Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san, aka Please don't bully me, Nagatoro-san is honestly, pretty different. And in a way that I definitely appreciate!
The plot is simple and to the point. A girl named Nagatoro adores bullying her poor Senpai, and takes immense satisfaction in getting him as flustered and worked up as possible.
Now, if you're not a fan of sadistic girls or a 'character bullies the one they like' trope, then this probably won't be your cup of tea. So far, Nagatoro isn't secretly an adorably innocent girl pining over her Senpai in secret and slightly bullying him, no. She seems to genuinely enjoy it, and
likes seeing his reaction and seems to be doing it simply because she wants to and it's fun.
I really, really like this dynamic so far. It doesn't beat around the bush, and from the title alone, you can see what you're getting into. A girl who loves bullying her Senpai, and her Senpai, who tolerates it because he's got a budding crush on her and also, because he's honestly too weak to fend her off.
Nagatoro and her Senpai are both great so far, and play off of each other well.
Nagatoro, who's blunt, mean, and insults Senpai in the first five minutes of knowing him just because she likes seeing him squirm. She's really endearing in her own right, and comes across cute, even with her sadistic tendencies. Her Senpai is pretty damned adorable too, and as someone who likes when dudes are flustered/cute, I appreciate that ;3c He's just trying to get through life without having a nervous breakdown from Nagatoro's antics, and his crush on her is just great.
The art for this manga is really, really good!! I gotta say, this mangaka has a knack for drawing the cutest expressions while still keeping 'em unique (seriously, I've screencapped so much of this manga solely for some of Senpai's and Nagatoro's expressions in certain panels.) and I adore the designs of both the characters.
Really, really loving this so far (seriously, more stuff like this needs to come out *slides a ten dollar bill to any and all mangaka* please...) and can't wait to read more!
If you're into flustered dudes, sadistic girls, or just unorthadox romance, then this may just be for you!
Edit: Acually, after chapter 6, it's not that bad anymore... although she's still a b*tch, it seems that he likes her that way, makes the manga less dreadful, so whatever.
Have you ever thought, "am I a masochist?", but couldn't find a way to confirm it for sure?
Have you ever asked yourself why do we HATE characters(and humans)?
Have you ever thought about ending it all, but you still need one more push to actually commit suicide?
Then don't worry, you're in the right place for answers!
So first of all, let me start by saying that if someone asks me to describe this manga in one word, I
would probably answer "horrible".
The story revolves around 2 characters, a boy(senpai) and a girl(kohai), and their everyday encounters with each other. The story shows each chapter how they communicate with each other and act around one another, and that's pretty much the story.
Now, you're probably asking yourself, "it sounds just like any other generic romcom manga out there, so why would you rate the score so low?"
Well... it's because I haven't included one more little detail, truly a small, tiny detail that maybe is a little important to the story... and that detail is that the girl(kohai) loves to tease her senpai(the boy) a little too much.
And by loves, I mean everytime they talk to each other.
And by tease, I'm not talking about the cute and slightly annoying teasing that alot of manga and anime pull, no... it's more than that, it's something that some of us have been through in our lifetime, yes... I mean actual BULLYING.
Ok, let's talk about about my -favorite- part of the manga, the characters!
First of all, let us talk about the main character, the male character, Senpai.
Senpai is introducted to us as a teenager who doesn't have any social interaction, mostly living in his own world where he draws, reads manga and draws manga for his own satisfaction.
Senpai also seems to have been bullied quite alot in is past, making him unable to talk and even afraid of people.
Due to him suffering alot from bullying, it seems that Senpai got a new "superpower", most of the time he could just go into his own world, making the bullies lose interest, making him unable to remember their face. Senpai is also extremely weak mentally and physically, making him more sensitive than most people.
Now to the next and last character, the kohai, the girl, her name is Nagatoro, but we'll call her Bakemono-chan for now.
Bake-chan's first appearance was in the first chapter, after a pretty awkward scene that happend to Senpai infront of the GAL GROUP, her friends lost interest pretty fast, but... she chose to stay.
From that moment and forward, she began to bully him, and while most of the things she says about Senpai are mostly true, the way she does these things are, just to say... mostly crossing the f*cking line.
And that's basically how the story and the characters end up being in every chapter, Bake-chan start to bully Senpai about something he does or likes, using that he can't talk properly and weaker than her physically(mostly because she does karate) against him, making him cry and scare him mentaly.
