manglobe studios (Ergo Proxy, Samurai Champloo) is finally coming out with a new anime, Michiko to Hatchin.

Sayo Yamamoto (worked as episode director and storyboarder for Samurai Champloo, Ergo Proxy, and Eureka Seven) in her first directorial work.
Takashi Ujita (scriptwriter for live-action Freesia) penning the script.
Hiroshi Shimizu (animation director for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG, Kemonozume, and Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi) designing the characters.
Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo) producing the music.

The title's Michiko is a free-willed "sexy diva" who destroys a supposedly inescapable prison fortress, while Hatchin is a girl fleeing her strict foster parents. The two join forces on an improbable escape to freedom.

eh, sounds very unoriginal to me

Sounds like a classical theme that needs to be executed in a fresh and crazy manner.
This might be good if they do it right.

And with an animation director from Kemonozume and Abenobashi handling the character designs this must at least look cool.

Why isn't that in the database already?

I felt the same way before Ergo Proxy came out, only to be thuroughly dissapointed. Still, I think this has potential. SIt'll be interesting to see how Saya Yamamoto handles directing a series for the first time.

I like Ergo Proxy except it tended to move slow and messed with my brain.
I'm getting an epic vibe from Michiko to Hatchin. It looks like crazy fun by just looking at the pic at ANN.
