This manga requires being read for a few chapters because the story is not what you think at the beginning. At first sight, it might look as an ordinary ecchi-about-to-be-hentai manga but then you will realize that it is a mixture of Gantz and Inuyashiki, in other words, a MASTERPIECE which only Oku sensei might create. JUST READ AND COMMIT THE MIRACLE!
This is LITERALLY the BEST manga I've ever read. It just take 3 chapters for you to know how GREAT this manga is, I'm the smartest person in the world, so I kept reading and it was just getting BETTER! The story is about so much, I may be the "smartest person in the world", but I'm constantly thinking about the themes and messages of the series. Typically I don't write reviews for the things I view but I felt like this one deserved one due to how mixed the reception appears to be. As a fan of Oku who has read his "Big Three" manga, some of which a few times, I think this is one story he was having the most fun with. Not to say he wasn't having fun with Inuyashiki or Gantz, but this one felt way less serious by comparison. We all know how female body-parts have been fetish-ized over and over again in the AV-doujinshi industry. Y'all like kyonyuu on a kyashaa i.e. petit frame? No you say you also want her to be tall and kinda goth? Gigant may take some chapters to get interesting, yes, but once it gets interesting, it's very very VERY good.
It depicts humanity's nature as no other manga. What would happen if a random internet site starts granting every wish people desire? Would we have world peace? Good global economy? No more diseases? Of course not. The world would be total chaos. What would happen if a highschool boy gets the opportunity to know a porn actress? Would he get an autograph or a just a pic cause he's underaged? Last year when I was staying at a hotel in the countryside of Japan, I decided to have a wander around with nothing better to do. I chanced across the hotel's manga library from which the title 'Gigant' immediately jumped out at me. Amongst all the other titles, I felt compelled to pick up Gigant. I began with volume one and eventually found myself having ploughed through all published volumes.
Gigant is not unique. Many of the ideas have been presented before in the author's other works. It is very reminiscent of Gantz. Although they have overlapping features, something about Gigant feels fresh. Something is ...

There are so many stories going on at the same time but Gigant seem to blend them in well. We have Rei's story with him trying to find people to act and make his film. We have Chiho and her ability to grow. And we have the E.T.E (enjoy the End) website causing havoc in the city. Gigant seems to meld all these stories together so it does not seem like 3+ separate stories.

I read this manga in its entirety yesterday and what can I say it certainly was an experience.
The story can basically be reduced down to this: a virgin highschooler meets the love of his life which also happens to be his favorite pornstar; his new found love however becomes increasingly more difficult as the pornstar has the ability to save Japan from the seemingly inevitable apocalypse that is about to go down. Although filled with sex scenes and plot holes the story somehow still managed to keep me hooked, and at times truly amazed me with its absurd originality and weird humor that very rarely even ...

I suppose I should start off by saying, if you are new to reading manga or haven't ever read anything by Hiroya Oku, I strongly recommend, you don't start with this series. Gigant is the epitome of Hiroya Oku manga and his style. Although as of right now, I believe that Gantz is definitely better than Gigant, and I have high hopes for Inuyashiki as well. Getting into this series is simply a learning curve and once you understand Hiroya Oku's manga writing style, you'll understand why the series in itself is great. I find the story very intriguing and the art is just beautiful.

Honestly, this manga is so underrated because people give up on reading it at the first few chapters, but after you go past like chapter 10-15 it turns absolutely awesome so please if you are planning to read this keep reading, it will turn better the more you have progressed in reading it.
the art is 8/10. It looks good, nothing much to say here except everything looks very good. Story 7-8/10 it may start as a weird love story between an AV actress and her fan who is in highschool but it very quickly turns crazy and shows how some people are egoistic and want to watch ...

One of the most bizarre Manga of all time. Oku is clearly not trying to tell a story with a concrete message, but instead is packing the manga full of things he simply enjoys. It should be consumed with that in mind. Seeing A giant titty woman bust outside the innards of a horrifying abomination of a god is something I can only expect from Oku. Also, rarely do manga reference the real world, and none as comedically as Gigant. Being able to understand the references does improve enjoyment. Many things will go over western reader's heads, but there is a surprising amount of mention

Turn the camera on, she a born star" (Kanye West - Hell of a Life) What does this have with Gigant? Well, it's the plot. And aliens of course, it's a Hiroya Oku manga. Although i feel the sci-fi makes no sense at all at first, it's a beautiful drama i'm not gonna lie, and the MAL score just do no justice to it. Manga like jujutsu kaisen or demon Slayer but manga with romance is definitely my favorite! I just love when two characters love for each other flourishes! This manga is a solid 7.5! This will not change you perspective on the manga world and is nothing ground breaking, but the writer knows how to setup a good story and writes it well.

A premise that could legitimately go anywhere, an author given complete creative freedom, and the same person being known for his incredibly weird stories. So much can go wrong, and so much does go wrong, but it works (?).

Well, I won't be able to read any more until August, but here are my thoughts on Volume 1:
It's a Seinen, perhaps jarringly so if you aren't familiar with the author's other work. Pleased to see that it doesn't seem interested in discussing pornography too much, good because that's a complicated topic and a sci-fi manga is not the place. It doesn't idealize high schoolers at all either which is a nice change; and the characters so far seem interesting and a bit more nuanced than you might expect; for example, the boyfriend Ryuji isn't just a worthless violent layabout; he's an insecure worthless violent ... |