I think that the things she tries to accomplish through her actions are pretty okay, mostly because Senpai does things that need to be criticized some way or another, but the ways she does those things are just... pure sadism.
And what's more, it seems that Senpai actually falls in love with her, and wants to know more about her, and I just think to myself... "WHY", I don't even... wh... maybe he's just a masochist? (still hasn't been proved), but seriously you're actually crying and breaking from it and you just fall in love with her? this is so stupid...
Okay. Let's stop with the bad parts of the manga and talk about the good parts of the manga!
The art and character design is pretty good, pretty detailed, especially in the character's faces and expression, the author did a great job transffering the character's feelings.
The genres aren't right, this manga genres should've been Psychological Horror, and not Romance Comedy, this is not a Comedy, this is a Horror show.
Would I recommend this manga to someone? maybe if this "someone" is masochistic, wants to end it all or has a fetish for BULLYING, then maybe, maybe... maybe maybe maybe..........
No, even then I won't.
Just one more thing that really made me annoyed and mostly the reason why I'm writing this review, some of the reasons why people like this manga (read it in comments of some sites) is that "I'm so happy this manga is pretty ORIGINAL and not like those normal and generic romcom", "This manga is ORIGINAL and if you don't like it go read the shitty generic romcoms", and I'm just reading those comments while asking myself "what. the. actual. heck.".
Since when is "Original" a reason for something to be good? shitcom is pretty original and shows how a couple vomit together, pretty ORIGINAL isn't it?
Also this is a BULLYING manga, this is not original, this is an actual problem in the world (but that's a talk for another day).
The intense form of bullying from Nagatoro will stray many people away for this manga. But I think this is why it shines, as it doesn't bullshit it’s S&M relationship for the purpose of appealing to a broader audience. Im gonna be completely honest; this manga makes me really hard. Don’t take this manga with the idea its supposed to be some masterpiece made to break anime conventions; it isn’t.
Normal High-school setting. Not much else to see
Phenomenal. Both main characters look hot af.
Based more on how they compliment each other then how they are themselves. Nagatoro is really just a thot and Senpai
is your basic self-insert
Need I say my pp hard?
Basically means how it’ll appeal to other, normal, people.
The only way to enjoy this is if you have an S&M fetish.
I love this manga, I’ll be waiting for more chapters.
I’m hoping it doesn’t get stale like Karakai Jouzu no Takagai-san, but I’m only 5 chapters in.
This is my first review so thanks for taking the time to read it lul
Will cut right to the point here, this manga is relatively new but I'm getting quite a bit out of it.
The Mangaka is quick to capture the nuances of what makes anime successful: Cute, relatable, yet exaggerated expressions, anatomical consistency, and lowering the detail for funnier moments.
All executed flawlessly, in my opinion.
Both characters are quite cute, and are designed quite well.
As mentioned with the story, I sincerely hope the Mangaka gives the story a good payoff, it would be a shame to see this end with Senpai legitimately suffering.
Personally, I'm really not enjoying the
lack of development.
I somewhat have the ability to look past this and enjoy how Nagatoro expresses her interest in Senpai in the form of bullying.
It;s hinting at tension......we just haven't seen it resolve yet.
Keeping fingers crossed.
It offers an initially cruel take on the teasing trope, where you legitimately think Nagatoro wants to make Senpai miserable, but eventually there's..moments.
Moments that make it quite clear that she has care/feelings for Senpai
(The art has her blush only around MC, she blatantly follows him, she only teases Senpai but shows blatant bashfulness at times.
The reason I made this a 6-10 is simply the fact that is doesn't seem to be developing at all, suffering a similar fate Takagi-San has.
With a story like this, you want to show a progression of their relationship that heads SOMEWHERE, so you're at least showing that the story has a direction.
Otherwise, every chapter feels the same....and in this case, it really does.
Overall it's a solid 7-10, cute art and equally flawed characters make a cute but...it's REALLY hard to look past the lack of development this story has.
I feel the Mangaka is really missing the cue here to take their relationship SOMEWHERE other than....well.....whatever it's at now.
Finger's crossed for the next couple of chapters...
EDIT: Development occurs after Ch. 6, bumping this up to an 8 out of 10.
