The beginning is good
the middle is good
the ending is a bit confusing
looks like the writer got lost after the timeskip
It's better to have a good cliche ending than something totally different and strange
I agree with the part "the best saga is Eren vs Titans" after it went to human vs humans it was just disgrace.

As people said before, it is probably an "end of an era" type of anime.
There will probably be more hype and trendy shonen anime, but something like AoT is rare.
While I can see that ending is probably not for everyone's liking and I can understand why, but for me personally - it hits hard. Especially that ending montage.
With the rest of the main cast visiting Eren's grave, growing old and dying. With going futuristic "war never changes" ending montage, in which humanity can still destroy each other just fine without Titans or Eren's help.

Definitely one of the most top anime out there, and I really enjoyed the journey.

Oooof damn, I predicted this exact shit happening and I am not happy. One of the best series ever, and I have to say the ending does not live up to the expectations and standard set by all of what was before 😐
Still I would recommend the series to anyone, it had so many great moments and twists.

Also how did Mikasa get back to Paradis on foot before the head decayed in her arms 🤔

Edit: for the record, I have never read a single panel of the manga so my opinion is based solely on the anime.

Kinda disappointed they've changed the last scene with Levi being on screen. In the manga it was quite beautiful and very emotional sight to see him on the wheelchair not alone, but together with Gabi, Falco and Onyankopon. Especially Falco pushing his wheelchair and Gabi smiling made this scene for me. It was like they were a perfect replacement for Isabel and Farlan. "So ist es immer" appeared immediately in my head while reading this last chapter for the first time. In the anime they've made it look like Levi didn't need anyone anymore, which was kinda sad. Almost like Mappa didn't care at all about his best arc "No regrets".

As an anime-only who was still spoiled for about half the things that were going to happen, I'm still trying to figure out what made manga readers so revulsed by the ending that they cried "worst ending ever" etc. From what I watched in this final episode, it was all meshed together very well. The "contradictory" stuff wasnt really contradictory at all. It all came together for an emotional finale.

Actually makes me pretty sad that this titan of an anime, pun intended, is brought down by people who expected something different at the end?

Idk, I'm just confused I suppose.

That flash forward through time for the ending, even that kid finding the tree... history is doomed to repeat itself. Damn. Eren was just the latest mass extinction event in the long history of Earth.

The ending was spoiled for me from the manga but seeing everything animated so perfectly was incredible.
@Vysarine Didn't realize you had seen it already but...

OMG it was so beautiful and made me so emotional. The music too adds to it, and the theme being by Linked Horizon, the guys who did the first three OPs and the fifth one just adds to that.

Just for reference: The manga originally ended with the Mikasa scene, all those scenes after with the whole destruction of the island and kid about to become the next Ymir, those were added in the volume release because people weren't happy that there were just no consequences for Eren's actions.

It made me cry so much and realize some things, which you know from earlier...

But damn the PAD is hitting really hard right now. On the same level Eureka Seven and Hi Score Girl hit for me.

Despite many people's complaints I loved AoT's ending. Not perfect, surely, but it was quite fitting and also made lots of sense.

As we saw via the ending credits Paradis remained safe for hundreds of years -perhaps even a couple of thousand- but eventually war reached it again.

So it seems it was time for the power of the Titans to be revived, this time via a curious war survivor boy. A potential sequel option? Nah, I doubt it. The story is complete. Most likely the war sequences and the boy at the end meant to show how history repeats itself and war never ends.

Mikasa, naturally, never forgot Eren, nor did she get over him apparently. I doubt she found another love - no one can compete with a dead guy, particularly an over-idealized one.

I think the final three chapters were better than the previous three chapters and the rest of the final/4th season. Not quite season 3 Part 2 material but almost there.

It took me hours to watch them, with multiple breaks and rewinds, because I didn't want the story to end. I shed quite a few tears too. Powerful stuff and a great ending of a beloved story. 💖

Ymir with Stockholm Syndrome on steroids, looked at Mikasa and said "This girl is almost as problematic insane love as I. She is the one."

So Historia still holds power?

Would be funny if in that post-apocalyptic end, Eren appear and say "Hey, kiddo. Want some titanic powers?"

Though we did have a bit of recap sort of, or it was just them playing the last few moments of that first episode, it didn’t take long until we jumped into the crux of the matter… when Armin declared his willingness to see the extent of freedom Eren claims to have. Though talks were fine and all, I liked how Eren deployed the 9 titans of the past to obliterate his “used-to-be” friends in the most ruthless way lol.

