Good overall Nagatoro review, but it kind of feels like it is for a different manga. It goes good and is unique with Nagatoro being hard hitting but in my experience that fell off pretty quickly, maybe to chapter 3? I like that you explain why some people like D/s relationship but it feels odd to include it in a review for a series that mellows out so quickly. To me, that stuff felt like a shock and filter that never comes back. Iirc, by chapter 5 or 10 it's practically just flirtatious teasing.

Now I don't know if I would prefer Nagatoro to keep her energy throughout, since I personally think it would make her a bit of an unbelievable character to always say the type of stuff that made him break down and cry. But still, the rapid mellowing puts me out of sorts with the rest of it, and makes the reputation Nagatoro gets as a light BDSM manga even more bewildering.

As an aside, I don't think Nagatoro is not "ever seen as 'in the wrong' for doing what she does". I'd argued that the chapter 3's apology sort of does have Nagatoro acknowledging that she went too far. With that apology, and the fact that the chapters after become more tame, I see the manga making Nagatoro's earlier behaviors as something that needed to be changed. I think it is a common misreading and an invention of a hopeful mind to see Nagatoro as always in control. The first couple chapters, with the constant blushing, the little nervous energy of Nagatoro, and drawing back of that energy really more seem to me that the author is trying to portray her as a teenager who doesn't now how to express her feelings properly and goes overboard rather than someone who wants to dominate Senpai from the onset.

I'm curious about your thoughts on the above and if you continued reading it bi-weekly? Oh, and have you read the web novel?

based nagatoro review, ignore the smooth brains on here. People read 10 chapters and judge it on that, very cringe

While I personally hate Nagatoro, I'm not here to talk about that. We can agree to disagree. What I found strange, however, was your association between the tsundere trope and girls who "simply need to be 'broken in' by the right man." I hate the tsundere trope more than anything in anime, but... for the exact opposite reason? First of all, we would need "the right man" for that equation to work, but we don't see men in most romcom anime. We see immature little boys who don't have a single dominant bone in their bodies. I've always thought about tsunderes as fanservice for masochist males who want to be stepped on and constantly berated. The victim of the tsundere's venom never goes against her or even shows any sign of distress over being kicked around. Much like Senpai, they secretly enjoy it. I don't see tsunderes being "weak in front of the man she loves." I see them being the exact opposite, with the rare, very rare moment where they blush or DON'T kick their love interest for once. I don't think people go into the tsundere trope because they want a fake dom who needs to be broken in. If you have any examples of tsunderes turning submissive, feel free to give me some recommendations. And no, I'm not talking about stuff like Toradora. I'm talking about role reversal. I'm genuinely willing to change my mind.

Loved your review on Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san

Mm, I know what you mean. I forgot a lot of steins; gate, which is weird because I watched it recently (and I completely forgot about the food part. Characters like that annoy me too sometimes so I get where you’re coming from. Thanks for clarifying. đź‘Ť

Hello, I happened to see that you rated steins;Gate a 1/10. I’ve seen it and looking at the reviews and ratings of the show on MAL, a lot of people rated it highly. I am curious as to why you rated it so low?

Your review of Nagatoro almost made me cry. Not because it was good or I enjoyed it, but because now I feel that I have a greater understanding of how terrible, manipulative, controlling, and corrupt a bully can be to a victim. I'm not going to shame you for being a Dom, in fact I quite like dominant women myself, but it's the way you address a bully/victim relationship that I hold derision for. I have no issue with teasing, with pranks, with bondage, or kinks, but when mocking a persons convictions, art, or character to the point of tears gets you off, then there is something wrong. Even if you know the person "wants it" that is most likely because they have become dependent on the abuse, the same way a prisoner is dependent on the barbed walls and the cell doors, or a soldier is dependent on the war and the carnage, or an addict is dependent on the needle and the rush, or a cutter is dependent on the razor and the blood, or a million other examples of how abuse forces dependency. Like you stated: "The MC has a history of bullying/repression", and Nagatoro exploits that to force dependency. In this example, BDSM is no more "therapeutic" than heroine is to a heroine addict.

I don't want to shame you, at all, for any of your kinks or interests, but I suggest you re-evaluate your view of bullying. It's not cute, especially not when the victim becomes dependent on it.
