I agree, After Story really lives up to its name, complimenting the original series with the story that we don't see in your average SoL series. And it handled it really well for the most part until it started to delve into the drama (imo). I didn't really understand the supernatural elements of the ending though. What are your thoughts on that part specifically? Personally I feel that it demeaned all of the realistic moments of family and hardship, also taking away from the emotional developments from concepts such as death and Tomoya's remorse. Maybe if I have a better understanding of the supernatural elements, I would be able to appreciate the meaning behind the entire series.

Hey, just finished Clannad: After Story. I really enjoyed the slice of life side of it; it's the type that incorporates a large array of characters and intertwines their backstories, which is just really good writing in my opinion. However, the drama really didn't click with me, especially the ending. I also was upset with how redundant the soundtrack felt, despite the fact that most of the music in Clannad/AS would top my list for best OST and ending song of the year. Ah... Dango Daiakzoku is one of my favourite endings of all time at this point; it's a shame that they replaced it in the After Story.

In the first season, I found that the arcs were more focused on the "main characters", and were heartwarming because they all reflected facets of Tomoya. Kotomi's past with him for example is an excellent contrast to the snarky exterior he displays on the surface; we got to see how Tomoya was actually dissatisfied with himself for failing to "save" another person, and this facet of him remained during After Story when he claimed that he should have never met Nagisa, for her sake. Really good stuff! Also, Akio's one-on-one discussion with Tomoya in S1 was great buildup to the final episode. It established the fact that him and Sanae never gave up on their dreams early on, and also acted as such a beautiful transition into his speech during Nagisa's performance as the "girl in the other world". I could feel the importance of family at that stage.

Those are my thoughts. I was just wondering what part of Clannad you enjoy most?
