A high school setting, a sudden confession from a persistent guy, and the whirlwind of young love that ensues. This sounds like every cliche shoujo premise you've ever read, doesn't it? But while the plot is simplistic and predictable, My Hero actually succeeds in making the same old cliches a little more palatable because it does something very different.
The male lead in this manga is not popular, he's not a bishounen—he doesn't fit any of the usual cliches. Instead, he's the dorky, earnest, hardworking guy that isn't very popular. In fact, he's the type of character you'd see in a love triangle in one of

My Hero. Sounds like a cliche title doesn't it? I'm not sure how I stumbled upon this, but I'm glad I did! I'm just basing this on the 7 chapters I read, because I could not for the life of me find the LAST chapter. Brb, gonna go cry.
Anyways, Story; +9/10 It was incredibly light-hearted and just plain hilarious some parts! I actually chuckled a few times, too. I don't think I've laughed this much at a manga before. This story had a good feel to it, and I think the author did a fantabulous job with it! Art; +9/10 I really liked how this time, this guy is not ... Aug 11, 2015
My Hero! was just what I've been looking for. Lately, I've found myself dropping shoujo manga out of disappointment and turning to shounen and josei manga. I'm glad that I was able to find My Hero!
The manga is about an ordinary girl named Jun Okamoto. For some reason that she can't comprehend, a guy named Yutarou at her school keeps watching her at break and apparently is interested in her. Even though it is unclear whether Jun even has feelings for him, he persistently continues to go after her, which makes her dumbfounded. His extreme persistence is basically what makes the manga. The art is satisfactory ... Mar 22, 2016
I was a little intrigued by the beginning of this manga because of one thing: instead of the female protagonist being in love with a seemingly unattainable boy, there was a strange boy pursuing the protagonist. And he wasn't a complete weirdo, either; he acted nervous in a very cute way and obviously adored her. I wondered very much how things would turn out.
At first she's quite skeptical of Yutarou, as she doesn't know him and is creeped out by him staring at her all the time. His courage in asking her out while being very visibly nervous is endearing, though. While he isn't the ... Jun 3, 2015
STORY: 8/10
Despite its predictability, its light heartedness made it enjoyable. This manga was a good read for its plot was not to in-depth that required deep thought; or did it surprise you with twists. Instead it provides a calming, cute and sweet tempered plot. CHARACTERS: 9/10 It was nice to see that neither main characters personalities were changed or dimmed down to sort each other. Instead an opposite attract approach was developed in a way that left me smiling. If only current boys were more free-spirited as Yutarou. Jun 30, 2020
My Hero is a short 2 volume story about a forward boy and a somewhat shy girl. The boy confesses but she rejects but slowly but surely falls in love with the boy who doesn't stop.
This series would've been great if it only was a one shot tbh. The chapters were basically the author using tropes like, sleeping or not really understanding what someone says so the other person doesn't understand they confessed. Its a bad trope and does bring the series but its also short so its not like a major effect. The love rival addition though. That was pointless. like literally just random extension ... Jul 10, 2024
- short, sweet, and simple, though too simple for my taste. there's not much to it, plot or character-wise. one could find the mcs to be some bit endearing, seeing as they are flustered youths; the mmc is definitely sweet with his open affection
- cute premise! i read this because of "ore monogatari!!," so i generally like premises like these (even looking back at my reading history). but, going back to the first point, i think this one might have been better off as a oneshot. - reading "my hero!" filled my time nicely, and i can't say i regret it (especially since it's so ... i really enjoyed this manga. there's no drama. there's no action. a pinch of romance. there's nothing deep about this story. nice art as well. simple and innocent characters that are learning to know and admire each other. not a special one but surely a piece of story that you will enjoy reading from one page to another.
it's good that it's just a short one because if it went longer, it would have spoiled everything. probably they could have added drama, but the story is excellent as it is, so drama would be inappropriate for this one. light rom-com manga. the power of infatuation or admiration. cant ... I really enjoyed this manga. Though the story is extremely short and simple, the characters (more specifically the male lead) are what makes this simple story enjoyable. (I’m a sucker for hot-headed dorks as well as anime boys with super short hair so the author really got me there;))
I’ve grown quite tired of the same old popular, pretty and sometimes aloof male love interests that I’m seeing a lot in the romance mangas that I’ve been trying to read. But THIS boy is finally something different. He’s a complete dork and I’m so in love with him lol. If you’re looking for a quick and heartwarming ... Aug 12, 2020
Funny. Cute. Heart-warming.
I read this one years ago and I must appreciate the author´s humor that she put into this manga. The setting is perfect for our characters, because the main lead´s personality wouldn´t impress the readers if it was written in a high-school setting (at least in my opinion). Needless to say, the main lead´s personality is fresh, cute and funny. He´s so caring with the main heroine and his persistence compensates for his lack of IQ. His appearance stands-out as well, when comparing to the typical bi-shounen. I´m a little disasppointed by the main heroine though, she didn´t impress me with anything, really. ... |
