'Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II' Reveals Additional Staff, Main Promo

The Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online presentation at the Aniplex Online Fest 2024 revealed on Monday additional staff, second key visual (pictured), and a promotional video for the second season. The new season is scheduled to premiere on October 5 at 12:00 a.m. on Tokyo MX, BS11, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, followed by MBS, Aichi TV.

ReoNa (Sword Art Online: Alicization) is performing the opening theme "GG" which is previewed in the promotional video below.

Masayuki Sakoi (Shinchou Yuusha: Kono Yuusha ga Ore Tueee Kuse ni Shinchou Sugiru) returns to helm the second season at A-1 Pictures. Yousuke Kuroda (Jormungand) is handling the series composition and Yoshio Kozakai (Enen no Shouboutai) is designing the characters.

Gun Gale Online adapts the spin-off light novel by Keiichi Sigsawa (Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World), which has been published under the Dengeki Bunko imprint since December 2014, featuring illustrations by Kouhaku Kuroboshi (Princess Principal). Kadokawa published the 13th volume in March 2023 and will release the 14th volume on October 10.

Tadadi Tamori drew a manga adaptation in Dengeki Maoh magazine from October 2015 to January 2021. Kadokawa shipped the fourth and final volume in March 2021.

Yen Press licensed both the light novel and manga in English in 2017 and published the 13th novel volume in November 2023. The fourth and final manga volume went on sale in January 2023.

@malvarez1 Sometimes I think it's not so much the show itself that people love, but the fact that it's a unique opportunity to get SAO without Kirito. I still remember threads on Reddit where people cited the absence of Kirito and related elements of the show as practically the main selling point of the anime for them.

@_MushiRock11_ I'm wondering if we'll get more SAO content in the future or if Dengeki Bunko is just maintaining general interest in the franchise this way.

GG is such a fitting name for the Op title, lol.

Looking forward to this, we have waited ages for this…

@RobertBobert Knowing the popularity of the SAO franchise, I'm sure there'll be more than just this! SAO original movie coming soon too and I'm sure they'll adapt the final bits following the Aliciazation arc as well as churn out more of those progressive movies.
