_SHORT POINTS:
+Somewhat interesting, but mostly only at the beginning
- Repeatable plot
- Heavily unlogical supernatural staff
- Generic characters
- Characters make questionable actions
- Somewhat abrupt ending ("go watch the movie" i guess)
- Not really about bunny girls (not necessary a bad thing - but that title and poster look like a weird lie)
...
_LONG REVIEW: (minor, non-direct spoilers may be present, nothing important)
I like good dramas and romance. Also deep, touching, emotional shows. Those only have effect if their intimate essence feels realistic. In this show, almost everything feels fake and hollow, it only tryes to lure with its shell.
First few episodes were interesting: kinda good main hero, interesting girl and her big problem. Everything starts falling apart after this first big problem was solved.
_STORY_ and world setting: 3
Main flaw of this anime is its very weak plot. Show uses Supernatural things in order to shape all directions of the plot, and this seems to be quite dumb. Why? It feels like magic is responsible for most of the stuff happening. Like some kind of god sends curses and punishement on some characters, and than just uplifts them when those characters do something "rightful", what god expects them to do. That's how story feels through the entire anime
In their core, supernatural things here are just heavy versions of psychological traumas. Those happen constantly to a girls around the main hero, this happens a bit to main hero himself and... seems like noone else is affected, or ever was (there are small "rumors" in the internet about this, that's all).
Of course adults or doctors don't believe in any supernatural staff. Show itself calls this "puberty syndrome" and if you think into it at least a little - this spooky things that happen to main cast should be happening EVERYWHERE - as there are a lot of teenagers with emotional problems around. This makes show extremely unrealistic, when talking about world setting - as everything only happens around main hero, like he is the chosen one.
Characters, however, always try to explain those supernatural phenomena with realistic logic and science terminology (here goes Schrödinger's cat, again). Most of the time, this feels unnecesary and cringe (this staff can't be really explained like that, better to not even try)
Basic scheme for plot in this anime:
1) Supernatural staff happens to a character
2) It appears this character has some sort of psychological problem.
3) Main hero helps with fixing those psychological problems
4) After some sort of catharsis - supernatural staff dissapears.
This makes it so that Supernatural things only exist to make more cheap drama. Psychological problems are the main point of this show - and they are weirdly adressed as a result.
Another big reason on whats wrong with the plot:
Supernatural dramas take a large chunk of this show's suspense. As most of them feel fake - there is not much more left in this show without them
Also, characters sometimes do useless\dumb actions. Or do nothing when they clearly should.
The icing on the cake is how supernatural drama forcefully moves plot in planned direction. First girl ended up speaking with main hero just because of his magical uniqueness, and her psychological problem ended up having positive outcome just because of supernatural staff happening in a good way
IN SHORT: plot feels forced, characters do what they must and supernatural phenomena corrects all the bumps on the way.
_ART_: 7
Art was nice, but nothing special.
_SOUND_: 6
I mostly didn't noticed music, but somehow disliked both opening and ending tracks. This is a rare case when i clearly dislike opening...
_CHARACTERS_: 4
Characters there aren't too bad, but they also aren't good. They are boring(
At start of the show i liked most, but with each episode i started to dislike them more and more.
1) Main hero - Sakuta - at the end of the day, he feels like typical perfect character. Compared to shonens where such characters usually are superstrong, Sakuta is only a bit more simple: he is unemotional on the outside (which makes him cool and masculine), but is very good (rushes to help everyone), and, apparently, very smart. He often walks without shirt near girls. The more show went on - the more perfect he became. I know some people like such characters, but for me he turned out to be boring and robotic, and none of his perverted jokes helped this(
2) Main girl - Mai - i'm not really sure what to think about her. She constantly appears on the screen, but outside of arcs where she was the main problem - she wasn't really all that useful. You constantly expect her to burst with anger because of Sakuta running who knows where - but it never happens. She ends up being just supportive and chearing girl, without actually looking like one. Weird.
I must note that Senjougahara from Bakemonogatari has practically same energy as this Mai - but feels much more convincing and better executed.
3) Smart girl - Futaba. She is the one who helps main hero with brainy staff and she is the one who tries to find logical explanation of whats happening. She has nice calm temper and... i guess that's all i can say about her. She never really does something on her own (outside of "her" arc). A walking wikipedia character
Rest of the characters are even more bland and generic. I have hard time remembering anything nice or interesting about them, outside of their "puberty syndrome".
_ENJOYMENT_: 5
I somewhat enjoyed it. Supernatural things lead to some suspence after all, even if they are stupid. Start can be rated higher, but I quickly got tired later
_OVERALL_: 4 or 5
Show with cheap dramas, based on unlogical supernatural phenomena. Generic characters, whose personality can completely be described with few words. Looping plot, which basically repeats its scheme every 2-3 episodes. All this quickly bores you later or, as there are no real surprises anymore.
Also may note abrupt ending - final dramas wan't properly finished and few questions, which dragged along almost entire show - left unanswered. (but there is a sequel film, so there is hope)
Apparently, show must trigger me hard to force to write such a big review like this. I hope it wouldn't hurt eyes of english-native readers, if there would be any)
Oh, i forgot one self-questioning thing: how this anime ended up being so high in ratings? This is something i don't understand at all. Even if you ignore all the logic - it is still kinda boring and repeatable. Hmm.
Last suggestion: Bakemonogatari is pretty much the same stuff but better. Yes, it's not perfect too, it has a lot of fanservice, and i didn't like how empty that world feels, but compared to this it is much, MUCH better

