Jigokuraku is a highly entertaining manga series that, despite a lack of ambition, executes on it's premise with incredible consistency.

As far as the desire "I want to read a battle manga with high stakes, fun characters, and an intriguing premise" goes, Jigokuraku is pretty much all killer, no filler. If you enjoy escapism, this mystical and bizarre world is the perfect kind to get immersed in.
This series also works in a lot of sexual themes, whether it's comedic fanservice or actual serious plot elements, so that can be a plus or minus depending on the reader. I found myself laughing out loud at the absurdity ...

I'm pleased to see in the reviews a lot of people appreciated this seemingly under appreciated work compared to its homologue in the jump (chainsaw man, jujustu kaisen). It's a pretty full story, I feel like the conclusion was very well brought together. Though I'll have to talk about the final battle later.

I really liked the main characters, Gabimaru and Sagiri and not only themselves but their relationship as criminal and executioner who have difficulties coming to term with each other's point of view, transitioning into a companionship of trust and finally a true bond of affection.
The first chapters did an absolutely amazing job of ...

Jigokuraku is a great manga, having very thought-provoking mysteries and great fights. But let's go by parts.

Characters in the work are great, very charismatic and empathetic. This helps the reader to bond with them and fear for their lives (and rightly so). Not only that, but they are also very well developed from world perception and understanding of life.

The protagonist, Gabimaru, is great, he imposes a presence and has a great journey throughout history. Part of the story's concept is about balance, so he needs to understand empathy to become stronger and he has a development around that.

Jigokuraku's story is good, although it starts out ...

Jigokuraku is a little bit hard for me to describe, because it's not really a genre I'm too familiar with. I've never been big on shounens, let alone historical ones, but something about the style and flow of this series had me so captivated I felt a need to sit down and write about it. From the first chapter, something about it just instantly hooked me with the thought of oh, this will be good. And excellent it was.

This is one of those manga where after I caught up to the ongoing releases, I would wait months before picking it up again. I say this ...

Hell's paradise review:

It's a cliché power fantasy that feels like it should be the final arc of any other manga.

Setting:

The manga is set almost entirely on an island called Paradise. (Spoiler-ish about the design of the island) The island is full of religious body horror monsters with some being quite creative. But the island itself is quite boring besides that which lives on it. The only standout areas in this entire claustrophobic area the manga takes place in is the Palace. The palace has some memorable scenery and is just as wild as the monsters that Guard it. However the fast paced nature of ...

This is one of those "binge reads" that will keep you invested from start to finish and you will not want to put it down.

Personally I divide this manga into 2 parts: the first one being the initial arcs where plot armor is nonexistent and any character could potentially die off, and the second being the latter chapters where the core cast of characters is established and you start to realize that most of them will (probably?) make it. Now typically this type of transition doesn't work, because that lack of plot armor and "danger" is what draws many readers in. However, the author did ...

First review, not gonna be too lengthy. This slaps though, really underrated. Here's why I like it.

Story:
This is isn't some woke out of this world philosophical I'm 14 and this is deep type story, but it's good. A bunch of strong as people sentenced to death are sent to an island to find the mysterious elixir of life for a chance at redemption. It's like a fantasy battle royale type thing, (No not Fortnite) with a good power system and great fighting scenes.

Of course there is more to it than that. The character development is actually quite good, especially for the genre. But I'm ...

The fight to survive and make it back home or find an elixir that is said to grant immortality?

The manga starts off at first like every other manga that takes place during its time period with the added in ninjas for a sprinkle of flavor. The main character starts off seeming like every other, overpowered or just has some kind of tragic backstory that makes them the way they are, Edgey. Now, as I continued to read this manga, it surprised me with how different it actually was. Sure, the main character has a tragic backstory as mentioned (no surprised there) but the way the ...

Given the anime is starting, and this manga had blipped on my radar a few times over the last couple years I figured I'd dive into it. Gotta say this starts off a hard 10, and it remains a 10 until about the 2/3 point. Technically this is a seinen, but if we're honest it's really just a shonen with boobies, thankfully there's more boobies than cheesy fan service, so uh... Win? In any case, the art work is absolutely stunning, maybe not quite berserk levels of detailed but my goodness it's a 9.5/10. Characters are pretty cookie cutter, but you get some nice development ...

Jigokuraku is the perfect, short Shonen manga you've been looking for.

To summarize the manga, there's a ninja called Gabimaru - a criminal - who goes on island to find the 'Elixir of Life' and return to his wife in one piece. Seems interesting however pretty normal for the average Shonen right? The part where Jigokuraku delivers is in the characters and events in this story, specifically the fear it created subconsciously within the readers (those who read with their eyes open ofc).
Upon landing, the convicts admire the island, calling it 'gokuraku' which means heaven, however, as they delve into the secrets of this ...

