If you could change the way the anime ended by saving characters, would you?

Whenever an anime or a movie ends just like how Edgerunners ended, I see many people hating on the show or wishing it could have ended differently (mostly because they want a sequence). I believe not every story is supposed to end with the characters living happily ever after, even more when the plot is clearly not about people overcoming the world or defeating the forces of evil. Just because the conclusion is not joyous, doesn't mean it's a bad conclusion.

As a fan of Blade Runner I have come to associate the genre with bittersweet endings (even though that's not always the case) so I was quite prepared for it. In fact, I wouldn't want it any other way.

I see no reason why Rebecca had to die.
She should have survived instead of Falco.

I think this ending rounds of the show and any other ending would be.. well stupid because the ending is foreshadowed from the start and throughout the show, so any other ending would’ve made the point of the show pointless if that makes sense

as far as I know there is no happy ending for most in Night City so it was within expectations.

There is something memorable about the ending that I feel you would lose or dilute if you made it happier. Not all stories have a happy ending and with how the story went the ending makes sense. I feel like tragic storoes at least for me also have a more lasting impression on me than ones that are always happy. Feels more grounded and realistic, if you can say that about a fiction story.

It’s just puts accent on what the world of cyberpunk is and I think it needed to be the way it was to convey that harsh reality.

I was going into this thinking there would be a happy ending for David and Lucy. I am sad that it didn’t happen but the ending was great. Does anyone know if this will be getting a season 2? (I doubt it unless they introduce a new mc)

The ending wrapped up everyone's storyline nicely and I don't think they planned for a second season. At best they might do one about cyberpunk again but different cast but I doubt it. The whole point of this anime was to promote cyberpunk 2077. The success of this series will probably inspire more anime based of video games though. Especially since arcane was a hit too. Whether that's a good or bad thing remains to be seen.

What no? That would be stupid. The death scenes are their to complete their arc. All the themes the story have been biulding towards are completed through their deaths. That’s what makes it great. Why would u get rid of that

Note: The statement below is for PG-13 and above labeled shows...

Disney fans who are used to Happy endings should stop watching anime all together.

Anime is not Disney shows for children. Anime is a completely different medium. Authors will always choose a bad ending if it makes their story true to life. So Disney fans stop watching Anime altogether if you can't stomach seeing your favorite character die or getting a bad ending.

And in the end, we, people outside of Japan, don't have any right to complain about a Japanese show. Because Anime broadcast outside of Japan is just a by product. Anime studios only listen to Japanese audiences complains. So, stop being a kid and grow up...

Given the themes and the whole idea that David was abusing his role as "the special" and using the last of his meds, there was no way it would end happily. A happy ending would just be an asspull in this case. If they killed Adam Smasher, this series would be dead in the water. That would piss off so many fans of the game.

That being said, I was hoping Becca's death would be a little less just pure shock value, but other than that a tragic ending was pretty much what this series was building up to from the start. This isn't a crappy battle shonen where characters get revived at the last minute, this is a show about a desolate world where people are treated and discarded like objects.

Nah. She had it coming. Only Falco and Lucy weren't into indiscriminately killing people by the end so they get a pass.

Rebecca’s death felt so unnecessary and just for pure shock value. That’s the only thing I would change.

As much as I wanted David and Lucy to go to the moon together I wouldn't change the ending.
“All this time, I’ve lived in hope of telling you how sorry I am, I’ve fought armies, just to have this chance, but now, there’s nothing I can say.. That’s good enough.” – Lucy

the show is not about the characters is about how even if you are "special" night city is not a happy place. Everyone meets there sad there thats why Lucy wanted to leave the night city.

in this case, the happy lads are david, becca, maine's wife and adam smasher

though the way becca died was... kinda cruel

I'm just surprised the moustache guy survived. Very random.

Somebody had to escort Lucy from that place.
Options were:
- David. He was set to die from episode 2, not a real option.
- Becca. She would've stayed there without a question. Her death was bs, should have fought a few seconds, then get outgunned by Smasher.
- Lucy herself. Considering she wanted to go back, she would've died too.
- The moustache guy...I mean Falco, I totally remembered his name. The only real way to end it in space, like any other Trigger show.

That may be the worst ending to an anime series I've seen in years. That ending was indicative of one that they tried to please fans of some shitty old tabletop game rather than the actual characters that you know, not that any of the characters were that well written, but that ending was garbage and a huge slap in the face. Took a show that was maybe average down to garbage.