Pieck did go the obvious “he ain’t my friend so I’ve no hard feelings in taking his head” but jesus christ war hammer piped her like there’s no tomorrow. But what followed was crisp as heck action sequence with odm gear like the old times, where everyone got a chance not only to shine but literally become a star, but that was too short lived, as the moment Armin got taken inside the mouth of this huge ass titan, you know where we were leading to…

… the appearance of the Falco’s flying titan with Annie and Gabi riding his back and saving our avengers just at the right time, very convenient indeed. Sometimes I think the author literally hated Eren, I mean not only the plot armour was as heavy as a star for these people when they were fighting, but even Armin who got eaten, ended up in the paths. Ended up in the paths.. had a conversation with Zeke, and you know his charisma, he can even lead the baddest and dirtiest people out there to change their… thoughts to an extreme extent.

Levi FINALLY KILLED Zeke, and for sure this time, it’s the finals of the final. Though plenty happened in between, but I mean if there’s one thing which I could not get out of my mind was Mikasa's dream… THE WHAT-IF. WHAT WOULD’VE HAPPENED IF EREN THAT DAY INDEED DECIDED TO RUN OFF WITH MIKASA AFTER CONFESSING HIS FEELINGS. Though that’s just a big if in the end, as we know what transpired after that….

… Mappa literally adapted that whole sequence panel by panel where Mikasa CUT EREN’S HEAD OFF AND LITERALLY KISSED HIM.. jesus we didn’t need that with this precision right? Then why lol. And no this ain’t the only thing which we as viewers didn’t want to see in the adaption. THEY ADAPTED THE INFAMOUS, “ I WANT MIKASA TO THINK ABOUT ME AND ME ONLY EVEN AFTER I DIE.. FOR 10 YEARS AT LEAST” , and Eren acting like a… no leave it.

Isayama did my man Eren dirty, people call him a clown these days. Really never wanted to live through these moments ever again, but sigh. Eren was the villain, Eren was the hero, and everything happened according to his will. He suffered in between, a lot, heck sacrificed himself for his friends, but he has become the punching bag of this community, and that would never change.

At least people know Eren was the saviour, or they might not, but that matters not. Avengers won in the end and Eren lost… that’s the ending.. ending of this “of what once used to be” a great great series, because the ending actually didn’t live up to the expectations after all these years of build up. There could be many adjectives we could term the ending with, but let’s leave it at a positive note after all these years.

Mappa did the episode justice, atleast in terms of animating the things. Though you cannot correct what’s already wrong, so… anyways, I don’t know what additions they were talking about, because I didn’t see any. Avengers are messengers of peace, Levi living the retirement life and Mikasa… always waited for Eren.

Goodbye. 🕊/10.
@Softhenic03 the ending was great, its how it meant to end. I don't understand how people can say it was a bad ending? as eren said, he was slave to freedom, he was slave to his memory, he was going what had already happened as the attack titan.

This is it, this was the end of the most impactful anime series to come out so far.

This final episode was packed with so many different emotions, I don't even know where to start.
I must say that the animation for this last episode was out of this world, the fighting scenes were just a treat to watch. I'm so glad Attack on Titan was able to end with such a high quality episode. Everything about this episode was just iconic and epic.

The question "What's the meaning of life?" has been tackled in so many forms of media, and anime is no exception. And although it has been tackled for so long, even now, this question is still something that burdens every one of us. Since this theme was so prevelant in Attack on Titan, I'm glad we got to see it more detailed in this last episode, especially in the dialogue between Armin and Zeke. And the conclusion it's reached is rather beautiful: we live to enjoy those small little things in life, that could be seen as void of meaning or purpose, but give us joy, things that will vary from person to person, it could be watching the sunset, laying in bed hearing the rain fall, catching the summer breeze on the beach, or even listening that one song that we love, or watching an episode of our favorite anime. Life is worth living. As humans, we have the tendency to always focus on the bad aspects of life, and dismiss those small details, that we take from granted.
The realization of Zeke of this was truly touching, because Zeke, a person that never wanted to be born, ended up thanking is dad, since he was the reason he was able to play catch.