Mixed Feelings
A rather typical series, it has ninjas, assassins, samurais, it begins as a typical battle royale and later on mutates to a typical fighting shounen.

Aesthetically it takes place in an appropriate time period and setting, and features conventional representations of its factions in fiction. The ninjas try to sneak attacks directed to vital points for a quick kill, they also use elemental techniques, along with close combat and illusions, all similar to what was already shown in Naruto, heck they even use that body replacement jutsu, but since the power scale never goes too crazy in this series, no ability is broken. Also, unlike that ...

Overall a thrilling and some what unique read. Short and simple plot dives into an action packed artistic success. How much you can appreciate the different concepts is up to you.

Story 7.5/10
I felt the series kept the plot line simple with a good start and finish. The taoism religious/cultural theme was different which was refreshing, but hard to relate /understand at times.

Characters 8/10

So the author did a solid job of making you root for the “good guys” and feel their emotions. I would argue most of the villains felt less compelling due to lack of development and were just punching bags/obstacles.

Art 8.5/10

Preliminary (127/128 chp)
Since there are already several reviews, I will keep this brief. Jigokuraku is what the ideal action shounen manga should be. There are many battles, and while they last for more than a chapter or two, they aren’t repeatedly drawn out for 30+ chapters. Most of the characters are fleshed out, even characters introduced towards the end, and there is character development. While as with any action shounen there are convenient deus ex machina moments, it’s not near the level of Dragon Ball Z, and readers will have to say goodbye to characters. The story takes some common story ideas yet manages to create a ...

I had my problems honestly. The Start was amazing, but in the end it was a little...mid. It has a great cast, great art, a good story and I enjoyed the read, but I personally prefer something like "Jujutsu Kaisen" and "Chainsaw Man". I could tell you 50 things that I don't like about Chainsaw Man, but the good stuff in it is an emotional roallercoaster. The same with Jujutsu Kaisen. I don't know. Jigokuraku just feels to "perfect", if you know what I mean. But one thing I gotta say: The cast is LIKEABLE!!!
To make it short: Jigokuraku is good, but no masterpiece or ...

Preliminary (120/128 chp)
I don't feel that there is a lot that can be said about this series, I enjoyed my time with it but it still has its flaws. First off the main appeal for me was the art. The art within this series is sublime, the way fights are drawn and the beautiful environments completely gripped me. The story could have been leagues worse but I would've sticked to the series because of the art. That takes us to the story which is gripping enough but can often grow convoluted. There were points where I found myself totally lost and somewhat frustrated. The characters though are ...

I really enjoyed this manga, and I think most other people would enjoy it as well. Its pretty mature/graphic, but the gore never feels gratuitous. The art is also stellar, and although there is nudity, it rarely comes across as fanservice. I guess the best way to describe how Jigokuraku handles nudity/gore is moderate, which is cool taken how the characters in the manga moderate their emotions to gain power.

The main plot is fine, but nothing stellar. If anything, it is pretty generic shounen stuff. However, the characters are what bring this manga to another level. In one piece fashion, everyone gets a sad backstory, ...

Hell's Paradise was a very artistic manga, with a somewhat complex storyline. I like the way the characters intercated with each other and form bonds through the series. I don't have a favorite character in the series, I belived that all of them had their pros and cons when it came to the main plot. The only issue I do have with the series is that the pace of the story is too fast. It seemed to want to rush through the storyline quickly and get to the final ending. I am worried that because the pace of the manga is too fast, many people ...

This manga was a nice ride for me .I started reading it like 2 months ago and I have to say that it was a pretty enjoyable read.

The story is about a mission in which convicts and their executioners were sent on an island to find the elixir of life that would offer immortality .The convict to bring it to the goverment will get a pardon and be free .Though the island seems not to be a normal one. The series heavily focuses on human emotions and relationships and manages to portray them really well. It is important to mention that the ending was ...

I tried so, so hard to like Jigokuraku. Now I don't mean that in an ill-intended way, like I had heard praises from it from a friend and forced myself to enjoy it to make them happy. No, I mean that the first act of the series, the first 25 chapters or so, were absolutely rocking. Although the premise itself has mad multiple iterations over the times, I could tell Jigokuraku was a fresh take on the unknown arena fight to the death formula.

*Spoilers Ahead*

Gabimaru began as one of my favorite main characters in the beginning. His apathy and brutality signifies the contemporary pattern ...

In terms of story this manga actively tries to subvert common shonen tropes actively leaving readers on edge. When characters start dying you think it starts to go down the death game trope and everyone is going to mindlessly be killed off, but it doesn't. Almost every death has a meaning. On the other hand you think characters will start to defy logic and somehow still be alive suffering mortal wounds, but they don't. At some point you're afraid of it falling prey to power scaling, but the author puts systems in place to prevent that showing how logical and calculated the characters have to ...
