My rationalization of every numerical score I can give:
- 10/10: My all-time favorites. Stuff which sets the standard by which I judge all other anime. These shows are all-around fantastic and probably appeal to me on a conceptual level. Any flaws they contain aren't enough to prevent me from whole-heartedly enjoying the experience.
- 9/10: My lower-tier favorites. These may have problems that I think detract from the experience or may not appeal to me as much as a 10/10, but I still hold a great deal of love and affection for all the anime I give this score.
- 8/10: Great stuff I'd recommend most people give a shot. I'll probably revisit the shows I give this score or higher at some point, and, if it's available for a decent price, I'll buy it on DVD or Blu-ray if I haven't already.
- 7/10: Good shows I enjoyed all the way through, or otherwise great shows that are held back by a number of flaws. I'd be willing to watch these again, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to do so. I won't usually purchase things of this rating or lower unless it's for the sake of completionism.
- 6/10: Anime that have a lot of flaws or just aren't that interesting, but which I still enjoyed enough to consider being worth my time. Highly unlikely I'll ever want to rewatch one of these. Also a place for cool short films that are worth watching but might not have a whole lot to get attached to.
- 5/10: If I give something this score, I can't say I enjoyed it overall, but I also don't dislike it in any significant capacity. For most shows I give this score, either I found it watchable but unremarkable or the good and bad mostly balanced each other out.
- 4/10: Anime that actively fail in ways that keep me from enjoying the experience. These shows have enough strong points that I wasn't overly bored, and I might have even found myself enjoying some parts, but they still didn't hit the mark for me. These usually could have been salvaged had the writing or presentation been stronger.
- 3/10: Shows that are trashy and/or boring but have some redeeming qualities, whether that be interesting ideas, a certain character, or great animation and music. These anime still have some things to enjoy, but they're starting to have real trouble keeping my attention.
- 2/10: Shows that have little to no redeeming qualities, or that made big enough mistakes to make me hate them by the end. Any strengths that they do have don't matter enough to improve the overall experience. At this score, I'm either very bored or actively resenting the show.
- 1/10: Shows that manage to deeply offend me, are broken on some fundamental level, are insufferably boring, or some unholy combination of the three. I'd recommend all but the most morbidly curious of people avoid these.
