The plot itself is actually surprisingly interesting: the MC is forced to live with this spacey gal character, which sounds generic but the MC doesn't give a fuck about her and only cares about cleaning up the messes she makes in his house. Thought I'd drop this review in case anyone has thought about picking up this manga, but hasn't seen the recent shitstorm over the raw that just got released. But basically don't touch this manga unless you want to get invested for a short while just to get shit on in the most asinine way possible.

I think this manga had some nice potential in the oncoming gyaru genre storm. It was kinda cute, had an interesting spin with cleaning tips involved, and seemed like it was only supposed to get better from here. However for some reason the author went off the deep-end and thought ... "What's the fastest way to lose my fanbase while simultaneously getting closer to my series being axed? Bad chapter count and rape seem alright to me."

After chapter 8, the count turns into such a shitstorm that you'll probably be wondering how many chapters you've even progressed. It gets progressively worse and worse with each chapter as it starts to go into numbers like "8.91" and "8.93." I don't think that annoys me as much as how bad the chapters were. I didn't really mind the fanservice that much until it started getting more and more ridiculous as it went on. When you finally think "is the side-story over now?" you randomly get hit with one of the worst chapters of manga I've ever seen. This shit wouldn't even be decent quality if it was a doujinshi.

A side character you barely know that much about just randomly flashbacks into a full on rape scene where she is smacked across the head and put down by two delinquent students that start stripping her and licking her body. The chapter ends with her saying "someone please... make my body clean again!" with the MC sprinting to the class.

Yeah I'm gonna need some cleaning myself, for my fucking eyes that is. I think comparing it to doujinshi might be a bit of an insult cause I don't even think doujin writing is on the same tier as this. I don't mind scenes like this if they're done tastefully or at least add some kind of narrative to the story, but this was so far out of left field that I began to wonder if the author just had a stroke while writing this or if he wanted to pick up traction with controversy. I guess at the very least it killed my sides with how bad it was, but don't pick up this manga. If you've somehow read it to chapter 8 but haven't caught up, pretend like it ends there. I have no idea how this manga will ever recover from this if it magically does not get axed. This shit was a complete comedic and story trainwreck. Read some other gyaru manga instead.

Edit: Unsurprisingly this series has been axed now, so if you were hoping to somehow get amnesia and forget the rape scene so you could go back to enjoying a cute gal manga then you're outta luck. At least this all made for one goofy ass meme of a manga huh?

This is your average comedy romance manga where the guy is shy, serious, neat and the girl is popular, pretty and a total mess. Nothing new here, the story is fair and predictable. There is some originality in the comedy whenever the guy ends up cleaning up the girl's place because these situations are explained as if it was a wiki lesson 101 "How to clean this stain". I'm not sure if those methods explained even work in real life, but it's kind of refreshing.

So where does it fail? Well with the second last chapter... Everything fails terrible in there. It is so fucked up ...

A review? I'm honestly trying to think of a way to describe how big of an utter funk up this manga is.

I know the guide tells us to not comment on other reviewers but the other guy pretty much explained how bad this is. I'm just here to back that up and give my own opinion.

This ain't it chief. Plain and simple. If you're into this particular genre, even more so the gyaru trend, believe me, there are far better mangas than this abomination. Example: Gal Gohan or Sono Kisekae Ningyou wa Koi wo Suru.

Once again a lesson is learned to not blindly trust MAL ratings. This is currently the 3rd worst rated manga on MAL. Knowing the first two, I expected this to be amazingly horrible, but I'm surprised that I can say it's actually not bad.

Now, most of this manga is exactly as advertised - there is gyaru, and there is cleaning. The content is what could be called wholesome and the fanservice is nicely done. The concept is also something that doesn't feel generic right from the start and with that together this is a nice relaxing read.

I went into Gal Cleaning only because it had a low score, I was just on the lookout for something actually bad. If you already know my views on anything very lowly rated, you'd know that I don't actually find such media to be as bad as the score say it is. Sometimes with a mean score of 3.XX only shouts 6.XX or higher to me. Gal Cleaning was no exception, if anything, it is very misunderstood.

