I felt the series kept the plot line simple with a good start and finish. The taoism religious/cultural theme was different which was refreshing, but hard to relate /understand at times.
Characters 8/10
So the author did a solid job of making you root for the “good guys” and feel their emotions. I would argue most of the villains felt less compelling due to lack of development and were just punching bags/obstacles.
Art 8.5/10
The style has detailed art that is grotesque at times and brings that quality S/G vibe along with it. There’s definitely love or hate with style and I’d invite you to make your own impression of the strange island environment. But the “good guys” all are well drawn and in their action panels show real grit.