I think many of us, myself included, were expecting for Eren to die in the end, because there really wasn't any other way to end that. But why did I find it so shocking when he died? Was it because I always had hopes for an unrealistic and idealistic ending where everyone lives happily ever after?
Throughout all of the anime, Mikasa gave her best to protect Eren, since he was the love of her life. But in the end, she had to be the one to end the life she treasured so much. This paradox just made me so emotional. This trio of friends, Mikasa, Eren and Armin, were always together, by each other's side, with the objective of finding the world outside of the walls, an ideal world, all for themselves, but, in the end, this was only an unrealistic and innocent take on the world. With this Titan War, none of that would be possible. Their future was dark and shallow... So that's why Eren decided to find a way to end with all of that, using his Titan powers. However, no many how many times he tried, he would never find a way to protect Armin and Mikasa and be by their side, while also ending with this Titan war. using his Attack Titan powers, to navigate between different time lines, he would influence the choices in the past,to change the future, but the outcome was always of despair... That was, until he decided to sacrifice his life, with this timeline, where Eren would be this horrific villain that killed 80% of the world population, and would make his childhood friends Mikasa and Armin kill him, only this way this Titan power would be able to end, while saving Mikasa and Armin's lives. But Eren didn't want to die, Eren wanted to be by the side of Armin and Mikasa for his last 4 years of life... Even so, he proceeded with this timeline, because, in the end, there was no other way for this resolution, and all of those people that sacrificed themselves before in the series, they also didn't want to die, but they did it either way.
But seeing Armin and Mikasa having to put an end to the life of their friend, was so hard...
The moment it broke me was when Mikasa showed Armin Eren for a last time, for him to say his last goodbyes, and Armin just bursts out crying... That moment was when you truly realize that Eren is dead, that Mikasa and Armin were successful in their mission of saving 20% of the population, by killing their best friend, Eren. This scene is anime in it's best form.
Will never forget this passionate 1st and last kiss from Mikasa and Eren... Just beautiful writing and imagery. This anime was never about romance, but the connection between Eren and Mikasa was always shown in such a natural way, that this scene just hits you hard...

You would expect that the person Ymir was waiting for in these past 2000 years was Eren, but in reality, it was Mikasa. This because Mikasa was the person that Ymir wanted to be. I never expected this metaphor, and it's such an interesing twist to the way you see the story. Ymir was in love with King Fritz, and because of that, she never for once tried to stop him from all of the violence he was perpetuating, even before her death, she wasn't able to let her lover die, no matter how awful he was, and how much better it would be for the world for his war crimes to stop. On the other hand, Mikasa, who always loved Eren and protected him at all costs, was able to see how awful was Eren's action and how it would lead to so much pain, blood and despair, and was able to make the decision to kill him, for the better good, eventhough she was killing the love of her life. Mikasa was able to do what Ymir couldn't. And that's why Ymir needed Mikasa, to see that she should have made another choice, and that is shown when Mikasa is putting Ymir to her well deserved rest, where we get a painel where we see King Fritz dead by the lance, and Ymir with her children. It would not make Ymir a devil if she just didn't protect Fritz.

To end the anime, we get to the final message that Isayama wanted to portray: there's no happily ever after. Even after Eren's plan succeeds, and the Titan War was over, the world still had other disputed, there was still a lot of people suffering from the aftermath of the rumbling, and even the main cast was not even sure if they would reach Paradis Island alive. The cicle of violence in humanity will never stop, there will always be disputes, hunger, mistreatment, poverty, war... It's just a matter of time until it all restarts again. However, Eren's sacrifice wasn't in vain, because at least there was one less war going on, and was some hope for the future, at least for the time being, at least until the end of Mikasa and Armin's lives... And this is clear to see in the ending credits, where they show Paradis Island being developed for a long period of time, getting more and more modernized, and we see the character getting older and older, until they stop appearing... But after some time, a war develops, that destroys the entirety of the Island, showing once again that the peace achieved was not forever. There are no happily ever after, and this is a really realistic message from isayama, considering how we see in the present so many wars surging in different countries, when we thought we were getting closer to peace. Humanity will never reach total piece, but it's worth it to fight for those periods of peace, even if relatively small.
This message is further pushed with the final scene, where we see that the tree where Eren was sepulted has turned to a really big tree, with an entrance, with a similar structure to the tree Ymir entered so long ago. And we see a kid, wandering on the ruins of Paradis Island, and noticing the tree, and entering it, just like Ymir... The rest we can just imagine... I don't think this is a hint for a sequel, not at all, not only because I think isayama has self love and doesn't want to go through the hardships he went in maing this manga, and also the fact that he is married now, but mainly because that was not the vision Isayama had for the show, he had a clear message that wanted to deliver with this anime, and now his masterpiece has been completed. This final scene is once again showing how the cicle will restart once again, and we're going back to the beginning.

