I really like that anime, but it's a little bit lame that it's so similiar with Junjou Romantica. It's also boring, that they also work in a publishing company, those two guys are related in their past, and that younger guy is like Misaki and the other one is like Akihiko (angry, grumpy, smoker, in a higher possition)..

I don't really know anything but, the yaoi the better. Hope this one is better than the others, since most I've watched weren't that good besides JR. Also is there any other guys here?

CAN'T WAIT.
Nakamura's mangas are absolutely awesome.
SH is something like continuation of JR... Like it so much. ;3

Nakamura Shungiku is ridiculously lucky. She gets yet another series, when there are numerous, I mean overwhelmingly numerous BL manga that are way better than this.

Meh, good for her, I guess.

Watching this because it's been a long time since I watched a yaoi anime (unless you count Togainu no Chi as one). Although DEEN and animated yaoi in general..

I see a lot of people who either:
-don't like Nakamura Shungiku's work
-who just seem to have come across this thinking this was one thing but it turns out it's yaoi/shounen-ai
-or just looking for more yuri

That's fine and all....eh.....haters gonna hate

Not that I really need to add this, but most manga and anime, of all genres, really is trash. And if most BL wasn't of such a low caliber, I wouldn't hold it to such a low standard.

"all BL is trash" doesn't excuse nakamura shungiku from writing trash.

besides, that's wrong - it's not all trash. sure, the popular stuff is generic, pandering garbage, but that's true for every medium: the existence of the twilight series does not negate the masterpiece of dracula, for example. there's great, well-written yaoi and bl out there, but you're not going to see it if you just read the bestsellers. fumi yoshinaga, motherfucker, do you read it?

yes, i watched junjou romantica, but i watched it for the PORN. and you don't see anybody singing the praises of the cinematic masterpieces that are kiss x sis and boku no pico.

Doesn't mean I have to go and act all high and mighty about it, and make snide remarks about the nature of their tastes.

Stop trying to point little fingers at my response "tone" (new to the internet?) and get back on the actual topic. We actually have forum mods now for that kind of thing~

Like how--sure, a lot of bad things are being made into anime, but there's also a lot of stagnant material and complacency. We already have a lot of JR. We really need more from her? Some people are going to feel like they had enough already for any genre if things are played out too much and too close to the "mold." Any news topic here will show that for anything with a generic description.

But since the manga makes it on the top-seller charts sometimes and JR sold some DVDs, we'll get more of the same old stuff. It's not helping all these people who run from BL anime, including those of us who read it. Actually, it's hard to care anymore about her than this.. she's just not worth it to me.

Not that I really need to add this, but most manga and anime, of all genres, really is trash. And if most BL wasn't of such a low caliber, I wouldn't hold it to such a low standard. Why do I still read it even though it's mostly compiled of trash? Because of the talented mangaka you mentioned and because I want to be entertained. It doesn't have to be HOLY SHITFUCK AMAZING to be entertaining. And her work is entertaining. End of story.

But it's cool though. You like what you like. And I feel kind of hypocritical getting on your case about disliking someone. Because yaoi really isn't srsbsns to me and it never will be.

I'm not bothered by the fact that you dislike the work of Nakamura Shungiku. I believe I started by previous post by quoting the exact part I disliked.

I completely agree that there are better authors than Nakamura Shungiku, and they don't need to make use of the rape-leads-to-love factor, buuuuuut I also like the type Nakamura Shungiku writes, for a light reading.

Yes, there are a lot of better authors. IMO, there is way too much stupid stuff being made into anime these days, but I can understand that some people like things which I consider stupid/idiotic. Doesn't mean I have to go and act all high and mighty about it, and make snide remarks about the nature of their tastes.

I am, until someone points out my comments which--gasp, doesn't like her stuff. I started out okay but lost patience with 5+ years of stagnant work. You wondered "frankly I don't understand what's with all the Nakamura Shungiku hate" and I told. And I don't buy into the "realistic" part at all. I'd better accept someone just admitting they are fans of rape=love. Whatever floats your boat in that case.

All manga can be srsbsns if you pick better titles--why hold BL to a lower standard? And not a lot of BL is trash. You're reading the wrong authors, the wrong publications, or entirely the wrong genre (why read something you think is mostly trash?) if you believe that. Then again, a lot of the popular titles listed promote those bad things. Just like this anime will further promote it (and turns people away from BL). If anyone ever makes past the very poor anime BL pickings, I just point them to some talented mangaka, like est em, Yamashita Tomoko, Ono Natsume, etc... Nakamura Shungiku is frankly not even in the same class. But she sells. So whatever.

And of course it's a woman, how else would we get these disturbing rape->love and power-plays coupled with crying, snot-faced confessions fantasies in JR?), but there's one thing that really bothers me. I've been reading her stuff for... how many years? Over 5 at least. And it's still the same bad characters, same bad, uninspired writing, and of course, the same ugly, terribly proportioned art. Improvement is minimal and it was starting from a low place. Yet people eat the shit up. And by getting an anime adaptation, this is presented as the "face of BL" for those not familiar with the genre. Shameful. I guess it accurately represents the low parts of the genre. I've read "a lot" of BL as well and if you think her works are a high point, I think you need to branch out and read more.

Oh boy. Because yaoi is srsbsns, right. You like what you like and people like Nakamura Shungiku.

There's nothing wrong with her art and her characters are likeable enough. No shit there isn't any DEEP emotions and definitely not plot. But this is yaoi we're talking about. The only reason I can see disliking her is because of the typical rape = love. But, having read a lot of BL, you have to agree that the rape = love in JR is not nearly as bad as it could be. Equally popular works such as Okane ga Nai, Gravitation, and Koisuru Boukun are far worse in that category. I'd rather have JR be the 'face of BL' over Gravitation.

I've read a decent amount of BL, not nearly as much as you have, but a pretty good amount, at least more than most people. And a lot of it is trash. I definitely don't think she is THE BEST EVAAARRR but there's something about her stories that I think is special.

But I might be too busy eating her shit up to take off my Nakamura Shungiku glasses.

If reading any manga marked "yaoi" or "shounen-ai" means I still need to branch out more, I wonder what do people who only read 2-3 titles need to do?

I don't suppose you'd be one of those people who could ever, you know, " [i ]agree to disagree " right? It's not like people could have different tastes, for no reason at all.

OK, perhaps "a lot of its plot" was not the best manner to phrase this. There are aspects which I personally, found both important as far as the storyline goes and realistically presented. And by realistically, I of course mean considering the existing context.
For example: Misaki's struggles regarding his future career, or how Nowaki is always trying to "measure up" to Hiroki. etc etc.

Then again, I don't read/watch yaoi for the oh-so-amazing and deep plot line. So I suppose it depends on what exactly you expect from a yaoi anime/manga.

To most of yaoi fans, that's the case and it doesn't necessarily mean that we watch it because we're gay/ weird ppl, but it's because we like the genre.

Hear hear.

I've read a lot of yaoi manga (correction: MOST of the manga I read is yaoi), and frankly I don't understand what's with all the Nakamura Shungiku hate. Sure there are better authors, but he/she (cba to look up his/her gender) is not bad at all. Especially JR, presents a lot of its plot in a realistic manner. Sure there are a lot of jokes, but... um... they're just that: jokes.

Though, I don't agree with Muraki's harsh criticism. Don't just badmouth a series just because it has a certain genre and 454568764 people above you have disliked it. Watch it first, and then criticize.
