Rei Yokoyamada, a high school boy whose father works for Toujou film production, is inspired to create his own short film with his friends. One day, while out to scavenge actors for his film, he spots a poster of Papiko, an adult video actress with big breasts, stating she lives in the area.
This is LITERALLY the worst manga I've ever read. It just take 3 chapters for you to know how bad this manga is, but I'm not the smartest person in the world, so I kept reading and it was just getting worse!
The story is about SOMETHING, I'm still trying to figure it out. But we have a boy who is fanatic about Papico, a porn actress with bigger breasts than a hentai character, and jerks off every single day watching one of her movies. Oh, he also wants to be a director but that doesn't matter at all! Well,
he meets her by the end of the first chapter and they start one of the most bizarre relantions I've ever seen. The worst part about these "characters" (if I can use this word to describe them) is that they are NOTHING alike a human being! They act like anything but a proper human being, the scenes by the restaurant and the bath made me regret learning how to read. So, I think this manga is about their relationship, which is terribly written and doesn't have a proper development at all.
The art may look pretty at the beginning, but it's nothing special. Actually, it gets even worse, since the author uses a computer to repeat THE SAME FUCKING DRAWING over and over again! He didn't even tried a different angle or composition, it's literally the same picture copied and pasted. And it's not even beautiful, I honestly don't know why people think Oku's art is that great, it may be good, but nothing special.
But the worst part must be the author sucking his own dick through the manga. He makes his characters say: "Hey, have you ever read Gantz or Inuyashiki? IT'S REALLY FUCKING GREAT!". This scene insulted me as a thinking creature, it's one of the most shameful things I've ever seen...
So, plot? There isn't any;
Characters? Terrible, they act like the author wants them to act, not like people would act in those situations. In fact, they just REACT to things happening around them, and not even this they do it properly;
Narrative? Horribly written, there is neither sense of progression nor evolution between the "characters";
Antagonist? THERE ISN'T ANY.
If you really hate yourself and wants to make your soul feel violated, this is the manga for you!
Why you should read Gigant? (After 10+ Chapter Review)
Story is Very Good (8). Gigant is one of those stories that come from the mind of Hiroya Oku, the mastermind behind the hits Gantz and Inuyashiki. This means that you should expect 3 things: bizarre story, high violence and profanity and a sci-fi theme.
The premise of the story is a half blood Japanese AV Idol, Papico gets a mysterious digital dial-like object attached to her that has the ability to gigantify her body. *I can't help myself giggling while writing this*
The first 10 chapters of the story is more of a slice of life focusing on
one of Papico's fan, Rei who develops feelings for his dream girl his journey to be with her. Along with that is the rise of a strange website named ETE (Enjoy the End) which makes poll with weird choices, and whichever gets the highest votes would come true.
It seems like a bland premise right? But as the story progresses and the stage has been set like any other Hiroya Oku's works, everything would be in chaos. This is already eminent to the latest chapter (14) upon writing this review.
Art is Great (9). The art is beautiful for me. The blend of pseudo realistic backgrounds with the character models and the brilliant alien-nano art on the technological aspects of the manga is stunning to look at.
This is one of those things that would keep you glued on a manga drawn by Oku-san it makes the story easy on the eyes and easier to read.
Characters are Good (7). Character-wise, there's not much characters on the story yet and it focuses on Rei and Papico's (Chiho) relationship.
Their characters are still in development but I can clearly see that they are being set up for a huge character change in the succeeding chapters which makes me excited in the anticipation of the next chapter.
All in all, the question here is should you invest in reading the first 10+ chapters of Gigant? My answer is a big YES. And you just need to look at Oku-san's previous works for you to know.
SCI-FI / SURVIVAL
If you are disturbed by SEX SCENES or DEATH SCENES, this is not for you. HOWEVER!, if you are a Gantz fan, you gotta trust the process/manga progress and shouldn't be freak out with those inevitable scenes!
When I reach chapter 15 (potentially the true beginning point of this manga) today, I decided to check out myanimelist to see the score for this manga. Upon seeing the score and reviews, I feel that they don't do this piece of manga justice.
Ok let's get real. Sex is a part of life. Porn exists because of some men's personal need. BUT THE POINT
OF THIS STORY ISN'T BUILD UPON PORN ITSELF. If you read closely and pay attention, there are hints suggesting that something else is happening (this starting style is kinda similar to "I am a Hero") I get that the main female character, Papico is an AV star, but it is just part of the story.
Honestly, I don't get why the rating is so low. Manga shouldn't be judged with only a few chapters. Rather, patience is the key for this kind of manga.
