Odd Taxi
|
The first rather obvious point is the character designs in both these shows are animals, and animated with a flat style. If you liked Michiru stumbling into the underlying crime/mystery in Anima City from BNA, you'd like Odd Taxi. Like Anima City, Odd Taxi has more realistic crime mystery just in the background which the main character is trying to stay out of. BNA leans more into action and melodrama, while Odd Taxi leans into wry humor mystery.

Though Ed is a human who recently left earth and NieA is an alien living in a small town they are very similar characters. They have a similar character design and move in the same loose not as realistic manner. They both kinda just do what they want to and think is fun; in contrast to a more serious grounded cast. Both Ed and NieA insert themselves into the lives of their other castmates. NieA just by deciding to live in Mayu's closet and Ed by tricking then blackmailing the crew of the Bebop.

Both these shows start out in a scifi desert/wildwest setting. They start out with similar wacky outlandish episodic episodes. Vash and Philly the kid are both immortals with bounties on their heads traveling from town to town unable to avoid trouble. They are also trailed by two female/(female-voiced robot) companions whom they initially view as pain but later regard more as friends.

They both are set in the same time period. They portray a very dark and violent view of this era and boost fantastic fights. The main characters of both series seem to have a similar dynamic with a more talkative 10 year old boy and a quieter badass. Both shows also involve one of the duo being sacrificed to a demon. In Sword of the Stanger, No Name is protecting the kid from being sacrificed, while in Dororo, Hyakkimaru has already been sacrificed.

This series contains similar WTF factors as FLCL. It follows a boy living with an alien maid and giant cat who is his sensie, no explanation given, no explanation given. But then bizarre giant "alien things" appear along with 7 sentai soldiers to fight them. Souya is then bribed into fighting them by his housemates with the prospect of eating meat. Which he does in spite of not knowing which of these three sides is the right one. This is similar to how Noata is manipulated by Haruka in FLCL. Neither of them knows or even cares that much about what is right or wrong instead they are manipulated by the crazy adults in their lives.

Both of these stories involve characters who know they are fictional and interact with their authors in the anime. In this sense both stories are very meta, being a narrative about narrative. In Princess Tutu the characters are fighting against their author, Drocelmeyer to change the story from being a tragedy. In Re:Creators the cast is much larger and have varied opinions and relationships with their authors from antagonistic to familial.

Both involve assassin's trying to figure out a mystery in their past and fighting other assassins. Contractors technically aren't always assassins but act like it a lot. Hei and Noir are both such skilled assassins they are compared to grim reapers. In both the antagonist is a larger organizations, the Syndicate and the Soldats, which seem to manipulate everything behind the scenes. The strength of both are definitely the great fight choreography and soundtracks. Weaknesses in both could be considered the plot and characters. But if that didn't bother you one it hopefully won't in the other.

Great huge cast all bouncing off of each other trying to not destroy or destroy the city!

Okay this one is a kinda strange bridge that I didn't realized previously, but both are about fantasy characters summoned to the real world and having to deal with the consequences of how the real world effects them. They're very different in tone. Re:Creators is a drama battle, while Devil is a Part-Timer is a fall from grace comedy. Emy and Selestia also have kinda similar character design, but Selestia luckily definitely isn't a tsudere.

One of the main character for Re:Creators, Selestia is loosely based off Asuna from SAO. Re:Creators is a brilliant battle between copyright safe versions of anime characters from different genre. Its awesome. Selestia has a true fantasy backstory and is more mature than Asuna. But if you loved Asuna and want to see a show where her character type really shines check out RE:Creators and if you somehow haven't seen SAO and want to know Setsuna's base character watch the first half of SAO.

These both are school comedies with sweet characters who are good people and you cheer for. The comedies both revolves around a single character flaw of the main characters, Akko is enthusiastic but lacks any talent, and as the title says Tanaka is alway listless.