The story plays off as a normal generic cliche, in both story and characters, only based around a dude and a gyaru in their mischievous ... time together, synopsis will explain the rest. Nothing too out of the ordinary happens and for the most part, this is done well. I would usually check off stories like these with 6/10 and talk about the next category. But with one particular Gal Cleaning took it to the next level, I won't say what happens, but you will more than likely not see something shift this much in the narrative so much for a good long while. It is the only reason why this manga is rated so low, but it isn't bad. This is kinda like what happened with the AOT ending reaction. In any case, I saw this and thought that it was actually realistic to the world around itself, pay attention to what Kaji says in ch 3 and you will see what I mean. Whether that was a coincidence or intentional is something I don't know, but it was actually fitting regardless. Another, more accurate reason why such an event occurred was something I got out of talking to someone else about it, about how the cleaning is not only physical but also spiritual, though I think it is more mental in my opinion. In any case, it is quite the pretty cool idea snuck into this that I didn't even think of myself, makes you think that pretty much anything can have symbolism. It's really apt in such a case and makes for something you will probably remember because of what it does, whether for wrong or right reasons. Good stuff.

The art is fine, it is pretty much like every comedy manga with no individual style to it. Is there really a point in elaborating here then? Moving on.

I enjoyed this, I find it hard to not enjoy stuff, good or bad, there is a reason to like everything, though some series don't meet a basic standard which means it is impossible to appreciate fully. Gal Cleaning was not one of them. I can't really say I understand why people (if even rationally) dislike this. That one arc in itself isn't enough to pull down the enjoyment if I am honest, it was quite a change though, that is true. Still, this was a fun manga that was also quite clever in its own universe. Also, I must add how the arc just before the one that "brings everything down" is super funny, I found myself laughing more than I should, and I don't really have any idea why, it was just funny. Everything that isn't the hated part is also quite enjoyable, wholesome, and somewhat relaxing. Everything a manga like so needs to at the least keep you attached.

TLDR: A fun manga that has one section which is incredibly misunderstood.

Ermm, can I even recommend this one? Probably not, but it is there for most open-minded people, I would suggest looking a little deep into it, even if it does look a little cliche. What a story though, you wouldn't have guessed something this simple-looking could offend so many people. Hell, I thought this was disliked because people didn't like gyaru characters, before I read this that was. Well, nothing more to add, just another bottom 100 manga that needs defending.

tl;dr: A manga that’s really good when it’s simply a light hearted comedy, but that becomes complete trash when it randomly gets dark after which as expected it gets promptly axed.

Up to a point, this manga is a really solid lighthearted comedy. There are only two characters, but they’re both pretty amusing and have good chemistry so its enjoyable to read about their antics. The random tidbits about cleaning effectively are also interesting. There’s a sort of ending in chapter 8 that while not that deep is a bit heartwarming. Without a doubt the manga should have ended there.

After that it doesn’t immediately get terrible, ... but the plot line following that introduces a new character for whom it immediately switches into a flashback that just ruins the manga. Said flashback isn’t the worst thing in the world and it wouldn’t be an issue in other manga, but it absolutely did not fit here at all. The flashback is tonally completely inconsistent with the rest of the manga in that it gets really dark. This is critical because the light hearted tone and atmosphere of the manga were a big part of what made it so good and the dramatic shift to darker content is not just completely worthless in terms of what gives value to the manga, but it also makes it impossible to bring back the lightheartedness, and furthermore casts a shade on everything up to that point in such a way that in hindsight it just doesn’t seem as good. The flashback also makes absolutely no sense whatsoever in terms of the way characters behave considering such an event happened. The flashback is also completely pointless because it's only a flashback for a character that is completely unimportant, in that it goes into their flashback immediately after they were introduced, but the manga was axed no doubt due to the fans disliking the flashback, and thus said new character never did anything of importance. Thus, it makes absolutely no sense why the flashback exists.

Some believe that the author was simply trolling the readers or that his manga had already been scheduled to be cancelled so he was taking out his frustration on the manga. That doesn’t really make sense though, because while there isn’t much after it, the story does continue after the flashback, at which point it seems to try to pivot back to trying to have an actual solid ending relating to the plot before the flashback. Now, that’s completely impossible because there’s no coming back from that level of garbage fire and hence there wasn’t really any sort of way to salvage even a reasonably satisfying ending. But that the author at least tried to do that makes it likely that the whole thing was simply them making a major mistake in thinking that taking the manga in that direction was okay, which is even more flabbergasting then them trying to screw things up intentionally. Honestly, it just feels like a terrible waste, because the manga was quite enjoyable until it screwed up and I would have loved to see it continuing in the previous fashion. Furthermore, this will likely be toxic for the author as well, which is sad because he clearly is able to create a competent manga based on how this manga began, and furthermore I really liked his art and thought he was incredibly good at making a simple art style look really nice.

This manga is really hard to rate because most of the manga is really good but when it gets bad its really bad. Still, the manga stops right after it gets bad so it's not like there’s a lot of it. If you stop at chapter 8, which encompasses the majority of the manga, it’s a solid read. But after that it's more like a 1.
