Ah yes, the classic post-first-date thoughts where you just can’t get the other person out of your head. Except Rintaoru is making it super obvious that something’s off with him lmao. But after the last couple episodes, he’s closer with his boys, so they can tell something’s up even if he doesn’t say it outright. He still doesn’t spill everything, but finally inviting them over to the crib is a step in the right direction, wanting to keep fewer secrets. I mean, they’re your boys; they’re not gonna do anything crazy, dw lol.
Seriously though, somebody give my real best girl, Rintaoru’s mom, the award she deserves already. She’s basically thrown up every assist for this guy at this point lmao. She’s just so fun to watch too; any time she interacts with Rintaoru’s friends it’s pure comedy. It was also fun seeing Rintaoru finally admit why he dyed his hair and got piercings... because he thought it was cool, simple as that lolololol. Obviously there’s more to it than that, but at face value yeah, that’s really it. Backstory was just too sweet, not just because we got to see a little oomfy Rintaoru but also because even back then his mom was so caring. His dad and brother were there too, wonder if we’ll get more of them in the future, but time will tell ofc.
But for now, just my GOAT is enough to suffice. Seriously, that backstory was even better than Rintaoru’s, fully cements her as best girl... NO COMPETITION.
It's raining heavily, and Rintaro shows up to class with a gaze scarier than usual. He has been behaving irregularly recently, ever since he came to terms with his feelings towards Kaoruko. Shohei asks if himself, Saku and Ayato can visit Rintaro's house. Although he recalls some negative comments in his past, he recalls that he wishes to be honest with them, hence Rintaro agrees.
They are amazed to find out that Rintaro's family owns a bakery. Kyoko is visibly excited, since it's Rintaro's first time inviting his friends over to his home. As Rintaro's friends settle themselves down, Kyoko shows up with Kaoruko and Subaru, asking if they can join them for lunch.
Kaoruko initially came to buy cakes with Subaru, but Kyoko invited them up to join Rintaro and the boys for lunch. Rintaro is more conscious of Kaoruko, and when she worries about her appearance, Subaru reassures her. When eating, Shohei asks Rintaro why he chose to dye his hair blonde and pierce his ears. He shares that in the past, his parents brought him to a patisserie with delicious cakes. He was full of admiration towards the chef with blonde hair and pierced ears who looked very happy making cakes. When he shared with his family members about his decision, they were supportive of him. Shohei and Kaoruko note how amazing a friend Rintaro is. Kyoko, overhearing their conversation, is touched by their words.
When Ayato and Kaoruko ask Kyoko about why she dyed her black her blonde, she claims she did it in the spur of the moment. A flashback reveals that Rintaro had said that he had chosen to "give up on everything". After witnessing him having the courage to ask, she decided to dye her hair blonde and pierce her ears first to reassure him to do the same. She is grateful that he has supportive friends who can see how kind-hearted he is.
The group of six proceed to play a competitive racing game after finishing lunch. They are excited about the upcoming summer break, but Subaru reminds the boys that there are still exams before that. Kaoruko suggest having a group study session.
I’ve been waiting for this episode… with all my heart! Ahh… it brought back my tears. Anyone who read my comment on Chapter 22 will understand what I mean.
Chapter 22 is titled A Mother’s Love! 💕💕
And I love my mother more than anything in this world… even more than myself! To see an episode like this… it touches the heart! Don’t let your feelings and emotions die, my friends. Forget about Waguri, forget about the anime itself, and just focus on the moment when Rintarou simply said “Thank you.” That’s it! He didn’t bring her a million dollars, he didn’t buy her a mansion with servants—no, nothing like that. Just one word: Thank you! And look at how happy the mother was!
One word! Would you be stingy with your mother over a single word? Would you hold back from the person who gave birth to you and cared for you? (Of course, excluding bad mothers who don’t deserve the title—I’m talking about real mothers!)
I’ve mentioned this in Chapter 21, I think, and in other places too. I firmly believe that the position or title of Mother is the highest a human being can ever reach! A woman should be proud to be a mother. Why? Simply because a mother raises the next generations, taking responsibility for nurturing a human being—the greatest creation on earth!
You might say, “But technology, science, and all that…” Well, take a step back: all of that exists because a mother raised a person, and that person went on to invent and create. Yes, the mother is great!
I don’t know, I feel really emotional. I love my mother, I love all the mothers who sacrifice for their children, and I love you all too, haha! Let’s say our usual line: see you next week with a new comment. Until then, keep smiling…

Here’s a challenge for you! Can you accept it???
The challenge is simple:
Either write a message expressing your love for your mother, just like the title of that manga chapter A Mother’s Love.
