| It is so clear that a ton of people never watched the movie, and aren't going to do it. this show's popularity has taken a hit after the movie. some people for some random reason that I never understood, disliked the recaps demon slayer did for the movie, but I firmly believe that they had no idea what they were talking about. I think made in abyss needed something like that too. I mean just look, made in abyss season 1 and classroom of the elite season 1 came out at the same season. season 1 of made in abyss, has 300,000 more members than classroom of the elite season 1, and is more positively received since unlike COTE manga readers don't complain about it. yet season 2 is less popular than the season 2 of that show. I really think they should have done it. |

| I think the reason they made that part a movie is because its so dark it wouldn't be allowed to air or at least thats what i heard. They probably didn't want to risk and thats why they didn't air that arc |

| the movie isn't even that long, if people bother look anything up online they would see that it's a sequel to the second and lead up to the first. seriously we aren't that many episodes into the 2nd season, anyone can freely catch up on the movie and then proceed to the 2nd season watching it weekly if they want to. or, like many fans do, they will wait until the whole season is released and then binge it. lots of people do that, the numbers will get boosted when they do if anyone wants to watch the movie, the re ap movies and the 3rd movie are on Hidive |

Yeah this arc is definitely harsher in my opinion… But I agree with you, I personally wouldn’t have been mad at doing a recap in tv format, then starting season 2 directly afterwards like Demon Slayer did. I also don’t get why people were mad over that, they even added more content to it and cleaned it up even more. There’s been so many threads of people wondering if they need to watch the movie, so I believe you’re definitely right. But sadly they didn’t and this wonderful series took a bit harsher of a popularity hit. |

I watched the movie, you probably did, but the truth of the matter is that many didn't. we saw how the demon slayer recaps helped the momentum of the series, and this would have been the exact same. in fact, this needed it way more, since it never came out in cinemas due to covid. |

| I fully understood why they re-released mugan train as a TV show it made sense on several levels and people just complained. Should they have re-released the Made in Abyss movie as a TV short? Sure they could have. Did they? No. But its not hard to watch a movie after season 1 and then go to season 2. Also season 1 might have filtered out a lot the people that had a lot of problems with its graphic content. |

It currently has the third highest number of members for the season, but it's score is abysmal. When people look at that, they're not looking at the number of people watching to determine if they should as well. They're looking at the score to see if the general reception of the show is good enough to warrant getting into the series. Score is far more indicative of a shows popularity than its members, and Made in Abyss S2 is the highest scored show of the season, so there's no reason to waste time doing something like recapping a movie that should've already been watched before Made in Abyss S2. If a bunch of doughy babies get into S2 without watching the movie, that's their problem and not worth making a whole thread about. Im honestly surprised the numbers for MiA arent higher, its a very recent modern classic. Most people only started watching S1 after the season was over because word spread its amazing. My guess is MiA has a more adult fanbase and those dont watch seasonals up to date as much. Lets see how the numbers for MiA and Cote develope over time. PS: the only potential problem I could see with the movie format is licensing issues. The movie only got its english release last year. And for some reason I cant comprehend kids these days seem to care about watching anime on officials streaming services and movies often get neglected by those |

| Partially it's an accessibility issue and partially it's a desirability issue. The third (and only relevant, non-recap) film came out at the beginning of 2020 in January of that year. I remember I was looking forward to it as it was only released then in Japan, but was slated to have a premiere in many U.S. theaters some months later in the spring. Including the Japanese language audio, English subtitled version. And including in a theater local to me which is right in the next town over. And it would have been my first anime film seen in theaters in a while. Then the global coronavirus pandemic hit and the movie theaters were all closed for a year or more. I personally haven't been back to the movie theaters ever since and I have no intention of doing so in the foreseeable future, if ever. I didn't see the film until sometime in 2021 online. The desirability factor is that some people consider films bonus content, just like special episodes released during different time slots or in different formats like OVA/ONA, and they're not willing to watch them if it's not for a series they're not extremely into and passionate about. |
