A Nintendo Wii game of "81 Diver" was released on March 25th. At the promotional event, the author Shibata Yokusaru won a Shogi match against a professional. It's extremely rare that an amateur Shogi player beats a professional. The opponent Fujita Aya made a record of the youngest professional female Shogi player (11 years and 6 month old).

"Chihayafuru" won Manga Award 2009. Manga Award is chosen by bookstore keepers and no manga authors and editors are involved in the judging process. Chihayafuru is a shoujo manga about a Japanese classic card game "Karuta". Ayase Chihaya is a high school girl, who has an excellent ability in hearing. She aims at becoming the national champion of Karuta.