Or do like I did—send a message with the words “I love you, Mom” (or write whatever you want).
Or go to your mother quietly, hug her, kiss her hands and forehead, and tell her face to face how much you love her!
If your mother has passed away, and you still want to join the challenge, of course, write about the thing you loved most about her! And we will all share our condolences together and remember her with kind memories! Because in truth, she hasn’t really died—she is alive in all our hearts.
I’ll tell you a secret: I already did this, hahaha. Don’t believe me? You’re all evil!
I’ll put a new conversation alongside the old one, because I never get tired of saying I love you, Mom!
“I swear I’m getting old” 😭 y’all HELP I’m so emotional, this episode was soo sweet. Rintaro’s mom is the best mother any child could ask for, she does so much and doesn’t expect a thank you or any praise, that’s why she deserves it the most! Rintaro you are so blessed to have the best friends, best mother and best soon to be gf anyone could ask for, bro won in every aspect of life.
This episode felt like a nice reflection on just how far Rintaro’s come. At the start of the story, he was alone, helping his mom in the shop after school. Now his house is so full of life with friends coming over and it’s all thanks to his hard work, breaking down barriers, being the sincere bundle of love that he is. Idk what the kids in elementary school were thinking because Rintaro is the kind of friend everyone should want.
The way you can see the genuine relief in his mom’s eyes that he has such good friends and she doesn’t have to worry about him being lonely anymore. She didn’t wanna tell him about it so as to not pressure him, but every parent wants to make sure their kid’s accepted and making friends.
The fact Rintaro started dyeing his hair because he idolised the baker in the shop is soo sweet. That’s such a pure reason and to think, people assume he’s a delinquent because of it. Whole time dude is just a cake maker at heart lol. His mom dyeing her hair so he didn’t feel alone or too awkward is just another example of her being the best mother anyone could ask for!
Peep how shy Subaru is at the start, she’s still a little nervous around guys, but once Rintaro mom compliments and thanks her for being his friend she instantly gets more comfortable and relaxed. I love her sm. Amazing episode as per
Gee, they got me tearing up right before the ED there! Rintarou’s very conscious of all the efforts his mother has made and that realisation of hers was just perfection. Highlight of the episode and one of the finest moments of the series without a doubt so far. A young kid saying he’ll give up on everything is an extremely sad reality and I’m so glad that he’s found true friends in the group.
It’s kind of funny seeing how Rintarou is still reeling from the damages from the date and honestly, can you blame him xD? Subaru’s starting to notice things, I’m sure…

@Marinate1016 Now, Rintaro’s mom, Kyoukoor, or Liu Liu? 😶
Kyouko best anime mom ever, such love and care for her child places her in league of her own. Truly one of the best characters in the series.
And a little trivia in this episode since I saw people asking:
About brother and father. Bro will appear in story later on during a family visit and during the kitchen scene when Kyouko is telling her employees that Rintaro is having some friends over you can actually see dad in the back. He is the third person, on the far left. Working to the death in making next cake. xD
A great episode giving the background of Rintaro. The meeting at Rintaro's house was very special and it is great seeing how all the friends get together!!
Damn... is just no fair to be crying this ugly everytime I finished each of this episodes. And this was particularly wholesome. Rintarou should be protected at all cost and her mother deserves the world for her.
Wow, this show is nothing less than a masterpiece. Ill overlook the amount of sorrys in the plot as a Japan thing, but other than that its literally perfect. Art, animation, VA, story, characters variety, almost unbelievable.
Solid 10/10, dunno how I never stumbled upon the manga when its one of my favorite genres, but who cares. Now that I have skimmed trough it (don't want to spoil myself on the anime too much, will definitely read it once it finishes) it will be a crime against humanity not to have a second season for this. Its literally the top romance anime/manga in my list now, with nothing even coming close to it.
Yup, the best part was the flashback with the mom. Now that she can see her son having fun with such wonderful friends, I'm surprised that she holds it so much. I would've broken down crying of happiness.
This episode was so good that I actually cried while watching it. That backstory for Rintaro about his hair and how his Mom went out of her way to dye her hair and get piercings as well, was really emotional for me. The part where Rintaro said "I'm going to give up on everything." was the part where I cried and that part is something I can relate to.The things she did so that Rintaro could have a good life is absolutely respectful and I love her for that. She really is a good Mom and shes just the best Mom in anime. Everything about this episode was done perfectly and will be my favorite for who knows how long. I love this episode so much.
