The slice of live/comedy part of Taisou Zamurai reminded me a lot of Tamako Market. Maybe the initial reason why I thought of Tamako Market is because in both anime there appears a very strange bird, that seems to be a symbol or even the cause of some weirdness. It's this cozy, lighthearted weirdness that Taisou Zamuraiand Tamako Market have in common. The weird elements might be just stupid unrealistic stuff for some but to me it made both anime very special und fun to watch, along with the lovable characters, that both anime also have in common. I can think of other anime with the same king of weirdness like Penguindrum, Tsuritama or Sarazanmai. But in all of these the strangeness is more like the core of the story whereas in Tamako Market and Taisou Zamurai it's more like a little extra spice in a heartwarming slice of live/sports story. To make it short: - heartwarming, cozy, lighthearted - lovable characters - a little bit of unrealistic weirdness - a strange bird - slice of live part

Kabukichou Sherlock

After the first episode of "Kabukichou Sherlock" I looked if "Ace Attorney" maybe had the same director or if both were adaptations of the same kind of game or something else like that, because they seemed so simular. I couldn't find anything but watching more episodes they seemed even more simular. Both have interesting mystery cases with an overall story, starting of throwing a newby in. The characters and their deisgn are rather mature and there is the same kind of humor with silly names, gay characters, etc... At times both seemed to be made with a female audience in mind.

They are both anime about a creative group of rather unusual girls. I think they are interesting/ intended for the same kind of people, that want to see how female characters come out of their shell and do something that amazes other people. For me, both needed some time to grow on me.

Both are mature prequel stories for long-running, more fun-oriented anime. They both have romance and tragedy and are set in an historical setting. The tone in Rurouni Kenshin/ Samurai X in general is a more serious and Fox Spirit Matchmaker is a chinese prduction, that also has supernatural elements. So they are also rather different but I found them to be the hidden gems that sparkel in the same way in otherwise more generic (sorry to the fans, I don't think at all that they are bad) series.

Both are samurai stories for a mature audience. Both have mixed other elements into the historical content that make the events in the story seem heavier or lighter. I liked the touch of sophisticatedness of both, but there are also cool flights and characters and people that are more into these parts will also like both anime. Art is also good in both.

They are both set in an historical fantasy world. In both a strong girl character marries a ruler she is not interested in. I guess both are a girls-guilty-pleasure kind of anime and were a lot of fun to me.

Both have simple but deep stories about the daily lifes of women made by different directors for each episode. "Otona Joshi no Anime Time" has completely different stories whereas "Near Death!! Ekoda-chan" super short episodes are based on the same manga. The artstyles are extremely unusual and more appealing for arty people I guess. They vary from episode to episode. I really think someone who likes one of them could be interested in the other one since they are rare finds of anime about/for grown up and a little bit weird women.

SSSS.Gridman
add

This might be far-fetched but watching SSSS.Gridman reminded me of Punch Line because for both I expected action and got very inteligent mystery. At first glance their plot seems very generic, shounen-oriented and normal but turns out to be much more inteligent and interesting. In both anime a boy finds himself in a puzzling situation and has to save the world. Both have high quality animation, with art that is a little bit unusual.

Overall SSSS.Gridman makes much more sense than FLCL but it shows tendencies of the same craziness and oversteps some borders that standart anime don't touch. Both have an inteligent plot, that is fun to analyse, talk about and read stuff into it. Both have high quality animation, that tends to be a little bit arty. The characters are teens, and there problems are handelt in an metaphoric way. Both have mecha and well done fights.

Character-wise and dialog-wise and teenage-problem-connected-with-some-supernatural-stuff-theme-wise there are many anime out there that are more like "Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai" but - BUT - I got an almost mystical feeling from "Clannad" and I got a little bit of the same feeling from "Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai", so I think the reason, why both anime are so popular is made of the same essence and if you liked one I recommend to watch the other to maybe find this essence again.

If you like Merc Storia, chances are that you'll love Mahoujin Guru Gure, where another cute male/female pair sets out to a heartwarming fantasy adventure on which the grow by helping different people. Both anime are fluffy, a little bit on the episodic side but with unforced character grows. They have cute art and over all a surprisingly similar concept. Mahoujin Guru Gure also has some funny parody of jrpg games and a more complete story, what made it more enjoyable for me.

Obviously both anime are of the rare space opera species. They are both not to easy to get into, Ginga Sengoku Gunyuuden Rai because of the bad English subtitles and Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu because of the old and unuasal art and seriousness. The narrative style is more or less the same. The battles are simular, with more interesting tactics in Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu. Both handle moral aspects of war, which are a lot deeper and more detailed in Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu. Both have some romance one the side. The worlds of the animes are in space but with a lot of historic elements, Ginga Sengoku Gunyuuden Rai with chinese elements and Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu with French Louis the XIV stuff. Ginga Sengoku Gunyuuden Rai sure is a nice space opera but Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu is epic. If you wan't to watch just one I would recommend Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu, also it takes much more time to watch it. But if you allready watched one and want something simular, make sure to give the other one a try.

For someone who likes fantasy adventures that involve magic and warring kingdoms both anime are a good choice. For people that aren't to fond of this genre, they may still grow on you, because of some characters, the mature themes or the story twists. But be warned they are also simular in their bad points like pasting and to many characters.

Both are shounen anime about fighting demons. The characters learn to fight demons at a special school, with more experienced fighters on their side. Also the art is cute/colorful, the stories are rather serious. I found both of them entertaining because in both anime there are some characters that reveal another side of them at some point. The mystery, the fights and the humor were also nice.

Bakemonogatari
add

To me it feels like Bakemonogatari evolved from Kanon. Storywise both anime can be summarized as follows: A guy helps a bunch of girls with supernatural problems. Both male main characters are nice, a little bit saracastic and enjoy making jokes with girls, what leads to interesting dialogs. Also Kanon does many things well, like giving each girl enough time for her story without blending out the others, Bakemonogatari has the more interesting art, the much more interesting girls (sadly the Kanon-girls sometimes seem to be close to be mentally ill) and the more developed dialogs. On the other hand Kanon is much less challenging to watch. Still, if you boil things down, I think the animes are simular and many peaople that enjoy one of them will find the other one interesting to watch.
