I need to point out that the real best of that list are One Piece and Detective Conan

lol XD I don't really see why Pokemon isn't liked by lots of people >.< I, for one, adore Pokemon, especially Diamond and Pearl. I'm glad that Pokemon is in the top 10 <3
I know! It's one of the only long-running series I'm still watchin' :D

Yes! I'm glad someone agrees with me =D

(since anime like true tears, clannad, shanna, spice and wolf are late-nite anime)

i am a little surprised about precure 5 go go go and gegege no kitaro. i didnt know precure was a really popular mahou shoujo title. now i defenitely need to watch it =) and i've personally never heard of gegege no kitaro.
oh wait, actually it also is a little surprising that maruko is higher than shin. ive seen a few of both and i always thought that shin would be a much more popular show.
oh, and gotta love detective conan. 8) it's such a good show and i wish i had kept up with it when i started watching it years ago.

Yeah I'm surprised Pokemon Diamond and Pearl is up there. Sucks

One Piece should be on top and everything else recycled.
QFT times infinity.
Though, I must say, I'm quite surprised to see Pokemon still holding up strong in Japan, after the serious fallout here in the US with it (at least around where I live).

I attribute the decrease of viewers to the general decrease of TV viewers in Japan. Internet has kicked out TV from the center of family life, and it's getting rare that whole family members eat dinner together (and watch Sazae-san).
I agree with this, because there are corresponding drops in N. America and Europe as well (all of them happening in the past decade.) For better or worse, gone are the times when two or three television networks could virtually monopolize home entertainment. Of course, the number of anime series broadcast compared to 10 years ago has nearly tripled, so I probably shouldn't complain. :)

Sazae-san will be at the top of the list ten years from now too, since EVERYBODY watches it.
Sazae-san is a kind of Sunday evening time signal for us. "Weekend is over. Now go back to work!"
wait for it -- if there's some illegal downloading/timeshifting going on that's affecting the numbers (and if it is, I guarantee you that it's going to affect a show like Clannad more than Doraemon.)

Those numbers show that it (and the other shows) have lost nearly a third of their audience in the last 10 years, though. I wonder whether that many people have found other amusements besides anime or -- wait for it -- if there's some illegal downloading/timeshifting going on that's affecting the numbers (and if it is, I guarantee you that it's going to affect a show like Clannad more than Doraemon.)
I don't think this data means much to us. Those anime are aired arond 7 pm and watched by ordinary "non geek" families. Nothing to do with our favorite anime aired after midnight.
Well, in case anyone is curious, here's a couple of recent numbers for the AM so you can compare them against the top 10. Most of these are late Feb. numbers, and all of them air late at night:
Minami-ke 2: 2.1
Bamboo Blade: 1.7
Aria Origination: 0.8
Labyrinth: 1.1
Dragonaut: 0.7
Clannad: 1.9
Shana II: 1.3
Kaiji: 3.1 (has been as high as 3.9 recently)
Gurren-Lagann (Rerun): 0.8
Macross (Rerun):1.0
Precure 5, the lowest of the top 10, draws a 6.6 rating.
