fans would read since Disney aswell as GW left bad tastes in their mouths. Even Gundam is taking sci-fi loving customers away from big name western franchises.
Anyway, there are a few other Gundam games that aren't arcadey, but I forgot which ones someone mentioned in a Discord server. I'll find out for myself eventually.
I have yet to play Enshrouded too and Dragon's Crown is basically Odin Sphere, but in a medieval fantasy world. When I checked out the trailer, I saw so many boobs and voluptuous characters. Everyone knows that sex sells.
Other than that, Dragon's Crown is set in a medieval world as mentioned before, but filled with knights, wizards, and mythical creatures. May also include embarking on quests and exploring dungeons in search of treasure. That is, the usual dungeon crawling.
The game may feature beautiful hand-drawn artwork (exactly what Vanillaware does best), customizable characters, and cooperative multiplayer gameplay (I prefer single-player mostly). It's known for its intricate art style, engaging combat mechanics, and rich storytelling (that's to be expected for those that played Odin Sphere or Muramasa: The Demon Blade).
I'll definitely get into those two games. As soon as I complete Star Ocean 2, trying to recruit those annoying aliens in my party, Ernest (don't care) and his future wife Opera. Annoying because I can only recruit up to 8 party members and the game didn't tell me that I have to meet Ernest in the first castle after pressing square on Cross Castle very early. The game also suggested that if I recruit Aston, then I cannot get Opera at all. >_<
More frustrating than all the time I spent learning Japanese. At least Oxford tells me most of the things in Japanese that I need to know explicitly.
Doesn't even explain which party members are the strongest. Didn't even tell me explicitly when to recruit the awesome Chisato who obviously performs in battle better than most playable Star Ocean 2 characters. I have to recruit Chisato between getting some monster for transportation in Energy Nede and that mayor leaving his office.
As you can see, the most powerful Star Ocean 2 characters, seemingly god-tier, are the most difficult to recruit. Too bad nobody makes game guides that helpful or that detailed. Rena, Claude, Precis (the closest character to Rikku, being a robotics nerd like Iron Man or a gearhead), Días, Chisato and Opera are the only characters Star Ocean players need.
My shoujo loving friend from Oklahoma would definitely recruit Celine because she grew up with Pokémon and Megan Hollingshead in Second Story R. Even though mage characters are mid-tier and Noel, a mandatory character that won't ever leave your party, is only good for being a backup healer. Magic in Star Ocean 2 like in FFX was designed to be inferior to physical attacks. Magic in Ragnarok Online is OP and that's why magic ninjas always win in PVP. Magic in Ragnarok Online doesn't get damage restricted based on size like physical attacks.
ChatGPT still needs work and did not tell me that I have to meet Ernest that early in said first castle before competing in a fighting tournament where the main blondie Claude has to represent a weapons shop.
As for entertainment, I've been the Star Ocean 2 remake. Some semitomboy about my age told me that she loved the original Star Ocean 2 before she married a Chinese man. She told me that she grew up with it also.
I bet that same semitomboy watched that recent Gundam SEED movie without subtitles and she could definitely play JRPGs in their original language.
So far, particles have been the problem I had with Japanese, but I thank ChatGPT for additional assistance. I've gotten completely used to kanji by now after all that reading. Thank you Nihongodera! :)
Thanks to that site, I may get started with Mandarin.
Namco Bandai can't even make Gundam games as badass as Armored Core (From Software does a good job keeping war stories cryptic). I agree with that Vietnamese guy getting close to his 40s saying that Gundam games were too arcadey. Too bad the Unicorn game stayed in Japan, but I swear that I'll play that on some PS3 emulator plus I already know most Japanese at this point.
Other than Armed Fantasia being the new Wild Arms, Penny Blood will be the new Shadow Hearts. Yes, Shadow Hearts writers are into gothic stuff like Tim Burton. I remember Shadow Hearts Covenant being so dark like SMT, Parasite Eve (still planning on reading that novel) or From Software RPGs. But that's why Shadow Hearts writers are talented.
Yes Kyoko, I'll let you know if Visions of Mana will be that good. Probably the best Square JRPG in ages besides that Star Ocean 2 remake.
I also need to check out Dragon's Crown some time. I've been wanting to get my hands on that for about 11 years because I loved Odin Sphere.
Silent Möbius QD is great and I once thought that the protagonist Aoi Majikina was ice cold, but now she's cool. Yuna Koito is also one of my favorites in this manga, always together.
As for video games, I hope that this Visions of Mana could entertain me long enough before Armed Fantasia comes out.
