I also read somewhere that there are ~5.85 million units of the LN in circulation now. Is there a possibility that there have been some sales that were not reported to Oricon

Definitely. If it's anything like DVD/BD, then in a given one week period, sales for a given release are only counted if they reach some threshold. 100th place for BDs, 300th place for DVDs.

So, you could see the following for BD for example:
Week - Ranking - Week Sales - Total Sales (per Oricon)

Wk1: **5 | 5,000 | 5,000
Wk2: *15 | 1,000 | 6,000
Wk3: *49 | *,500 | 6,500
Wk4: 105 | *,200 | 6,500
Wk5: *98 | *,250 | 6,750

Instead of 6,700 in wk4 and 6,950 in wk5. Week 4 didn't make the threshold to be tracked by Oricon, so when it charted within the top 100 (thus getting counted) the next week, it's like the previous week's sales didn't happen.

This doesn't happen too often with DVD/BD because titles don't generally come back into the top 100/50 respectively after dropping below the ranking threshold, so we never know what we missed. The one recent example I can think of is, like, the fourth or fifth week of Fate/Zero (when it was mostly out of stock anyway).

I'd guess it happens a lot more often with light novels, especially if there's a sales lull between when they initially rank and when they get a boost from an anime adaptation. They might be pulling 1-3k a week (or whatever the threshold is for LNs) for a while without being counted, then when the anime starts up and they pull in the ~5-8k necessary to make the rankings we see, we don't get those smaller weeks.

like what happens for some of the anime with their BD/DVD sales only accounting for ~1/3 of their actual sales?

Where did you read that statistic? Just curious. I'd think this is only the case in extreme exceptions (Nodame Cantabile was cited as one example by a noitaminA producer, but that's quite the anomaly due to being vastly more mainstream friendly than most late night anime). Real sales will always be higher than Oricon reported sales, but 200% higher? Seems excessive.

Hm, that does glean some light on the "missing sales". What is the rank threshold for light novels by the way on Oricon? I wish they would report more ranks, thus having a lower threshold for each week's list.

I think I saw it somewhere on the Mania Anime Sales thread in regards to the 1/3 sales number. I'll look for it later, because i'm posting from uni, lol xD

That's the 8th week (9th for volume 1) in a row that all volumes are in top 30...

Total sales (Aug 20-26) / Weekly sales
2,575,356 (112,924)

Total sales (Aug 27-Sep 2) / Weekly sales
2,693,776 (118,420)

Hm... will there be a boost in sales for the Sep 3-9 week, after the airing of Episode 10, to coincide with the sudden rise to the top of all the BD volumes on Amazon JP?

I also read somewhere that there are ~5.85 million units of the LN in circulation now. Is there a possibility that there have been some sales that were not reported to Oricon like what happens for some of the anime with their BD/DVD sales only accounting for ~1/3 of their actual sales? This discrepancy can also account for LN units that have not been sold yet, right?

I actually want a number of how much money Oda made from One Piece...

It'd also be great if it was seperated into money from: Ads, manga, anime, products, etc, etc but... not gonna happen eh?XD

OP still under three million? Guess the hype went down since the war of the best... but being honest I'd say that One Piece Movie Z will push it again.

Regarding the novels -- I heard you like SAO? <3
