Because most people rate almost randomly. It is not just MAL, it's everything. Almost everyone agrees that GoT's last couple seasons were significantly worse and yet it has 9.2 on IMDb.

Also, some people just stopped watching the series at some point or left imdb altogether, but their ratings still exit. MAL doesn't have this problem, because it splits anime on seasons. |

@Ki11grave Are you aware of the fact that most people rate the show when they finish it? So after 8 season and not after 1. So it doesn't matter that 10% rated the first season and never finished the show, when the 90% rated after the last season.
If you check for example the episode ratings, you can see that the last season's episodes were rated on average more than 150k people, while previous seasons' are 40-50k on average.

| @ktg No, majority of people rate shows before it is finished. I mean, come on, Stragner Things is the third most voted show on the website. And let's look at Wayback Machine. Right before the final episode was released, Game of Thrones had 1.488 million votes and one months later it had 1.552 million. And one more month later it had 1.565 million. It doesn't look like 90% of ongoing watchers rated the show after it ended. Anyway, my take was that if imdb had split series into seasons, then GoT's season 8 would've had a bad rating. Like it happened here with Promised Neverland. On imdb the anime had 8.7 rating (before season 2 started releasing) with 16k votes, but almost a month after it stopped airing it had 8.6 with 25k. Now it has 8.2 with 45k. In conclusion, if you want to know the true rating of the show on imdb: count episodes' average by season, because a lot of people just rate season 1 and then forget. MAL, once again, doesn't have this problem. P.S. The Witcher is another good example. Was 8.2, now 8.0. |

| @Emblemz Pretty much this. People tend to be much more vocal when espousing negative opinions of something. Most people like/dislike something and move on with their lives without feeling the need to espouse how they feel on social media. You get the fringe elements of both extremes, but the ones with criticisms whether valid or not, tend to be more outspoken, which makes it seem like they're a larger number than they actually are. The more popular something is, the more of them there are, which only reinforces the belief that the more popular something is, the more hated it is. |

| @ktg That's because IMDB's system combines all the seasons. Keeping the fact that people would have rated it earlier than s1, and would be unlikely to go back and change their rating it's pretty damn obvious that the score is from the earlier seasons. IMDB has always had this massive biased. Shows that start weak but get great, have a much lower rating than shows that start great but turn into shit because of that. |

| I have no idea why these animes are so highly-rated and their high rating mostly comes from just animation. If someone say Jujutsu Kaisen is a masterpiece, then i can easily say that guy never read single book in his entire life. |

But you are not letting people voice their opinions about how these people who shit on things without a reason are annoying. Amazing.... Like, why is that giving baseless opinions on media is fine but someone finding this behaviour annoying is not? If you are annoyed by people asking for justification for having a differing taste, you should remind yourself: "am i annoying in their PoV when i am barging into a peaceful conversation to shit on something people are enjoying?"
