Synopsis

Reiji Hakuba suffers from a genetic condition most men would yearn for: the Ubermale gene, which makes him appear irresistibly handsome to any girl who sees him. On the eve of his 18th birthday, Reiji learns that this gene also affects supernatural beings when cupid princess Kokoro Roko Rokoko appears to profess her love for him. Despite all the admiration, Reiji adamantly refuses all confessions as he has his own crush: childhood friend Shizuku Ichinomiya, the only girl he knows who doesn't fawn over him.

However, the outcome of his recent confession to her is still up in the air as Shizuku is unsure of how she feels about him. As a result, Reiji is still fair game, and Kokoro isn't the only supernatural being after him; a whole mob of otherworldly ladies begin to enter Reiji's life intent on claiming him as their groom. Respecting Reiji's resolve to win over Shizuku, Kokoro decides to protect Reiji from the other admirers, all while attempting to win his heart and make him fall for her instead.

As a part of the JUMP START initiative, the first three chapters of Love Rush! were published in English in VIZ Media's digital Weekly Shonen Jump on the same day as the Japanese release. After, the series was added to VIZ Media's Weekly Shonen Jump lineup. The volumes were published digitally by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump imprint on January 28, 2020.

Really good short read.

The story was great, but i wished they didnt rushed to the end and could have at least made a arc for each girl.
Characters are different yet somewhat cliche imo, nothing wrong with that, a shy succubus was a cute and refreshing image. Like i said if there were arcs added for each character to go in depth, it would be great.
The manga did its purpose imo, enjoyed it nonetheless. Just kinda feels weird that the ending was quick and hits like a truck.MC does choose which is why i kinda feel bad for the girls, especially this one girl in ...

Short lived but really entertaining Manga.

Love Rush showed a lot of promise to myself as i was reading the weekly chapters, i was immediately sold on the artstyle which is so beautiful and the interesting take the author took on the harem/romance genre.

It had me hooked in from day one and just could not wait for the next chapter to come our each week and was looking forward to how the story would develop and the new types of characters we would meet.

Set in a fantasy setting also provided great opportunity to explore different races and potentially even realms.

Mixed Feelings

Love Rush reminds me of the little sibling between Nisekoi and Rosario + Vampire. A lot of people talk about how cliche the story is, and when the first three chapters came out I was one of them, but after taking another look at this short-lived romcom I couldn't help but feel the shackles it was trying to get out of.

Monsters exist, and because of a certain sexy uber gene, one normal high school boy is soon the most sought-after mate on the planet. What I found to be really impressive in the first few chapters is the main character's determination. While the plot does ... sound cliche, the characters act against what's expected from them.

The "harem" isn't typical. What's unique about this harem is that there are a few who do like the main character, but oddly enough the atmosphere is always friendly, not romantic, and I think that's mainly because of how the main character acts. He's very understanding and doesn't get flustered in the usual way a shonen protagonist would when surrounded by girls. Honestly, he takes his time to get to know why they're after him and then telling them what they need to hear. Sure, he gets into some crazy antics, but at the end of the day he's very solid, unwavering when it comes to his relationships.

One aspect that I truly appreciated -- and I don't think it's as noticeable in this short run compared to if it ran longer -- was the different types of love one can experience. During the werewolf chapter, there's this brief interaction between the werewolf girl and her dad where she asks him if he ever loved her mother. He said yes, but because his relationship was more of an arranged marriage his response was more mature and not something you'd expect from a shonen title. There are small hints like that throughout the series with all the girls, which makes this cancellation hurt more after realizing that they had so much potential.

The biggest potential was the main character's crush. His love is toward his childhood friend, but she can't feel love. Or rather, she doesn't understand his perspective of love because her perspective is different. Now, the manga never comes out and says it, but I'm 99% sure that she's on the asexual spectrum, because even by the end while she has her answer as to what love means to her, it's still very different from the main character's understanding.

Sigh. This was a fun short read, of which I judged too harshly when it came out. It genuinely could have gone on a long time and I think the foundation set up for some uncharacteristic character arcs. Looking back on this there's really only potential left on the table.

Oh, and it only has 13 chapters, but I guess MAL included the one-shot pilot to make it 14?
