seems like it actually is an Anime so it should be added to the database.

Animation by Telecom Animation Film (so a Japanese studio)

Director and Writer - Takashi Sano (director of Tower of God/Kami no Tou)

While I'm looking forward to this, I really prefer the fanmade opening to this

Trying to watch all available anime series so you won't have to anymore, the list of anime I can recommend is still in progress, tho

Problem is , it's made for Adult Swim , so the American market.
It doesn't meet the "Japanese Anime for Japanese market" rule... so it probably won't be added.
It's not the first season either , there was a previous one of 5 episodes in 2020/21.

Uzumaki is also made by Adult Swim and it has an entry here. Star Wars Vision was made by Disney and it is also here. Rick and Morty should definitely also be added.

I think it has to do with the Japanese releases.
As far as i know , the first Season of Rick and Morty : The Anime never was available in Japan.

But those rules about the markets are always complicate to understand.
Hard to say if they are truly respected.

I don't really get your point D:
The first season obviously wasn't available in Japan because it hasn't released yet. Rick and Morty is also pretty popular in Japan, as are Star Wars and Suicide Squad. While Star Wars and Suicide Squad have entries here, Rick and Morty doesn't, which shouldn't be the case.

Those 5 episodes are not in the database because they never got released in Japan : https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=140439&show=400

It seems like the mods are waiting for more infos about the Japanese release to see if it needs to get added.

Star Wars: Visions is on Disney+, which is available in Japan. Suicide Squad Isekai is produced by Warner Bros. Japan, the same people who were responsible for Ninja Batman, which means it will be screening in theaters in Japan. Adult Swim is an American channel which is not accessible in Japan. There is Cartoon Network Japan, but it doesn't look like they show the adult-oriented animated series. That said, the five seasons of Rick and Morty are on Netflix Japan and some other Japanese streaming services, so I think it is possible this will show up on one of them too. Again, it has not been officially denied yet, just sitting in queue limbo before they make up their mind.

The short films are accessible in Japan on the Adult Swim YouTube channel (this is not part of the upcoming series). I tested that it can be accessed in Japan, not to mention that it was advertised by Studio Deen and contains many Japanese comments. The issue MAL has is based on the Adult Swim channel, which is located in the United States, and thus is not part of the market focus? It's a pretty baffling decision too be honest, considering it was made by Japanese, and that the Japanese are advertising them and watching them directly on the channel, but we'll see if they will ever be open to reconsidering this decision.

It's produced by Takashi Sano of Telecom Animation Film. Original voice actors perform in Japanese. I call it an anime.
Also: there is Chinese productions in the database produced in China and voiced in Mandarin

So this thing (whatever the hell it has been) has already aired 8 out of its 10 episodes. Its director/writer/storyboarder, Takashi Sano, is Japanese. It's animated by a Japanese studio. It's currently airing with Japanese audio every Saturday night on Toonami. It is anime by any feasible definition of that word. Why has there been no motion on this either way?

Scott Pilgrim should also be here Japanese studio, Japanese voice actors so it's also an Anime so it should also be here and if someone say the staff should also be Japanese then that's really racist of them no question. The rules of what defines an anime here is really inconsistent since Chinese and Korean cartoons are also here but they aren't Anime but they have their own name.

I didn't even have any skin in the game with Scott Pilgrim, but yeah, that decision was an absolute farce. Multiple people posted evidence directly refuting the rejection reasons--everything from Science Saru having creative control from the beginning, to the show actually being marketed in Japan--and yet the response was "nope, still not anime!" Like, at some point just admit that you made a mistake instead of doubling down on it. Even if you do consider it an edge case, what harm is there in allowing said edge case instead of angering a bunch of fans? And yeah, it's even more ridiculous when the database contains Chines and Korean-animated works over a Japanese-produced and animated work marketed in English-language countries. (Nothing against said works, I'm sure there are some really good things there, but I have to think they're a niche interest among the site's userbase).

The broader issue is that these sorts of international co-productions are just going to keep getting more and more common as big streaming companies invest in anime projects. At some point MAL needs to make a better determination on how to handle these things. Because right now, you have their Japanese creators referring to them as anime, them being marketed as anime, and pretty much every other reputable database like ANN or AniDB treating them as anime...and yet here's MAL saying "well ackshually they're not really anime because Reasons!" It's a bad look.
