Konnichiwa, my fellow anime lovers!
Today I will be doing a review on the trending action series namely - Deadman Wonderland.
***PLEASE NOTE***
Please keep in mind when reading, that this review is solely based off the anime and with no reference to the manga at all.
STORY : 5
Deadman Wonderland hits the ground running and to no surprise as it is only 12 episodes in length (excluding the lone OVA). However, it is plagued with lack of depth, unanswered questions by the time the series came to a close, and has its fair share of plot holes. The pacing also gets flak for being inconsistent and spirals down
...
fairly early.
ART : 6
The animation was on par with modern anime series - nothing more, nothing less. Even though it has elements of gore throughout the series, it isn't to the extent to that of a true horror anime would be. It also lacks depth in non-human objects directly linked to the plot such as the timed devices around their necks, rarely displaying much needed information.
SOUND : 7
The OST of Deadman Wonderland is absolutely huge in comparison to the majority 12-episode series out there and this would be its highest praise. Unfortunately, no part of the OST stood out in particular, but it served its purpose in setting the atmosphere. The opening was fitting for the show but nothing worth writing home about. One positive aspect about the show was the dub. It was on par and one can even say it exceeded its Japanese counterparts. This probably explains its popularity in North America.
CHARACTERS : 5
Similar to the OST - the show has loads of characters for a 12-episode series, however in this case this causes a major headache in the character development department for main characters, let alone side-characters as most of their motives or side-stories are almost non-existent (and not taking the OVA into account). None of the characters stood out with the exception of Shino who was "likable".
ENJOYMENT : 5
The show started off well, but then the pacing went to hell until it caught up again mid-series. The open-ending was also disappointing as there are no current plans for a second season. Not that it would've saved it as the show induced its own spontaneously combustion by the end.
OVERALL : 6
Taking into account the OST and characters, it is daylight obvious that this series was intended to have at least 24 episodes which would've made it much, much better. That being said, Deadman Wonderland can't be regarded as a waste of time as it is fun for casual viewing, but I'd rather recommend Mirai Nikki as it is also intended for the same audience and succeeds in most of the departments where Deadman Wonderland fell short.

Konnichiwa, my fellow anime lovers!
Today I will be doing a review for the highly praised psychological/police thriller namely - Death Note.
STORY : 8
Death Note starts off fairly sluggish as the plot is quite complicated and needs to explain to the viewer of the rules that apply during the remainder of the series. This can be a bit daunting at first, but this allows the viewer to shape creative ideas, as if you were in the shoes of the protagonist himself. This is also beneficial when the story really picks up its intensity so the viewers' focus can be solely on the plot. It must be
...
said, when the wheels are turning, this show is intense as can be and an absolute joy to watch. One setback the plot had was the mid-series climax and was delayed to pick up momentum again, but once it did, this train went all the way.
ART : 8
The art-style is very well suited for the genre as it creates this sense of claustrophobia and solitude. You could argue that the creators of Death Note wanted the viewer to have an isolated viewpoint as that from the main protagonist. All color-contrasts has been stripped from this world with the only exception being objects linked to the plot.
SOUND : 7
This is very subjective and I feel most viewers would disagree with me on the subject. No part of the OST stood out for me, and I suspect it was simply my preference to the musical genre. That being said the OST served its main purpose in setting up the atmosphere in every scene and I'll let you know the openings were phenomenal. Death Note is one of the rare cases where the English dub was done fairy well, so pick whichever to your liking.
CHARACTERS : 9
This is were the anime sets the benchmark for the thriller genre.
The constant tussle between two geniuses (Kira and L) to stay ahead in their believed vindictive perceptions and to anticipate each others actions. The supporting roles also deserve a special mention as they are also focused to intertwine with the twists and turns the plot takes you on.
ENJOYMENT : 7
For my low-attention span brain, this show was draining to watch to say the least, but was very entertaining. Most viewers will constantly have their minds in overdrive to keep up with the plot, but that is to be expected watching an in-depth thriller such as Death Note.
OVERALL : 8
I wouldn't recommend this for younger audiences as the plot is complex and the twists aren't as obvious to notice even if you were fully focused on the plot. For mature audiences fascinated with the detective-thriller genre, this is an absolute must-see and will probably go down as one of their finest.

Konnichiwa, my fellow anime lovers!
Today I will be doing a review on the classic Manga driven Ecchi Anime namely - Golden Boy.
***PLEASE NOTE***
As this is a comedy, the rating criteria will be focused mainly around that theme. Due to the nature of the genre, the plot will not be discussed as it is of minor importance.
STORY : 7
Golden Boy is a 6-part OVA meaning each episode introduces a new arc (with the exception of the final OVA). If you are not the type to be entertained by perverted humor I wouldn't even bother reading this review any further - but if you are...well, then you
...
are in for a treat. The comedy, though very shallow, is very well executed in most aspects.
ART : 7
The anime was released in 1995 so it is to be expected that the art-style would be dated. However, when it needs to lift the bar in terms of expression - the animation shines. From facial expressions to pale characters.
SOUND : 7
While the OST is nothing worthy of praise, the voice-acting compensates for that in spades! And for our pro-English dub friends, you are in luck for this is a brilliant example of a comedy dub done right (for the most parts). Also, the sound effects deserve a special mention as it escalates the humor to a whole new level.
CHARACTERS : 5
This is where the anime takes its major knock. Due to the nature of the genre and every OVA having its own arc, it makes character development almost impossible except for the main protagonist (being treated also as the main antagonist for the majority of the series). It does impress with cameo roles by the side-characters and their interaction and reactions to Kintaro Oe.
ENJOYMENT : 8
Even though this short OVA series suffers in certain aspects, it is just not enough to distract you from journey Kintaro Oe (and his mishaps) takes you on.
OVERALL : 7
While this anime isn't suited to all (especially the female counterpart), I still recommend this for all lovers of the genre as it is a true classic and has immense re-watch value.

Hello All!
For today I will be doing a 1-minute review on the highly acclaimed psychological thriller namely - Mirai Nikki (The Future Diary). Let's Go!
STORY : 6
This 26-episode ride starts off with a bang from the very first episode. As this is a thriller it should be standard-fare to expect twists every now and again so you will need to pay close attention to the plot, but not that it becomes an emotional burden at any stage. However, there are various plot holes and they are impossible to miss as your mind is always in 5th gear looking for that extra piece of info.
ART :
...
7
The art-style is expected to match that of the latest anime and it does. It neither disappoints or exceeds in that aspect. There are both censored and uncensored versions available so be sure to pick up which one you prefer. Selected scenes can be gory, but not excessive as compared to some horror titles.
SOUND : 7
While most of the soundtrack doesn't stand out, some parts do. The opening track also deserves a special mention as it is just mesmerizing. The voice acting is done fairly well. The English dub is an utter mess.
CHARACTERS : 7
Most of the characters are somewhat enjoyable and development is done well in terms of screen-time. One character deserves a special mention - Yuno Gasai (voiced by Tomosa Murata) - which is truly exceptional and will get my vote as one of the best lead female roles in an anime series.
ENJOYMENT : 8
I've had very few dull moments in between episodes and for the most part was a very fun series to watch.
OVERALL : 7
Because of its obvious plot holes it subtracts to what could have been a great anime and therefor I won't recommend it for analytical viewers. As for anyone else who enjoys the genre, I recommend Mirai Nikki.
