Kyokutou Necromance ended today. I read this manga because it's by the same mangaka that did Aliens Arena. Naba's growth was evident in this story but it was not enough to get this story to stick around longer than Aliens Arena. This manga had a lot of likable characters and a lot of potential. The world building was solid and the story progressed at a decent pace. However, there was nothing about it to make it stand out amongst the other Jump titles. In many ways it felt like a weak version of Yu Yu Hakusho. However, these flaws did not deter me from

liking what the story had to offer every week up until the final chapter. The final chapter hinted at where the larger story could have gone, but did it in such a way that things felt a bit disjointed and unsatisfying. It's a shame that we didn't get a more solid ending even if it felt rather abrupt instead.
That said, when Naba returns to Jump, I will read whatever the next story will be. I really like Naba's ideas and I think if Naba continues to grow as a mangaka, eventually there will be a manga that will be entertaining and bigger than previous titles.
If you liked Aliens Arena, this is worth the read. If you did not like Aliens Arena you might not like this either, but it is a bit better.
