I see a lot of people arguing about aot's ending.
Many say its Too Complex for normies to understand.
Is that true or the ending was really polarizing ?

It wouldn't have become popular if it was too complex to understand.

it is a a little bit of complex, the ending its suits really good, but its bittersweet just people denial wont accept the truth....just go read the manga and have an opinion of yourself...this is what i did and then i realise how alot of things have meaning. :)

I won't say it is too simple or too complex. If someone understands the whole aot he will most probably understand the ending too.

Yes the ending was really complex. You would actually need to read 500 pages of essay and watch 4 hrs long video to understand it. (not satire)

Even though it was thematically perfect and was the most logical/sensible ending for the series, but still it will definitely seem complex, polarizing or 'bad' for many who weren't paying proper attention or are simply in denial (despite it being more than a year) while on the other hand, its not that hard to understand for someone who has been following the story right from the beginning and they would ultimately realise how amazing it is.

It only needs more fleshing out in the anime tbh due to the pacing and the rushed content. And, I am certain that Mappa is gonna deliver.

Everything in the internet is not true.......
some people like the ending whereas some don't......
for those who love it says that normie people hate it blah blah......
other than that this is basically understandable question for you since you are not a kindergarten student

Agreed man. It is a bit complex and is a bittersweet end or I must say, more like a tragic one.

That seemingly incomprehensible complexity comes from how it manages to be both good and bad simultaneously. The themes are well done, but the execution is just so underwhelming. You could have gotten the same meaning with a better final arc.

I appreciate this post so much. I thought the ending was brilliant - heartbreaking though it was, it was the ending that the events built up to. I hate seeing people say it's filled with "plot holes" when they just didn't understand some stuff, or when people say it was "bad" because they just didn't like what happened. People will enjoy the series they enjoy, but for AoT to have ended differently than it did would have compromised what the series was.

I like seeing people on this thread actually giving AoT the credit it deserves for having a very morally and thematically-fitting ending.

It's one thing for people to wish it happened differently, but a whole different thing for people to flame the series as a whole for not including a fairytale ending.

Good day to all!

to understand SnK ending you have to read the manga, read Lost Girls, watch Lost Girls, watch the anime and watch Akatsuki no Chinkonka music video, then tie all that shit together. Of course it's complex, you have to dig into it in order to understand it, simple minded people should be ignored because their opinions don't matter

Is that true or the ending was really polarizing ?

Ending, as it was presented in the Volume release, was technically fine. Sure, it might've felt underwhelming and had few flaws you wouldn't expect to appear in a chapter serving as an epilogue, but it was objectively fine; from technical point of view it was consistent with the whole plot as it had been seen in previous chapters and followed core themes dominating in this series. Decent version of specific jo-ha-kyuu ending.

Problems start to appear, as usual, when we enter the subjectivity ground. Especially among anime and manga fans who tend to overreact, sometimes in extreme way. Many fans started their adventure with manga from Attack on Titan. Since it was "baby's first manga" and it was really a good one, a lot of these fans didn't bother to even read about standards appearing in Japanese literature when it comes to modulation or narrative techniques. That's why they yelled about rushed ending, while it was typical jo-ha-kyuu ending, just enriched - as a concept - with some additional elements.

Heck, if that was the only problem, then it wouldn't be that bad. The thing is... many manga fans began to feel as elitists at some point. Y'know - "I'm smart by default, because I read Shingeki no Kyojin, not that shounen sh*t". With elitism comes edgy behavior and ignorance. They started forming their own headcanons and became obsessed with ships rising to the core elements of these headcanons, and in their ignorance they didn't have enough guts to even admit that they were no different than stereotypical devoted fans of certain shounen franchises, like My Hero Academia.

Once the ending dropped, shroud of elitism has dropped, and "elite animanga community" got revealed as simply bunch of clowns representing the worst traits of stereotypical anime and manga fans. I'm of course talking about edgy manga elitists who seethed for months over ending like crybabies and tended to insult others (whether we are talking about times before or after ch. 139's release).

Finally, an intellectual is here.

Fr man all they want is a happy fairy tail type ending where everyone survives and where their fav ships sail through.
