An anime film for Shirobako was announced at the Musashi-Sakai x Shirobako Spring Festival on Saturday, the third anniversary event of the franchise. The announcement noted that it will be a brand new film, and will continue the story from the original anime. This marks the second time P.A. Works would produce a sequel, following Uchouten Kazoku 2 last April. Staff members from the TV series are set to return for the film project.

Directed by Tsutomu Mizushima (Genshiken episode director), Shirobako is P.A. Works' second work-themed original anime after Hanasaku Iroha in 2011. The 24-episode series aired in Fall 2014, and was simulcast by Crunchyroll. Two special episodes were also included with the third and seventh Blu-ray and DVD volumes in February and July 2015.

Kenji Sugihara (Clockwork Planet series composition) and Mizutama drew a two-volume manga adaptation in Kadokawa's Dengeki Daioh magazine between September 2014 and November 2015. Shueisha published the Shirobako: Introduction novel adaptation under its Jump j-Books imprint in January 2015. The Dai 3-hikou Shoujo-tai short manga by Takeshi Nogami based on the fictional series The Third Girls Aerial Squad within the anime was distributed at Comiket 88 in August 2015.

Sentai Filmworks licensed the anime for North American distribution in November 2014 and released the series on two Blu-ray and DVD volumes in February and March 2016. The anime is also licensed by Madman Entertainment in Australia and New Zealand, and was released on a single DVD volume in December 2016.

Shirobako won the 20th Kobe Animation Awards in 2015, the 2016 Tokyo Anime Awards for Animation of the Year, and ranked second under the animation category in Yomiuri Shimbun's second Sugoi Japan Awards in 2016. The series was the only TV production to be selected by the Jury Committee in the animation division at the 19th Japan Media Arts Festival.

I just found this information from Sayaka Yamamoto twitter. She retweeted a tweet from shirobako production. I was wondering if there would be any chance that she would be taking part in this show.

According to this, which mentions that the staff receiving a Tweet from P.A Works president telling the producer to finish it within this year. ("年内" in "年内に完成させてね" means within this year). That's why I said this year not next year.

Actually, they want the movie to be finished and released early next year 2020 and not in 2019.

Wow this anime is an insult, because the fact this this anime is telling a documentary about the process of making anime as the show it self is trying to take a serious tone accept how the production portrays it is insulting such as the character design is soo generic as fuck where facial gesture and design are basically emoji and really simplistic . How can i take this show serious where they're asking "spoiler* the god director hideaki anno being ask to animated. The way they'ed portrayed it, i feel like they're trying to make it take place in a real coming of age existential setting which i don't felt it like because of how flat and digital the art direction is. also THAT UUUGI FACE OF HIDEAKI ANNO. EVEN EVANGELION IS MORE SERIOUS THE THIS FUCKING ANIME ITSELF LIKE DUDE COMPARE THIS TO THE ANIME BECK. LOOK HOW MUCH EFFORT THEY PUT INTO THE SHOW

Do you... actually know what you're talking about?

I wonder if they'll cover all the current problems animation currently has (and can have), or I wonder if it'll just cover the making of the anime that the girls have wanted to do

Am I the only one who think a full adaptation of 'Exodus!' would be better than a Shirobako movie? (For those who've watched Exodus episode 1 OVA)

I actually want to see an OVA of Gothic Lolita Women’s Koushien.

This was completely unexpected. I watched the TV series about half a year ago, and I was not expecting to ever see any more of Shirobako. This really came out of nowhere.

Full-length Andes Chucky incoming

Cool! I have to watch all of the first series. But a sequel announcement years after the original aired gives hope that other (original) anime can get sequels too even years later!