Surprisingly great, so great that i will go ahead and put it in my small 10 section
Pluses + Great main duo of characters - Risa and Otani. They are energeric, they are funny, they are serious, they are ALIVE. Few of the best chars i know. + Nicely executed idea of high girl\small guy + Interesting, easy-going humor approach. At first episode i was afraid of so many grimaсes and... ehm... face distortions happening around, but soon got used to and it felt actually emotional\funny (note: after first few episodes there's not so much grimacing happening) + In general: funny, easy-going, good romantic show. Minuses: - Show is a bit longer ... Feb 7, 2021

I never watched chibi animes before. Expected it to be somewhat dumb but funny, but apparently, expectations weren't low enough.
Minuses: - This show is VERY dumb and it feels like a mockery of original - Where original Assasination Classroom was funny - this show mostly was just retarded - Where original Assasination Classroom was dramatic or epic - this show tried to convert that into positive\comedic moments and that appeared to be as horrible mess - Characters in original all had more or less depth, i liked that show trait. Here they are mostly turned into "crowd", and only some stand out a bit - mostly repeating same stupid ... Dec 21, 2020

One of the best specials i've seen (i didn't see much, though). The other one would be Steins;Gate one.
It is "kinda prequel, kinda not" It's interesting, it's fun, it's compact. It also has good music, like an original show. Yes, it doesn't add much to the series, but then, how many specials do? It's actually not that bad to watch on its own, without series, because of how story is served I absolutely recommend this concentrated fun package. It won't take a lot of your time anyway. Also, you can use it as the show ad to agitate friends! If that is even possible ...I don't know what ... Dec 2, 2020

Pluses:
+ Interesting, fresh setting + Nice, diverce characters. While main hero is in focus, most of others receive development too and don't feel useless + Non-standart artstyle. 3D! It has minuses, such as having low-fps, and somewhat empty backgrounds. But characters look great, many action scenes too and it feels so unique, i will put it at 9 just for that + Weird, non-predictable, intriguing story + Interesting to watch + I feel like it's the best shounen anime i saw Minuses: ... As said by many, film gives more questuins and almost to no answers.
It is the single most confusing anime I watched yet. Watching this film after series, I almost didn't undestand anything. New confusing world, some new characters, that act like they always were here... Keeping it short: - Confusing story, which twisted almost everything you knew from the series - Weak characters (Homura is the only one semi-developed, and i didn't like her at all) - Outstanding art - Great orchestral music - Ending clarified things a little, then made them even weirder. Film is pleasing to watch and its atmosphere is darkly attracting, but both characters and story weren't actually ... Nov 8, 2020

There gonna be spoilers! Though, you will know most those things from episode one, so that doesn't matter much...
I came to this show from Kaguya's recommendations. Expected it to be funny, easy-going show, without many dropped cliffhangers, which i would watch and enjoy slowly (it never happens, but nevertheless, i hoped). And romantic, maybe a bit Instead... It flashes way too much to understand anything. There is no plot. I was curious, why this is so high in rankings and... pokemon nostalgia, they say?
The only thing that deserves high score there is art. Technically, it's pretty nice done. If you're into art, then you will like this video. Sound is ok, but nothing outstanding there I like AMV videos in general, collected a fair bunch of them, but this one, while being official, is not on the bright side. Again: it flashes too much, and it shows nothing particulary interesting. People faces, that dash around for like 0.5 second, aren't very appealing (i mean, ... Sep 3, 2020

Pretty weird show. Sometimes was nice and sometimes was pretty dumb. (Ahead are some pretty minor spoilers)
I liked it first part, where: 1) Main story wasn't really present and characters were loafing around, doing different staff. 2) Characters felt actually diverse and nice 3) There was a lot of jokes here and there 4) If somewhere i felt "magical atmosphere" (like in Harry Potter) - it was in some episodes of the first half. First part is 8 out of 10 Second part is "story" part. It wasn't funny, but i can't say it's seriousness is justified. Miss Ursula, who kinda had the biggest lever to turn the things around - ... My small review for this very nice suspence anime
STORY 8\10 Anime is slow in pacing - a lot of dialogues, not so much action. Heroes were searching answers for many questiong and trying to find the way out of their situation - almost whole anime was about that. It does feel like story could be deeper-more broad. It also feels like the ending is weird and leaves open many questions (tho they say there will be second season). That being said, I still consider it nice ART 9\10 I'm not that perfection-hungry with art, and for me art was really great. A plus\minus point is that characters faces were ... |