Do you think the legendary Mangaka, aka Hiroya Oku, will start the manga slow for no reason? Do you think his work, Gigant, will solely be based on sex and porn? Trust me... his work isn't that superficial (This statement is supported by the experience of rereading Gantz multiple times and Inuyashiki)
"anonymity" "sci-fi" "sex/love" "survival" are few words that come to my mind when I read this manga; however, this manga is pretty new in terms of its story length. Thus, the best range I can to this story is actually a range from 7-10. I give it a 9 because of I have faith that this quality of the manga has the potential to match up to that of Gantz (hopefully with a better ending though :x ). Let's go Hiroya <3
ok, for real though, this is not even an argument, like... background and characters are all on point... jeez... the details... I can't even... 10 10 10101010
There are still so many questions regarding the characters themselves, but we are only a few chapters in. There are definitely going to be more and more characters coming in and I am extremely curious about the character who controls the voting website. (-1 for potential oncoming mistakes)
Enjoyment: 10 (Biased, but with the trust of the author and personal patience)
When I first knew the manga, I read through the first 5 chapters without stopping. So far, I am still following and enjoying the updates.
Again, with such few chapters, it is hard to land a score for this category
When I write this review, the rating was 6.04 from 616 users. I am placing my bet against the majority of these low scorers that this manga is going to blossom into a beautiful flower with time and patience.
This manga has to be witnessed to be believed. Not because it is good or anything, no no. Because it is insane, with a capital I!
So the story is about this 16 year old kid, who wants to be a director, and he and his nerdy friend constantly make some references to popular western movies. But no, the kid isn't our main protagonist, the real protagonist of the story is Papico, who is also a AV (porn) actress, and lives with her pet dog and abusive boyfriend. Who hits her, but cries like a bitch after she strikes back?! Whatever. The kid is her
number one fan btw, and you guessed it!
In the end of chapter one, the kid (Rei Yokoyamada) meets Papico. And they become friends ... and stuff happen. And old geezer gets hit by a car, Papico is the only witness to this, he gives her a disk and attaches a device to her hand which enables her to shrink or grow, after that he turns into a doll. When her boyfriend witnesses her giant form in their apartment, his first reaction is to tell her that this will look awesome in her AV movies. And then we have a panel immediately cutting to her producer and Papico showing him that she can enlarge, and then a panel immediately how she gets fucked by two guys in her giant form, while she is being filmed. So, in short, if you got a giantess fetish ... what are you doing reading this review? Go read the manga, pronto!
So after she beats up her boyfriend and stuff happens, she and the kid kinda end up together. But the way it happens is really comical. He basically trows a pity party and cries hard enough in a restaurant, so Papico decides to date him for him to stop crying. And in the midst of all of this there is a strange website called E.T.E.It consists of various user created polls, and the ones who get the most votes become reality. So by that way in Kanto it rained SHIT!
By this point you may think that I am crazy, cause everything I'm describing right now is pretty nuts, but no. I'm actually still trying to understand what I have just read myself. I'm doing my best here to give you a summary of the events that take place in the first 14 chapters or so. I do not want to spoil anymore, cause after chapter 15 stuff kinda become stale and really boring fast.
The artwork for this ain't good either. Compared to Gantz or Inuyashiki, it is kinda stale and the body proportions are really weird. Do you remember the big breasted ladies on the covers in the first 100 chapters of Gantz? Well our main female protagonist is one of those girls. Some may like it, I don't.
The scenery is also pretty basic and uninspired, compared to the stuff we saw in Gantz and Inuyashiki. Also the monster designs suck, sadly. As for flow from scene to scene ... it is horrendous. The panels have no flow, and this manga seems to transition from scene to scene with little to none care given. Aside from everything being confusing, it only adds to the comical nature of the work.
Characters are like every Oku Hiroya manga out there, exactly. What characters?! Only characters note to mention are two, Rei and Papico. She is big tits, he is small pussy, the perfect couple.
So I think Oku outdid himself here. He says that he wanted to do something nobody else has done and he really did. Also do you remember the constant references to Gantz in Inuyashiki? He does this here too, but very subtly compared to his previous work. In chapter 14 I think, where Rei recommends to Papico to go read Inuyashiki and Gantz cause they are pretty good ... and yes he is right. Compared to Gigant, those two are magnum opuses of storytelling!
So what else can I say? If you want to see something so absurd to make memes out of this is the manga for you!
It has everything from really cringe inducing romance, to kaiju battles between a giant chick and an cyborg angel who can fire kamehamehas, to softcore porn, and some really shitty dialogue.
This manga is trash, but it's enjoyable trash. Now excuse me, I need to go read something else to remind myself what a real manga is like, cause I think I lost some brain-cells after this one.