Rintarou has an amazing family seriously, you can tell they all love him especially when they immediately supported a decision so bold like getting piercings/dying your hair. But man for your child to tell you he's given up on everything is just the worst thing you could possibly here. Like man that hurt me on another level.
Kyouko was definitely buzzing seeing the difference between now and back then, has a group of amazing friends and has even fallen in love. I know she definitely picked up on that this episode.
Subaru was also really cute this episode, she's still very introverted around the guys and honestly I imagine jumping from never talking to guys to going to a guys house with a group she only recently just met was probably hard.
Also I gotta say Shouhei is amazing, he's basically the icebreaker of the group. Like without him I imagine it would be a lot more awkward since really their not super talkative yet only Really Shouhei, Rintarou and Kaoru are really talking between both groups. Saku, kind of Ayato and particularly Subaru are still warming up to eachother.
The most surprising part was that Rintarou has a brother, I honestly pictured him as the only child type. I wonder if we'll ever actually see him or more of the father. I did notice at the end of the episode after the post credit scene where they show a bit of extra stuff their was that character profile for Kyouko and towards the bottom it said she's worried for his health. So idk he could be sick maybe or overworking himeself perhaps
Lovely, lovely episode. Love that tension between Rintaro's low expectations informed by his awful past experiences and, well, how lovely his friends actually are. I was already kinda feeling the burn with all the validation Rintaro was receiving, but when the camera panned over to his mom overhearing everything, I sorta broke. Great episode.
Is it not blatantly obvious to literally everyone in the room that Rintaro is completely in love with Kaoruko? Is it just because they're kids and can't tell? Like, hello???
EDIT also thank you @Rsma130 I love your screenshot barrage every week, so many frames in this show are just stunning.
Quite an emotional yet very beautiful episode, showing the struggles of Rintaro and the subsequent sacrifices of his mother, and how they came so far from where they were. What a lovely bond they both have ❤️
Easily the best episode of Kaoru Hana for me, despite not showing much focus on Kaoruko. Hoping it continues to be this way and blossom relations between all the characters very well.
Perfection yet again, not a moment lacking in pure positivity and kizuna spirit. Nice to see a clean sweep in the comments too, no complaints.
I never would have thought all those years ago that the voice of shy little Mio in K-On would one day be that of the most compassionate mom in history. Thanks Yoko Hikasa for a great job 👍🏼
It's already common sense not to watch anime in public, and yet circumstances had me do so. It's such a struggle not to let my tears flow out too obviously. It's still flowing even as of now.
Beautiful mom ! 💖
She took the initiative to dye her hair and get her ears pierced for her son. We also got a glimpse of Rintaro's dad and elder brother. This family has so fine looking men, haha
I hope we would get to see more of them in the future.
So glad that Rintaro was able to have his friends at home..finally !

@FutoiOtaku oh, that was Yoko Hikasa. Couldn't even tell that it was her.
yeah, this one did it. i am genuinally out of words to write.
Just like the weather at the start of the episode I had a sore mindset going in. I had been scrolling through social media (yeah, thats one me). And so I thought something terrible might happen or unforunate incident might occur or a drama event might play out in front of me. Instead, I got slapped with the most HEART WARMING scene by far this season. SHIT THAT STINGS.
yeah no, im not writing anymore than that, fuc this.
rating time,
plot: 10/10
friendship, connections, bonding and more
theme: 10/10
thankfulness
characters: 10/10
Usami gets MVP. bro is butter when it comes to he's words
ost: 10/10
the rain and everything else adding to the reministe feeling and coziness of it all makes this episode feel warm from the sounds alone.
overall: 10/10
ahem, its a great episode.
anyway, yeah thats all she wrote. Imgoingtogobuymoretissue bye
Love how Rintaro is starting to realize that his friends are more than able to understand him and how he should open up with them, more often.
Lmao, even his mom is peeping how much of a crush that he has on Kaoruko.
While Rintaro's story isn't anything crazy, what makes this so good, is mainly how it affects him and those around him. Having a loving family that communicates well makes life 100x easier. Hence, the actions that his mother took in order to make Rintaro feel comfortable in his new appearance despite the troubles that he had prior.
Ngl, I expected myself not to tear up, but damn when he said "Thank You", I just couldn't hold it, lol. I think we all want to collectively appreciate our parents or the significant figure in our lives, who has made us who we are today and onwards in life. That's why this moment is so damn beautiful to me.
Only a few words, Kyouko is the G.O.A.T mother.
I believe this is the ep that truly gets ppl to love this series, tho it's up to those who love a slow burn and can endure it.
This ep adapted from ch 20-22 with sum direction changes and a few panels removed, but they're kinda irrelevant so it's fine.
10/10