I don't understand why so many people are angry or frustrated with this ending, because I geniuely think this was the best way Attack on Titan could have ended, with a strong message and an impactful goodbye.
The scene where Mikasa breaks down crying when she was visiting Eren in his tomb had me shed tears down my face, but then we see a bird correcting the position of Mikasa's scarf, just like Eren did when he first gave it to her. That imagery is just beautiful, and it will be something that I will always remember.

I really enjoyed the ending used, thank you Linked Horizon for always delivering the best songs, and I can't wait to hear the opening for the episodes that will come out from these 2 big episodes, which the title "The Last Titan" makes so much more sense after watching this final episode.

When they were showing some characters that had died during the anime, I wasn't expecting them to show Sasha one last time. Thank you so much. She was my favorite character, and I'm still sad she didn't make it, and with so many characters that they could have shown in the end, I'm happy they decided to go with Sasha, because she was such a beloved character, and probably my favorite character in anime, so seeing her one last time was really important.
R.I.P Sasha, Eren, Hanje, and every other character that sacrificed their lives for the greater good.

Attack on Titan was my 1st ever anime. Sure, I had already watched a bit of Naruto and Dragon Ball, but Attack on Titan was the first series I watched while knowing what an anime was, and with the intention to watch an anime, to get to know the genre. This was in February 2018, 5 years ago. And I still remember the day I 1st watched this anime, I was shocked by the plot, and I was so interested in knowing how it would develop after such a strong start. I quickly watched the first 2 seasons (that were the only ones available at the time), and because of Attack on Titan, I started watching many other anime, because it left such a strong impact in me. Ever since then I have been following Attack on Titan, and with this being such an impactful anime for me, and this journey being for more than 5 years, it's only natural for this to become a bit of my life too. And I know many of us feel the same, especially those who were always here from the start, many of us grew up with Attack on Titan. So seeing it reaching its end is really bittersweet, it's satisfying to see the finale of this magnificent anime, and to appreciate the messages it conveyed, but it's also a bit sad to know that I will never get any other episode from Attack on Titan, that I will no more get that hype from watching one episode and having to wait one whole week for the next one, that I will never get that feeling of "what's going to happen next" in the Attack on Titan world. It has ended.
I know many people will say this anime is bad and whatever, mainly because this is really popular, but I don't think I'm lying when I say that this anime has to be one of the greatest and most impactful anime ever made. Just in here, in MAL, this anime is the one with the biggest amount of users. This anime was such a big revolution for the anime industry, who would ahev guessed it would become such a big anime? It's one of the biggest anime to date, and will always have marked the industry in its own way. The end of Attack on Titan is the end of an Era. And I know this anime will not be forgotten in time, it's impact is so big, that I'm sure from many years from now, new anime fans will keep checking Attack on Titan. In my opinion, Attack on Titan has to be that anime that every Anime fan has to watch, due to how well made it his in the way it delivers the plot, the animation the fight scenes, the soundtrack used, everything about this anime is iconic. Everyone knows what "Shinzou wo Sasageyo" is. That's the impact of the anime.

I might be biased, because Attack on Titan was my 1st anime ever, but for me, I find it really hard to imagine watching any other anime that I will enjoy more than Attack on Titan, this anime was made perfectly, and I love everything about it. I can't give any higher score than 10 here on MAL, so I'm giving Attack on Titan a 10/10, but in reality, this anime is much more than a 10. This anime gave me so many good moments, that I will never forget. I'm going to remember it for a long long time, or even for the rest of my life.

Thank you, Attack on Titan!

the end of an era for me. i started watching aot when i was in the middle of high school and i'm now 2 years post university graduation. so many spoilers along the way, but it didn't deter my interest. even when i was barely able to follow the storyline, i still kept watching. unfortunately a couple months ago, i had eren's head being cut off spoiled for me by some rando in a thread for an anime that has nothing to do with aot. was soooooooo close to being able to say i didn't spoil the ending. man, i couldn't have anything with this show. i've never seen so many spoilers for a single story in my entire life. i had no expectations for the ending,, there were some things i liked and some i didn't. my understanding is that the manga ending differs? so i know i have to read the manga for sure in the near future.

edit: seems the manga ending actually doesn't really differ that much? i'll still read the whole story over again - too many things that i've forgotten

All the manga readers said it was trash, however, I think this was actually damn near the best ending there could've possibly been for this show. From what I have seen, the people who strongly dislike this ending make weird interpretations of things, especially about Eren's character, which I think are wrong. This show was an amazing adventure and I expect it to be remembered as one of the GOATs.
